We have a very good friend of mine and a very funny comedian, Miss Kelly McFarland. She's been on TV many times. Her and I discuss TV often and I think you will enjoy our conversation. So please enjoy this week's episode with Kelly McFarland. Welcome to the TV Guines Councilor. I am very pleased to introduce my guest this week, Miss Kelly McFarland. And welcome to my home. Thank you. I've been to your home before. Yes, we've been here many times. We always have a good time. Yes, we always like having you. Some people, it's the first time they've been here and it's a little overwhelming claim. Well, if I can describe the home really quickly. Sure. Yeah, so you come in and you've been beautiful from the outside. It's very old home. What year was it? 1850. 1850. It sits up on like a baby hill. So not like a big hill, but not a pretentious hill. Yeah, it's like a bunny slope. Yeah, like a slope. And you walk up the steps and it's very charming and very cute. And then you come inside and it's filled with just too much stuff to look at. Yeah, it's a lot of thumbtacks. Yeah, like I'm used to it now. But yeah, like there's just so much to look at. And if it's Christmas, that's a different. It's like Santa took a dump in here. My dad watched our cat for us while we were in LA after Christmas. She's not mean. She's just unfriendly. And my dad, he emailed me and he goes, oh yeah, I gotta tell you guys. You're crazy. You're out of your mind. I've never seen so much Christmas stuff in my life. Whoa, what was wrong with you? Well, I hadn't been here since the trees had come down. Right. Trees, floral trees. How many trees? Well, if you count miniature trees, there's like 12. But there's probably, you know, maybe six full size trees. 12 Christmas trees, six are full size. So I hadn't been here since you guys took the trees down. And let's be honest, the house looks empty. It's a little bear. A house looks empty. Yeah. And there is a ton of stuff in this house. Yeah, yeah, it's when you put even more stuff in when you take some of it away. Yeah. It seems like, oh, what's gone? It's a lot bigger in here. Yeah, all the Christmas trees. Christmas trees. Well, oddly speaking of Christmas, you did pick a TV guy that starts on a holiday, but it's October 31st, 1987. So we're starting on Halloween night and Halloween on a Saturday. So that would have been pretty exciting. That would have been exciting. So you picked October 31st to November 6th, 1987. What drew you to this TV guy in the first place? On the cover is Alex P. Keaton, a family tie. Yes. And Courtney Cox. A family tie. A family tie. And of Cougar Town. Yes. And it's in the dark. And friends. And more, probably she's probably most well known for either misfits of science or the masters of the group. Yes, yes, yes. That's what most people probably know Courtney Cox from. So, but this is where we were first introduced to Courtney Cox, I believe, and you always know better than I do, but I'm learning from you. Don't say it. Let me see. Okay. Continue. This is part of our friendship. Yes. You need to, when I know stuff, mean to let me. Go for it. It's the Bruce Springsteen, Dancing in the Dark video. Yes. Did I get it right? Yes. That was the first thing people saw her in, but the same year was misfits of science. Okay. Which movie? What was the TV series? It was. Yes. So, misfits of science was Brendan Tartakoff's big attempt at getting NBC really high ratings. And it was about some misfits of science. They all had superpowers. She had. It was about misfits of science. All on the title, folks. Yeah. It was, it was a guy who could grow and shrink. There was a guy named Johnny Electric who had like electric cars. What year is that? 84. That was misfits of science. And Courtney Cox was a teenager who had sort of precognitive powers and also vague telekinesis. Okay. Yeah. It didn't last very long. They had a really cool satin jackets on the show though. Like because they were almost like a gang. This is ringing about with me. I don't know if I ever watched it in a 1984, but. Oh, the theme sounds great. Do you want to sing a little? It starts off sort of like jazzy. This guy's like, "Oh, science. Those misfits of science." And then this guitar kicks in. And it's like, everyone has like a really rocking. Like a very 1984 vibe to it. My own misfits of science. Science. Strike from the heart. It's like that kind of thing. Okay. Like a real Michael Bolton. He kind of a raspy voice 80s. I like it. It was a fun show. So that's what drew me though. Yeah. And all to the cover was because I remember that episode when they fell in love and they kissed. She's the psychology student. Yep. Yep. Yeah. They're at the, yeah. After Tracy Paul and had left. Exactly. He married in real life. Yes, he did. Still married today. He's still married today. Even though he's, he's, um, he had some ups and downs and now he's got, yeah, he has a show now and just got canceled. I haven't watched it. I haven't watched it either. I heard. I heard it wasn't great. I heard that as well. I was trying to be nice because he's out speaking. Well, and we know he listens. Spin City. He's clearly listening. He's a big listener. Spin City was an amazing show. Spin City was great. Until you got, uh, Charlie Sheen on it. Well, come on. Let's. And have a lock layer who I like, but not on Spin City. Yeah. Charlie Sheen might actually be listening to this podcast. He does listen to the podcast. I feel like he stays home a lot. Yeah. Yeah. No, he emails me frequently. He does. What does he say? He's like, Hey, it's Charlie. Uh, can you mention me in the podcast this week? So you filled your quota? Yeah. Yeah. So he'll send you drugs now and a booker. He does. Yeah. He sends me a drug filled hooker. A drug filled hooker. Like a banana. Like a slutty pinion. We met her with a stick and then she sleeps it off on the couch and then she. Perfect. It's just another day for her. Exactly. Uh, so okay. Saturday night Halloween. Also, I should mention Kelly is from Maine and coincidentally picked a Maine edition of TV Guide. So this is a fairly TV guide. You could have actually held in your hands at the time. It probably