(upbeat music) ♪ On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me ♪ ♪ Six geese and layin' ♪ ♪ My golden rings ♪ ♪ Four calling birds ♪ ♪ Three French heads ♪ ♪ Two turtle ducks ♪ ♪ And a partridge in a pear tree ♪ On this day in 1920, the original Dixieland jazz band recorded Blue in the Blues in New York City for Victor Records. On their records, jazz is spelled J-A-S-S, and although they had the nerve to build themselves as the creators of jazz, they were actually five white guys who were simply imitating the African-American bands in New Orleans. They are, however, able to lay claim to recording the first jazz record ever released, a feat they accomplished in 1917.
