Jim has spent the last few years in the shadows, perfecting his craft and vision. This EP embodies creativity, character, and absolutely oozes atmosphere. ‘The Watchman’ is a smashing start to the EP - a rolling, deep techno track, with panning vocal chops and percussion swaying from ear to ear. There’s a real unique groove about this one, and it provides a truly hypnotic listen. ‘Zelkova’ is the next addition to the EP, and takes it down a gear for a downtempo, atmospheric masterclass. With crispy tops, moody synths and low subs, this track is all about immersion and atmosphere. Upon listening it’s impossible not to be enveloped in the deeper tones. ‘Railay’ is the final solo effort from Jim on this project, and takes the energies up to 100. Booming kicks at breakneck speed, spinning synthwork and rattling subs on this one make it a track fitting for any DJs USB. Last but not least, we have George NB’s flip of ‘The Watchman’. The remix takes the bpm’s up to 165, and is characterised with old-school breaks packed with groove. This flip grabs the elements and atmosphere from the original, and gives it a unique twist. This project really embodies what we want to provide with Ascension. A move away from the short-form clutter that seems to be everywhere. A laser focus on immersion and atmosphere, across all sub-genres of electronica. A space for the heads, and for those who love the art of electronic music.