did. What did you go with at a clock? On Saturday. Yup. Um, this was challenging because I'm sure I'm not the only one who said this because you remember what show you watched. Back then. Right. So it's, you want to gravitate towards that. So I had to tell myself that I needed to really look at all the shows and make a decision on the Kelly that I am today. Um, but I still went with two, two, seven. Wow. So on Halloween, despite, I'll get into that special Halloween program in a moment, but you haven't two, two, seven. Normally that would have been my move. Yeah. 7987 NBC, you had two, two, seven facts alive. Amen. It was the night. Yeah. Um, this particular episode is pretty good. Mystery Buff Mary, played by Marla Gibbs. Hey, Mary. Hey, Mary becomes suspicious of her new knife throwing neighbor and cococks her own case against coca, coca, coca. Uh, I can't read sometimes. So it's a vaguely Halloween-ish episode. She thinks he's a murderer. I remember this one. Uh, it's pretty good, but I would have been torn. Midnight hour. Midnight hour. Oh, that's my, that was my backup. Amazing made-for-TV movie. Yes. Uh, LaFarr Burton's in it. Yeah. It's probably, um, uh, Shera Belafonte's finest role. Uh, it's a great movie. I, I still watch it every Halloween to this day. Are you being serious right now? I swear to you, I watch it in that hour. We'll do that next Halloween. Yes. But I did put in my notes here. Two, two, seven, but the midnight hour looks great. So that's where it gets tough for me, because back in 1987, we didn't have DVR. We didn't have- We had VCRs. We had VCRs, right? Where everything was wavy and you'd tape it. And, but you couldn't do two at once. I couldn't watch TV and tape the midnight hour. Well, you'd have to have a really fancy VCR with a built-in tuner, which, I mean, who could afford that? We could, we rented them. They came in a big suitcase. Yep. And, yeah. Looks like nuclear launch codes. Totally. Yep. And you'd rent them overnight. They were so heavy and big and boxy, but- They made you a hand-cuffed them to your wrist. Yeah, pretty much. Like, you had to leave something, right? Didn't you have to leave, like, a credit card or a license? Yeah. So, I probably would have gone with the midnight hour, but if I didn't and I went with two, two, seven, that forces me into the half hours. That forces you into half hours. You can't tune into the midnight hour at eight thirty. You missed it. You don't know what's going on. I also should mention that, although I wouldn't have watched this because I could watch whenever I wanted, but on USA Saturday Night Mares, which was their horror movie show, Saturday Night, being Halloween, they showed Motel Hell, which was a great movie. And the tagline to Motel Hell was, "There's all kinds of critters in these fritters." It was about Motel- That sounds delicious. And farmer Vincent's fritters. And John Ratzenberger is in that movie of Cheers fame. He plays a punk rocker with a beard. What, and this is 1987? Was that an original movie for you on that? This is a 1980 movie. No, it's from 1980. It was there. I was airing it in second run. But I think my move would have been the midnight hour I loved. It originally came out in '85, so they used to rerun it every year. MTV, Halloween costume party, with Graham Chapman, Penn and Teller, and Fiona. You would have picked that. Absolutely would have picked that. Are you serious? The reason I would have picked that was because I'm a huge MTV fan. Love Penn and Teller. And also, it would have been a one-time only thing. Okay, fair enough. So, mid-night hour I'd seen before, I knew I could watch it again, Motel, how I could rent. That was never going to air again, so I would have watched the MTV Halloween special. I would have, but what would you watch today? Today? I'd probably watch the MTV Halloween special, just because it would be something I would have the least access to. I don't own that. I own Motel Hell. I own midnight hour, and I own all of teachers. You have a lot of options. I have access to Ken Reid and all of his toys. I can text Ken Reid at any point in time and say, "Hey, do you have that movie starring Sheila E from 1980 Blah Blah?" And he'll be like, "Yes, I have it on DVD or VHS, which do you prefer?" Yeah, I am talking about Crush Groove. I don't even know what to say right now. I'm going to have more coffee, because that's crazy that you even knew that. I knew there was a movie about Sheila E. But you knew the name. See, this is what I'm talking about. She does rock, rock, holly rock. I saw Crush Groove with my uncle in a theatre called Pie Alley in downtown Boston. Okay. And it's normally-- Pie Alley? Yeah, Pie Alley is still there. I don't know why it was called. For its bakeries or its hookers? Pie. Not P-I-E. Oh. Yeah, there weren't so many pie jobs. So for math. Yes. Math Alley. Second Hooker time we've talked about too. Tells what a lot of hookers. This might be Hooker heavy. Hooker heavy. Hooker heavy. And so we were seeing this movie, and Crush Groove is a very light comedy. Yeah. The fat boys have a great all-you-can-eat buffet scene in it. And a gang fight broke out in the theatre, and this big brawl, and we had to leave, and I never saw the ending of Crush Groove. We were told about 10 years later, so in my five-year-old mind, in the decade in between, I was like, "This is a really violent gang movie." Oh, because you saw an actual gang fight. Yeah, so I really confused it with sort of, like, colors. Isn't this the story of your life, though? Pretty much. And I don't want to start interviewing you, although that happens when we talk all the time. That does happen, yes, sure. But even when there isn't a podcast going, I tend to interview you. That's true. But that's like your whole life, though, that something-- A gang fight breaks out? Well, or something to the equivalent that, like, is scarring to the normal person, but to you, you're desensitized. Yeah, pretty much. Like, yeah, you're like, "Oh, and then a gang fight broke out, and someone got stabbed." I built up some mental scar tissue. Yeah, you're like, "But no biggie. I just was bummed I missed the end of this