we're back this is the hunt and mason dixon podcast i'm on my own this trip uh... i'm in springfield illinois right now and a good friend of mine his name's chris j uh... kody he he caught a little bit of the sickness this time so we're up here for the illin or that sorry the awa uh... was it no i would i would be a classic okay yes i would be a classic i never been uh... so i just figured let's let's let's get up with chris j here i'm on state his house tonight in him and i were going to head out early in the morning after his kids go to school and everything and uh... so figured hey we're drinking beer i got the podcast stuff with me we want i'm going to try to record a few podcasts this weekend's you know just kind of this bullshit in this whole time while we're here and uh... just kind talk about life and who we are chris how we met and uh... i think it i think it'll be fun yeah absolutely absolutely i'm your host jordan jones uh... cut like i said kody triplets gone and uh... you know it just is what it is is what it is cody stop getting stop one of miami and get sick you know how you got a watch out for that down there i've heard that absolutely absolutely yeah well for the people that lives under a rock if you if you don't listen to work in class bow hunter uh... then you probably don't know who the hell this guy is uh... so let's let's just assume you don't chris chris jay who the hell are you man even if you do working listen to work in class boat and you still may not know who i am but uh... i'm a uh... bow hunter from here and uh... central lonoy uh... grown-up uh... shooting competition archery and stuff and uh... got into uh... bow hunting a little bit uh... probably got into high school and everything at a sports and everything and stuff kind of really took a pretty serious uh... interest into it everything at that point just add to uh... the season other than the shotgun season everything that everybody did as a kid as we're around here and stuff and uh... yeah i've been uh... helping out working class bow hunter as i can as i uh... found those guys and stuff and uh... been helping them out for the last you know your to now and uh... yeah it's been a uh... spent fun it's been fun but then uh... met a lot of a lot of great people with it it's one of those things i mean you and i can add a conversation about it earlier you can try to sit surround yourself with people that make you better in in the positions in the things that you want to be good at like-minded people like-minded people and i mean there's there's few people and few groups that are going to be better than than the ones that were in especially and i mean the the amount of driven people and the amount of people that you can bounce ideas off of and and and stuff like that i mean that's a it's a definitely good group to be part of though one hundred percent like i mean well cody introduced me to the working class guys he did uh... well i knew who they were and honestly i was not a podcast guy yeah i just never was i was just the type of guy that i'm gonna listen to music or whatever i'm gonna jam out or it's gonna be silent oh yeah and uh and whenever he said hey man they have a shooting in june and i've said this on earlier episodes i believe if i can remember i we've had a quite a few now um but he said hey man let's let's let's go to let's go to illinois in june you know and i never forget and cody's probably gonna like uh he's probably gonna kill me for whatever he hears this he's like man there there's a couple people that i really want to meet and chris jay is one of them i'm like who the fuck is this chris jay guy you know yeah yeah never even heard of him or anything like that and then then here i am and cost of day chris jay in your basement you know later on uh end up being a uh a pretty decent feller you know now we have a little tradition you know we we grab our eagle rare and and cigar and we set out and you know in illinois and and uh just have us a good old time like while we're at this jute so um if you've never been to the shoot i mean now it has created a relationship here that's what i've absolutely loved you know it's it's been good and it's all about the community and everything i said the the shoot is amazing because because everybody gets to everybody's there for the exact same reason everybody i mean there's not a bunch of assholes running around and stuff everybody is open you can talk to i mean you can go up and have a conversation with anybody that's a part of the podcast kurt doh ross austin eric all all those guys are standing around there and everything and i mean you don't get much more of an open opportunity to have a conversation with those guys and exactly and everybody else that shows up there is uh a fan a supporter and everything and we're just out there to have a good time drink more than a couple bush lattes and then go for the after party afterwards and everything where things get a little bit blurry but yeah i mean it's a great time to have a driver yeah absolutely have a driver but i've met i mean i've met people from all around the country it which is insane yeah just go into that shoot i mean i met you guys from north carolina but buddy's out in like new jersey we we've got there's people from there's people from all over the country that come in to just hang out go through the 3d course and and have a great time and it is i mean it's a great time oh dude and it's so fun like what you know because we normally go set up the course the day before hand and then the day of the shoot kurtle walk out with a damn megaphone oh yeah and and and like he like you like he's you're at full draw at 45 yards on a cobra standing cobra and he's gonna boil the siren in your ear and just i mean but man it's just fun and the and the relationships that he is created between you and ryan and chris ziger and and a bunch of other people you know like where i stayed with austin janler and and i won and uh this has