Have you ever wondered why we so seldom see God do great things? Perhaps you've heard or read about someone else's remarkable answer to their prayer? You ask yourself how that person had the faith to pray that boldly. Maybe you'll wonder in what makes that person's prayer so powerful and effective. If that's you, you're not alone. Luke 11 says that after the disciples watched Jesus praying in a certain place, they were stirred with the desire to pray like He did. They recognized the intimacy of His prayers to His Father and how vital it was to His life, how bold He was in what He asked for, which was so different from the morning and evening prayers to Pharisees and other religious leaders recited in the synagogues. It was how Jesus prayed and what Jesus prayed that impressed them to ask Him to teach them to pray. Jesus taught them what we know now as the Lord's prayer. He started off by saying, "Our Father in Heaven." The prayer goes on to talk about our daily bread and protection from evil and forgiving others, but it's significant that before we ask for our needs, before we ask for protection and guidance, God says, "I want you to acknowledge who you are. I want you to see yourself as my child." Meaning to pray bold begins with saying, "God, I know who I am. I belong to you. You're my Father. You created me. You love me. You care for me. You protect me. You favor me. If you don't know who you are, the rest of this prayer is not going to be effective because you know you're His child. You can ask in faith for your daily bread, your protection, your guidance. Because of who you are, you can stay in peace knowing that your Father will do far more than you can ask, think, or imagine. I've learned that how you pray determines what kind of life you will live. If you only pray small, ordinary, get by prayers, you'll live a small, ordinary, get by life. There's nothing wrong with those prayers, but the Scripture says God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or think. When you have the boldness to ask the Creator of the universe the Most High God, your Father in Heaven for big things, you will see the greatness of God's power and love. Breathe upon us and open our eyes to a fresh vision of the abundant life you've called us to. Help us to let go of all the negative and not settle for a small view of who you are. Help us to start thinking as you think, to think big, to think increased, to think breakthrough, to think victory. Thank you for your unlimited supply of everything we need.