movie." No big deal, though. Yeah, so I had to watch Crush Groove on video later. Crush Groove. Body moving. Yeah, I would have gone with the midnight hour, probably still even today. It looks good. It's a good move. It's a good move. Now that I know you own it, we should watch it together. Yeah, well, we'll watch it. I have two versions. One is an original broadcast with commercials, and the other is-- You know what? I love the commercials. It's my favorite. But if I had gone with 227, it forces me into the half hours, which I would have done. So 30. Everything's relative. Everything's relative, really. I don't know this show. I think that's kind of what drew me to it. I was like, "Oh, I guess I'd watch it." It's not a very well-loved show. It was Jason Alexander's first sitcom. And I do like him. I think he's the reason why I would keep that. Yeah, he was mostly known at the time for commercials. He was in a very famous, not very famous, I remember it, commercial for these deli chips. And so the commercial was him, and he goes, "Hey, grab your bag of chips and hold your chip up to the TV. Is it as big as this one?" Oh, I remember that. Yeah, that was Jason Alexander. And so he was mostly known for that. He was also in a horror movie called The Burning from 1982, where he was a camper with a full head of hair. And in 1989, he was in the movie Jacob's Ladder, which is a very terrifying movie. Yeah, that's a great movie. This was his first sitcom, at least then I'm aware of, called Everything's Relative. It did not last for him. I was gonna say, how many seasons did it last? It was not even a full season. So this particular episode is Scott and Julian have to do some quick thinking when two hookers carry the dead body of their Uncle Jack into his own anniversary party. You're okay, me too hookers. It's about two hookers. This is getting a little bit more now. You know what? I think that maybe I had hookers on the brain because I read this and was like, "Oh, hookers on the brain is what they used to call syphilis back in the 1890s." Are you serious? No, I made that. But that would be a great punk rock band. Hookers on the brain. Hookers on the brain. Yes. So you would have gone with that. Now, I would have gone with the Fox show, Women in Prison, which was a sitcom about Women in Prison. It was not a great show. But how very early Fox network can you get a show about Women in Prison? This particular episode, Vicki's husband decides he wants her back and rebrides a judge to get her out. Meanwhile, Don runs a follow of the biggest and meanest prisoner. Is that a 30 minute show? 30 minute show. sitcom. Very, like, ahead of it. Time. Orange is the new black. Yes. Real big right now. Yeah. Women in Prison as a sitcom, a comedy, you say? Yes. Yes. Yeah. That didn't appeal to me at all. Yeah. I would have watched it, but I wouldn't have liked it. Okay. Nine o'clock. What do you got? Golden Girls, obviously. That is the classic. I would normally go with Golden Girls. This is a pretty good episode. So, vaguely Halloween-ish in overtones, worried about the threat of a nuclear war, Rose pens a letter to Soviet leader Gorbachev and receives an invitation to Moscow. That is a pretty good one. I mean, it would. They think she's a child. Yes. Yes. Which thing? She is in many ways. She is in many ways. But that episode is amazing. I feel like I just saw it recently, because Golden Girls, you can find it similar to like S.V.U. Yes. On order S.V.U. You can find it. It's basically a Golden Girls network. Like Golden Girls, S.V.U. or two and a half men, you can find at any point in time on the television. Right. Great show. Definitely would have gone with that. However, at this time was the short-lived show Legwork, which was a crime drama, which I really enjoyed with Margaret Collin. And in this episode, to pick up fast bucks, Claire takes a job in a posh law firm, where her first case involves the estate of a rich old woman and her vulture-like heirs. Frances McDermott was in this episode. It was a cool show. It didn't last nearly as long as it should have. And Maureen O'Sullivan was a guest star in this episode, who I really liked. And I think it was probably less than 10 episodes. It was an hour-long sort of moonlighting-ish drama. Okay. But Golden Girls is definitely a classic standby. And then at 9.30, what do you get? I was forced to, you know, I'm in the half-hours now, forced new adventures of Beanz Baxter, which is a great show. No, I don't know this. I don't know this show. I don't remember this show. Okay. It's because on Saturday nights in '87, I was out doing stuff. Okay. I'd like to hope that that's what- We'd all like to hope that- We'd all like to hope I had plans every Saturday night in 1987. However, I don't know. I'd feel like- It was- So it was an early Fox show? If you can jar my memory here. It was created by Savage Steve Holland, who did one crazy summer. Okay. Yeah, yeah. My $2. Yeah. Barry Crimmons was in the show. Okay. Rick Overton. There was a lot of stand-up comedians in this show. And it was about a kid whose dad was a famous spy, and his dad goes missing, so he takes over the role of the spy. It was like a double life he was leading. This is an excellent episode. You love this show. Your whole face lit up when I said that. Oh, and your adventures of Beanz Baxter was one of my favorites. Barry Sparkly. Yes. Do you own this as well? Oh, yeah. It took me years to find this show. This was one of my holy grails. I literally just got this show this year. I've been looking for it for 25 years. Is it on DVD? I have it on DVD. I can burn some tapes. It's not on official release DVD now. No. It's not a very well-remembered, very loved show. Who'd you buy it from? I didn't buy it. I traded. So, one of my lifelong hobbies is to trade. I have to time out. I don't know if you've talked about this yet, so the people, I want them to get to know you, can find other with love, I say this term. Weirdos. Correct. Yeah. Ken's one of my favorite weirdos. You're one of my favorite weirdos. Oh, thank you. And your wife, too. She's a little bit, got to touch the weirdo. And I love it. I love you guys. You find other odd people. Odd darlings. Yes. Yes. Another great band name. Yes. Odd darlings. And you trade stuff with them. Yeah. So, what we do is we, you go to flea markets or whatever and you find VHS tapes that people, or beta tapes that people taped off television. You look on the tapes, see if there's broadcasts of television on them and then we convert them to DVD and we trade them with each other. So, we have just huge archives of old television. You're saying it to me. Like it's just normal. Why? This is normal to you, Kelly. Yeah, I probably have 10,000 DVDs of hours and hours of old television commercials and Beanz Baxter is one of the ones I've ever shared. It's one of my favorite things about you. This episode is great. It's a Halloween episode on Halloween on Fox, a deadly pumpkin unleashed by Mr. Sue and the evil pumpkin princess played by kitten Natavidad, who was a '60s jiggle actress. She was in a lot of Russ Myers and we actually very well endowed, makes Halloween miserable for Beanz and friends. Excellent. Excellent. And Eleanor Donahue played his mother, who played the mother on Get a Life later. I think she was Kitty on a family affair, if you remember incorrectly. But a great show. Really weird. Okay. It was similar to, if you liked Better Off Dead, if you liked one crazy summer, it was very similar. So, are we going to have, we'll have that one afternoon. We're going to do that. Yeah, we're going to do a Beanz Baxter thing. Yeah, let's do that. Now, that's the end of Saturday night, but I do want to mention that at 10 o'clock, it was a Halloween treat on HBO that Joe Piscopo, HBO Comedy Hour, and it says, "The man of a thousand characters cuts loose on HBO for one outrageous out-of-control hour. Don't miss this hilarious Halloween treat." Now, that to me, I saw that as well, and I was like, that to me is, we don't see that anymore. Well, yeah, it's awful, but we don't see that anymore that there'd be like, it's a half a page in the TV guide of a stand-up hour, so that's great to me that stand-up was loved, remember? But sadly, it was Joe Piscopo. Sadly, we prank called Joe Piscopo when I was a teenager. I don't even know what to say to that, except for "Tell Me More." So, I forget where we got his number from, and this is pretty me, I feel a little bit bad about it at this point. Okay. Just let it all out right now. This is probably 1996, and I remember, I called him up, we have it on tape somewhere. If I can find it, maybe I'll attach it to the end of this podcast, but we called him up and he answered the phone and he said, "Mr. Piscopo," and he went, "Yes." And I went, "This is the Los Angeles County Corners Office, we have your career." It's pretty dead. Oh my God. You're like, "You're gonna identify it." And he was like, "You son of a bitch!" And he got really angry. Of course he was mad. Yeah, understandable, understandable. How do you feel about that choice in life? In hindsight, it's funny, but probably a bit cruel. Where is he today? I think he's running for like, Republican office in New Jersey or something. He's like, "Some politician guy." Yeah. Yeah. He seems like an asshole. It's not on my radar, I'm not gonna lie. If you were really ingrained in the day-to-day activity of Joe Piscopo, I'd be concerned. Yeah. If I could give you a lowdown right now and you'd be like, "I'm we need to talk." You're like, "Let me check my Joe Piscopo app, this will tell me exactly where he is." Oh, he's in the shower. Yeah. Again. Sunday night we move on now. Yes. November 1st, All Saints Day, 8 p.m. What do you go with? Family ties. I figured you would. Yeah. It's the cover model of the episode and the reason that you went here. I know. Family ties, this is a great episode, is Alex in Security Surfaces when Lauren, who is Courtney Cox, receives a dinner invitation from her visiting ex-boyfriend, a Wall Street banker, with a slick sports car and a desire to rekindle their relationship. And her boyfriend, ex-boyfriend is probably like Campbell Scott. If you remember, it was very, very popular at the time. Oh, dying young. Yes. Remember that movie? Yeah. I think this is the last thing I remember seeing him in. Dying young with Julia Roberts is when I fell in love with him and it's a tough movie. It's a tear-jerker. I saw it on a date with someone. Ooh, first date? Yeah. It was the first date. That's not a good first date. Yeah. Yeah. And if you don't, you're like, "What's why are you a monster?" Right. And then on the way home, I drove for some reason. I don't know why. I know. Strange. I think I knew I had met him a few times, but we went to this movie. I cried because it's so freaking sad. It's called dying young. Right. Right. And Julia Roberts is like quirky, but like kind of cool. It's California too, right there. Yeah. We played on Hooker and Pretty Woman. She just mentioned it. Just a hooker. Lil just come back to that. And then we got in the car to leave the movie theater and I'm still emotional over it. I thought I'm trying to hold back and I turned the car on and I was, I was and still would be, I guess. Yeah. A huge REM fan. Okay. So I get in the car and the REM is playing and I'm like, it might as well have been nice. Geez. That sounds like, did you go on a second date? No. Yeah. I would be surprised if you did. The worst first date movies I saw was Wishmaster, which was a horror movie about an evil genie. That's a first movie date. That was the first date. Your pick or hers. That was my pick. Yeah. Yeah. We didn't have a second date. Okay. And the other first date was Boogie Nights. Oh, fun. That was the first movie date. Did you marry her? No. No. We did date in high school, which was a bad idea. Boogie Nights. Yeah. That was awkward. I love that movie though. It's a good movie, but when you're 17, you probably don't want to see them. And of course, Phillips, you don't want to see a movie about pornography with a full frontal prosthetic penis. Of a huge penis, by the way. Yeah. That's the last thing that you see when you, when you know where you're. So you want to get some ice cream. Yeah. Good. Yeah. That's awkward. So that's a good episode of Family Ties. Yeah. The Campbell Scott. I always love Michael Gross. I will watch him in anything. I love him. He's great and tremors. 8.30. What do you go with? My two dads. However, married with children is on as well. So I'm very conflicted. This would have been one of those times where I'd be like, Family Ties is coming to an end. Right. And I'd be like, oh, do I want to watch my two dads? Do I want to watch married with children? So the adult Kelly that I am today would watch married with children. Okay. See, I would have been the opposite. Really? So I watched my average children at the time, but now on hindsight, I don't like it. And my two dads, I still kind of enjoy. I think it didn't wear out. It's welcome. No, I mean, I enjoyed that show. I don't know any of the people who are on that show. I don't know their, know them, my names. It was a spin-off of Night Court. Right. So Florence Stanley was in it. She played Judge Wilbur. Yep. Who was great. It also had Dick Buttkiss in it, which was great. And it was the first sitcom with Paul Reiser. And Greg Evigan, who was also quite hard to rob. It was also in the small genre of TV shows where the theme is sung by a main character in the show because Greg Evigan sang. Oh, yeah. You can count on me. What happened to him? Where's he now? He still acts, I think. And I think his daughter is a pretty hot, young actress that's in that people know from things. But he still pops up every now and then. And the little girl. Stacey Keach. Yeah, where's she? I know. I'm Stacey Keenan. I always get Stacey Keach and Stacey Keenan. I didn't know. Stacey Keach is a man who played Mike Hammer. He's a moustached man's man. Oh. Stacey Keach. Yeah. Stacey Keenan is the actor from My Two Dads. She was in step by step for many years of the 1990s. I don't know if she has popped up in a while, but I haven't seen her in many years. She's probably doing financially well after those shows. She's probably like a mortgage broker. Maybe. She was in a real, I've mentioned this movie on the podcast forward. She was in a movie called Lisa, where she played a teenager. Speaking of prank phone calls. Yes. Who was prank phone calling guys being all like, "Ooh, I'm all into you." And she gets this guy who tries to murder her. Like he stalks her. It's like early catfishing. Yes, yes. That's a good movie. It's an underrated movie. People should watch. So you went with them with children. You got about step by step. Now, at eight o'clock, I was a huge family ties fan, but I will have to say, just to backtrack a little bit here, I would have gone with Spencer for hire. I love the show. I was torn. I like Spencer for hire. And ABC had a really weird Sunday night, too, for that. We could probably mention it a minute because I'm guessing I know what you picked at nine o'clock. But it was Spencer for hire. And the nine o'clock show, which you probably picked, was... Dolly? Dolly. Yeah. What a weird night of television. Yeah. The movie about a private cop and Boston murdering everybody. And then Dolly Parton's variety show. So think about this, too. Nine o'clock is Sunday night, so everybody's home. And depressed. And depressed because they've got the Sunday, you know, Sunday ruins your Monday. Monday ruins your Sunday. Both. Right. So kids got school in the morning. So I feel like this was, and maybe I'm overthinking, but the, this was Dolly's a transitional show. Yeah. Because it's in segments. So it's easing you into sleep. It's easing you into like putting your kids to bed. So you're thinking as a television executive, right? Yes, I am. Because that's what I do. Because Dolly was, so there was, she would come out at the beginning of the show and do her on Cute Dolly thing, yep, and sing and sing a song. And then in the middle of the show, there was sort of a dramatic sitcom where she played like a waitress and a diner. And then the, she ended every show with a Q&A with the audience, which is always pretty entertaining. But I think it's a transitional show, like you could leave it on and still be putting your kids to bed. Oh, absolutely. It's a good background show. Yeah. Yeah, great. Tracy Allman's also on it. Tracy Allman is on. I did watch Tracy Allman, even though she scared me a little bit. Why? She was just, she seems crazy. Yeah, I'm laughing because you just said that. Yeah. Call people. I can see where you would say that. And I enjoy her music at this time. Okay. I had her album prior to her getting the show. I like characters. Okay. So as you know, in my standup, I do a lot of characters. Yeah. And she's the character person. She's the character person. So I was watching Tracy Allman back then. I didn't watch Dolly back then. Right. But now you'd watch that. But now I would just watch Dolly because I'd watched Dolly. Right. Let me read you the Dolly episode, just so you can see what you were saying. Patti LaBelle and Dolly share a song and taste in fashion and matching gowns. The flying Karamazov brothers flip over Dolly as they join her in Great Balls of Fire. And Christine Ebersall drops by Dixie's place. Oh my gosh. Christine Ebersall's dropped off the face of the earth. I think she has a lot of Broadway. I don't even know what she looks like in my head. I'm trying to picture her. She's a blonde lady. She was on SNL during the non-Lorne Michaels years and was fired. She was on the first season of Valerie and then was fired and replaced by Mrs. Poole. Patti Poole. Yes. And then she had her own show where she played a nurse. And it was called Rachel Gunn RN. And it is terrible. Okay. It was a Fox show. And it also had the voice of animated Batman who is comedian Selena Copic's cousin. Kevin Blanking on his last name. But anyway, so she's kind of disappeared since then. I think she does a lot of musical theater, but she was on that Dolly episode. Tracy Allman that night in sketches, which seems redundant for him to even mention that it was in sketches, a hockey player falls for the arena organist. A singing telegram arrives at the wrong place. A research scientist regrets bringing her orangutan from the wilds to New York City. Yeah. Yeah. I'm scared. There's a monkey. There's a monkey. There's an orangutan in that. I'm on board for that. 930. What do you got? Easy peasy mama's family. Oh, Kelly. I'm so sorry. Mm hmm. My least favorite sitcom of all time. If someone said to me. Don't like Vicki Lawrence. I don't like Vicki Lawrence. Why? Why? I don't like that. She did that tonight that the lights went out in Georgia. Yeah. Which I hate. I didn't like the Carol Burnett show. I know. I know. That's interesting. I didn't know that about you. Yeah. Most people are surprised to hear that I didn't like Carol Burnett. Two sketch comedy shows that are beloved that I just despise are Laughin' and Carol Burnett. So wait a minute. So you don't like Tim Conway. You don't like Harvey Kormat. I like Tim Conway. Tim Conway from Lin Mass. Yeah. I like Tim Conway. But you know what I really hate is people making each other laugh in sketches. It really bothers me. Mm hmm. So let's go down even further. Yeah. So you don't like Jimmy Fallon. I really dislike Jimmy Fallon. Oh my gosh. So this is like a thing. I was a huge SNL fan my whole life and sort of in the late 90s when we got to the Horatians. Yeah yeah. Jimmy Fallon era I completely checked out. Because they make each other laugh. I was like this is unprofessional and bullshit and if I was the writer of this I'd be very angry. Well I guess I can understand that. It does annoy me as well. It might be good people. I recognize that people enjoy them and there's a secondary population that likes that sort of thing but it really bothers me. Is it because it happened so frequently? Like if it's- It shouldn't happen at all. Have you ever been in a sketch though where you've been like I am going to bust out laughing right now? Yes and I don't do it. Because you- It takes a lot of self control. The sketch is not for you it's for the audience. I agree with what you're saying but I have been in some sketches where I haven't busted out laughing but it's taking everything I have. Well here's the thing you know SNL had a little bit more of an excuse because it was a live show. Right. But you know I've done things where people start laughing. I mean we've had to stop this podcast seven times already to catch our breath. I hope it's very hilarious. You edited it very well so you didn't know. Right. But you know hey Carol Burnett took all the fun out. Cut that out. Cut it out of the episode. I know but anyway that's a whole mama's family. It was a southern show which I had a real problem with. Yeah I don't enjoy the south now. But you were from Maine which some people call the south of the north. They do say that. So maybe you felt a kinship to mama's family. Well you know that I mean now that we're in the conversation I think that I was driven to mama's family because it's the only thing on if I'm in the half hour. Well no I see I think you could have gone with duet which was a Fox show which was pretty funny and it had Jack Lemon's son in it. I mean. You know people like him. Chris Lemon. It's very famous. Chris Lemon. Yeah. But the move I would have gone with was MTV's Week in Rock. Okay that's fair. Yeah. Yeah. Oh Donna Reed was on. Donna Reed was on Nickelodeon but Donna Reed's always on Nickelodeon. Pretty much. Even today. Yeah. I'm going to have to agree to disagree Monday and as I always mention is the saddest night of the week. And really. You've gone to school. You've gone to work. You need something to take you away. What do you pick? Eight o'clock Monday. I'm going to I'm going to lock it in with the movie and I'm going to go with echoes in the darkness. Echoes in the darkness. Not a very famous movie. No. I made for TV movie. And the reason why I think I chose it was because it was advertised several times in the TV guide. They were really pushing it. They were really pushing it. And there's like you said there's it's Monday night. I might as well just watch a two hour movie and call it a day and there really wasn't anything else on that I. Well you had an elf. You had. Yeah. I hate elf. I'm like the only person I think I'm a planet. No. A lot of people hate elf. I hate it. He didn't. He looked like a puppet. So it was really hard to embrace the character. Well that's interesting. So the reason you hated elf was that it was unrealistic. Yeah. That was your problem. You know what? And he ate cats. And I didn't like that. You didn't like that. He ate cats. No. And I also didn't like the fact that Willie was letting him live in his house yet they hated each other. Or he loved Willie but Willie hated set for me. Willie. Willie creeped me out. He was on misfits of science. Oh okay. He was always like elf. Yeah. And I just really don't appreciate you eating our cats. Elf. I understand my wife is more attractive than I should probably have. But you don't need to point it out. Yeah. He was in the dark. Whynie. He was whynie. Echo's in the dark is a made for TV movie starring Peter Coyote, Gary Cole, treat Williams, Peter Boyle. Treat Williams. Robert Loja. He's a treat Williams started a movie with Joe Piscopo called Dead Heat where they played zombie cops in 1987. Yeah. That Joe Piscopo he just keeps coming out. Hookers and Joe Piscopo. Hookers and Joe Piscopo. That's the theme for tonight. But here's the plot of this movie. The Pennsylvania State Police and the FBI were really joined forces in a massive homicide investigation, which leads to the courtroom and the conclusion of Echo's in the dark, a 1987 TV movie, also such stalker chanting. Yeah, I love stalker chanting. It was a CBS World Premiere mini series. So the one problem is you would have missed the first half. Yeah, I know. But I feel like it would have been easy to follow. I'm not going to. Yeah. I would agree. I would agree. But also, Oh God, you devil. Yeah. Oh God, you devil was on. I would go on a movie as well that night on TV 56 W O V I. And TV 51 Portland. We had the breakfast club. Oh, I do love the breakfast club, but I've seen it so many times during main zone, Judge Nelson. Mm. Uh, so cute. John Nelson. I thought he's a little weird looking. Oh, I like him. See, I like he's not your type of eye for me. I like guys who have a little something to know. I like a little something. You like someone who's abused at home? No, I like someone with a bird with cigarettes. If you're a bird with cigarettes, please send me an email like Kelly at Kelly McFarland doc on you. No, I like. You can go see dying young together. I'm attracted to guys that, um, yes, I'm attracted to you guys. Little bad boy edge. No. Um, I like something jacked up on their face. Oh, you like. I don't like perfect symmetry on a face. You want a little character, like John Nelson's nose is got huge, like you could, it looks like you can crawl it. It's like a wild stallion. Yes. Yes. Yeah. So I like that, or I like, you know, I like a tooth out of whack, like a snaggle tooth. So if you're a snaggle tooth, young man with huge nostrils. Yes. Kelly will take you to go see dying. You should call me. She'll drive. We'll listen to R.M. and cry each other's arms. Everybody. Ice cream and chipco. Just park and traffic and sit on the roof. Also Car 54 R.U. was on a good move. So that's, we both got on the movies that night. I will mention that ESPN at nine 30 showed surfing, which although I've never surfed, I love surfing, I'm a bit obsessed with it and I would always watch it on TV and I don't know why. Have you ever surf? I've never surfed. My second bathroom, your second bathroom downstairs is all like Hawaii. It's the why bathroom. Yeah. It's the why bathroom. It's the why bathroom. Grass on the floor. I love like California surf and beach culture. I love surf music. I've never been surfing. It makes no sense whatsoever. So is it the surfing or is it the culture that you like? I don't even know. I think I just like back to the beach. Yeah. I think I'm just a big fan of the movie back to the beach and it's just, it's broken my mind for my whole life. I don't blame you. It's pretty fun. Tuesday night. Tuesday night. Okay. So I went with who's the boss at eight. Fair enough. But you weren't a fan of it. I felt like this, a couple of these nights at television were really boring. So I've noticed this is true of a lot of people. Everyone that watched who's the boss was just like nothing else was on. Nothing else was on. There was no one who's like, who's the boss? My favorite show. No. I hated the kids on who's the boss. I don't like to listen to Milano, but I probably had a different perspective than you did. But you were a teenager and I just, I just didn't like the kid. I didn't like the dynamic with the kids. And I didn't. Angela. Angela. Whoa. Yeah. It was too much. I liked the mom. I liked Angela's mom. Oh, Katherine Helmont. Yeah. Everybody loved her. She had a failed pilot spin off called Mona. Mona. Yeah. And she was on soap. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, she's always great. She's great. This particular episode, Parents Association President Tony Danza already unrealistic. Totally. Camps out on a billboard as a fundraising stunt. But it turns into a slumber party when Angela gets stuck up there with him. I remember this episode. It's terrible, but it does have James Karen in it and a cameo role who is in return living dead and is a favorite actor of mine. What a terrible episode, but to be honest with you, I would have watched it as well. You know, I think that even at a young age, I knew what that this was sexual tension and it made me crazy. It should have made you uncomfortable. It made me uncomfortable and it made me annoyed. I'd be like, God, I just don't think I just do it already. I don't even think at that age, I knew what those words really meant. But I was like, even I as a young Kelly with a side ponytail was like, God, I wish they just do it. Get a room. Geez. I don't know what you'll do in there, but yeah, weirdly also in 56, it was John Hughes week. So they were showing 16 candles that night. Again, another one of my favorites, but I've seen a zillion times recently visited the high school from 16 candles. John Marshall. Yes. Did you walk up to the doors with your hand in your wife's pocket, Jean's pocket in hers and yours, wearing similar pink sweaters and similar bracelets so that you couldn't tell who was who. Indeed I did. And then I made an offensive Asian racial stereotype. Yeah. What's happening? Hot socks. Exactly. And then they immediately escorted you off of the school grounds. Yeah. Well, the guy hit a gong first. Yeah. Then he hit me on the school ground. Yeah. 830. Really only one move here. Growing pains. No, it's growing pains. Again, 1987 was, I think, their best season of season three. Yeah. Season three and four were fantastic. It was just the 10 of us spin off year. This episode's fantastic. It's a burglary at the Seaver home on Maggie's birthday, has the family behaving strangely to cover anxieties over losing the possessions they value most. And this just had a message this episode. It was saying, you know, we're not our things, which clearly got to me, which clearly got to me. Right. It was the second time in two seasons they were burgled on season two in the Christmas episode. They took in a homeless young gal. Yes, yes, yes, yes. They told her her name was Nancy Reagan and she stole all the presents. Okay. Can I just stop for a second? So she said her name was Nancy Reagan and they didn't think that was the situation. They did. They did. She was just kind of like, I'm not telling you my real name. It's Nancy Reagan. Yeah. Call me Nancy Reagan. Yeah. Is this in season three? Did they have the little girl yet with the red curly hair? Oh, no. Not yet. She was an infant in season four and then season five, they advanced her age to five. Yeah. She's also in the Jean Claude Van Dam movie Lionheart. She's in a lot of things now. She was just in the movie, well, not a movie. I watched recently The Killing. Okay. I've been traveling a lot. So I downloaded it on seasons one, two and three on my Kindle and I've been watching it on the plane and she's in season one and two. She's gonna be in the late 20s. She's a good little actress. Yeah. Yeah. And The Killing, by the way, if you like crime stuff. It's an amazing show. All right. I don't understand why it got canceled and then they are releasing on Netflix just like six. The unreleased episodes. Yeah. Like, well, an unreleased season which only has six episodes but I'm really excited about it. Nice. Yeah. So if that was on in that TV God, I would have watched it every night. But instead we go with growing pains. Yeah. Nine o'clock speaking of crime shows, you get quite a few crime choices here. What did you go with? I think there's only one choice. I would agree. And I went with moonlighting. Moonlighting. Yeah. Classic show. Yes. Her work where this woman said her favorite music was jazz and then her favorite jazz singer was Al Giro and they said, didn't he sing the theme of moonlighting and she denied it? She was like, nope. He absolutely didn't. And I was like, yes, he did. Did you have Google during this time? Because you could just Google it. No. I'm against the Google proof. Oh, because you trust your, you trust it. I trust it. There are. And there are things in the pockets. I'm sure people listen where I forget the last name or I can't think of a movie or I misremember. And they're probably like me when I was in the pockets and I'm like, just yelling what it is. Right. But I don't want to look it up. And you know, hey, that's how my brain works. Yeah. Just so everybody knows at home, you don't, it's not like you have like your iPad out and your fact checking. No. She's all just coming from you. We're sending your drinking coffee. Right. With a pumpkin candle. Right. We get a pumpkin candle because it's Halloween. Moonlight. This is a good episode. Maddie's parents throw a party to bring Maddie out of her funk while in L.A., David and Viola Curtis Armstrong, decide to forget women and get on with their lives by meeting some women. It's weird that that sounds more like a Valentiney episode than a Halloween episode. Moonlight. See, the problem with the moonlighting was they had a lot of production issues because Bruce Willis and Civil Shepherd were fighting all the time. And so they had difficulty doing timely episodes. Episodes were late. There was a lot of reruns. So they didn't have as many holiday episodes because of that. There was a great haunted house episode that aired in the spring, which is a good Halloween episode but wasn't sort of intended. So it wasn't done for Halloween. She was so gorgeous and she was so handsome. Yeah, I would agree. They both are. They're both. I am not so much. Well, I mean, it's not what you're into. That's true. But yeah, again with sexual tension. That worked though. It totally worked. Then I was like, don't do it. Yeah, I was like, keep it. Yeah. Because once they did, it was the last of them. This was fun and playful. I love Civil Shepherd. I love her book, Civil Disobedience, which I recommend. Oh, I want to watch that. Yeah. Yeah. Watch that. I don't read. I just watched that way for it to come out on a movie. It's a book on video. Yep. And I love Civil. That was a great show on the nights. She's beautiful. Oh, I love Civil. Civil was a fun show. Yeah, this is a different sexual tension than on Who's the Boss, where it's like... Or this sexual tension night on ABC. Yeah, pretty much. I mean, I think that with Who's the Boss, it was like, always the sexual tension was weird. Like, Tony would make muffins during the day and Angela would come in and reach for one and so would he. And they'd both have their hand on the muffins. Yeah, a little cute. Yeah. That's annoying to me. Hand on the muffins. Like, that's not saying on the muffins. Yeah. And it would just happen all the time. Another great band name. Hand on a muffin. Hand on a muffin. It's a scab end. All right. So, because the only other choices you had at that time are in USA Network, everything you always have in the muffins. I have that. But we're afraid to ask what's on. Yeah. The less said about Woody Allen at this point, the better. And Jake and the Fat Man, of course. Jake and the Fat Man. I don't know. Just really offensive. Anyone who watched that. To the Fat Man. And people named Jake. Yes. I had everything you want, always want to know about sex. I probably would have been really torn. Like, do I watch moonlighting or do I watch this movie? I would have been really torn. Weirdly moonlighting probably taught you more about sex. Yes. Also, I will mention at 10 o'clock one of my favorite shows, Crime Story was on. Crime Story? Great show. One of Michael Mains finest. Yep. So, Wednesday night we move on eight o'clock. What do you get? I watch. I'm going to watch Perfect Strangers. That's the move. Oh. Cousin Larry. Yeah. This is a good episode. It listens numbly as famous psychic predicts that Larry will be, quote, eating a golden ring and sitting on a sheep on the day that a terrible storm ushers in the grim reaper. Now, you know, and I don't remember this episode, but I'm sure you do, that at some point at the end of this episode, he actually probably was sitting on a sheep eating a ring with a storm happening. Yeah. It was a Halloweeny episode. Yeah. Even though it aired on November 4th, the only other thing that was on is highway to heaven. Yeah. I don't like that show at all. The weirdly, the Halloween episode of Highway to Heaven is amazing and good, but this was an awful episode. A comic and his movie star son are practically typecast and a play about father and son who never know how to get to know each other. Yeah. No, see that? Yeah. That sums up highway to heaven for me in a nutshell. It was just, I don't need an hour of a life's lesson from people who are dead. Now, the worst episode of Highway to Heaven I can remember was a guy in a wheelchair who the character was a real dick and his wife wanted to adopt this mentally challenged orphan and he was like, "I don't want a dummy for a kid." And like, I was like, "Wow, they made the wheelchair guy like a jerk and it was a two part. But I'm sure there was a lesson at the end. I never made it to the end. Yeah. Well, I don't know. Yeah. I think if you could fast forward to the end and just get the lessons and then switch to perfect strangers, you'd be in a good place. Right. Well, that just read the Bible while watching perfect strangers. Right. You'd be fine. So, you know what I mean? I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that.