been cool yeah it it's one of those things i mean what other i i grew up shooting archery 3d shoots and stuff and i mean the working class bow hunters have great sponsors and stuff like that and the whole podcast system does and it's one of those things they're walking through as people are shooting and handing out loopholes sunglasses binoculars range finders i mean everybody could leave with like bag of big time and stuff like that and it's unbelievable you can go there and pay your ten dollars to shoot the shoot and everything and walk away with you know i walked away with six hundred dollars with the stuff like yeah i was let's say co he won a free deer mount yeah exactly in the first time first time that uh that i met my buddy brandon that uh lives out on the east coast he he comes in and he's like so um i i got a pair of sunglasses while we're out there like cur just walked up and like handed him to me he's like yeah i'm like they're sponsored by lupold or i was like he he goes and hands stuff out i'm like dude you drove for like frickin 15 hours to get out here i'm like you deserve something i was coming out absolutely absolutely so it's super cool like again their sponsors are great they gave away i mean there was probably four five thousand dollars with the stuff that you could have won off the shoot-off last year i was like yeah i was lucky enough one of the years that i was there i won a brand new elite bow yeah i'm like yeah i'm like unbelievable yeah yeah it was a heck of a good time you had to chug a beer to end of it yeah yeah i retired after that i'm too old for that shit after having to run after having to run didn't tell me i was after run a hundred and fifty yards and then chug a beer about died i was a vertigo at the end where you had to touch the side side i was sitting there i was like yeah i was like yeah yeah yeah yep yep so i might ask you this christ and you know i want to get into more some southern stuff here in just a little bit but how did you get in with working-class guys so i i uh i i'd been to uh i think the first time i went to the shoot and everything um i'd known the known of the guys had been to some of the trade shows and things like that and had some conversations with a few of the guys um just participated in um some of their forums and everything kind of supporting them and then uh um when i went to um i had a really good year hmm 2021 i killed a couple bucks and uh um then i trapped a bobcat i think that spring or like that January um and Kurt had reached out to me and he's like hey he's like i gotta get you on the bobcat on the podcast to talk about the like the year you had and like trapped in the bobcat and everything and they're just them and i kind of hit it off like again i'm uh i was a supporter to begin with and everything and i'm i'm one of those people like i'll at the drop of a hat if you need something i'm gonna help you there and and uh you're that friend that people wish that they had well i i try to be you and it always be that yeah yeah and for sure but i it was one of those things um i told them like you know if you guys need help with anything you know down the road whatever it may be i said just let me know um and i was on the podcast and that that year i just so happened to win the elite bow during the the shoot and everything and then oh so the year that i met you was like that when you've really got okay yeah so the year the year that you and i met um i won yeah i think so um i won the uh or 22 i don't know whatever it was but i'd won the elite bow that year and then um i had had a really nice bow and the elite that actually that i had won i've got arms longer than than days and um it wasn't quite long enough for me to be able to actually shoot and so uh i talked to kurt and everything and i said hey i'm like i want to give this thing away i'm like i want to raffle it off and we'll give it proceeds to catch a dream foundation and so uh him and i helped or he helped me kind of get get things rolling everything with it and then at the shoot um he let me go ahead and and re-announce it and stuff and i was able to give a thousand dollars from the raffle of that bow to catch a dream foundation um and then there was uh the girl that actually won it she was on site that day i was able to give her the bow like a brand new elite terrain pretty pretty bow yeah there was a super nice boat i'm like um she was unbelievably you know happy about it and stuff and so that was super super cool but uh it was one of the things i'm like hey uh we all kind of just hit it off like you said it we're all similar age things like that and uh we said they kind of invited me into the into the group a little bit and hey well it's not something you live in Illinois yeah so i mean you're close you're you're willing right hey i'll say this like i mean you and your life have been great with hospitality here in the house and and you got two great kids and your wife is sitting there saying yeah go do whatever you want to do you know and so that speaks that speaks Warner's Beth if you listen to this i love you baby okay yeah all right yeah it's one of those things uh you can't kill big deer if your wife sucks like that whole thing can't kill big bucks if you don't what if your wife sucks it's it's one of them things uh i'm a hundred percent blessed that uh she lets me do what uh what uh i'm passionate about and everything supports me and so the kids again my biggest thing is is kind of creating something or giving myself opportunities and and being a being a role model for my kids and showing them you know if you work hard you can have success in whatever you're whatever you're trying to accomplish and so they know that i work hard on trying to be you know a deer hunter and a dad and and everything else and and uh hopefully you know the success follows and and and showing that because i can't damn wait until i can get them out yeah because that's all that's all i care about is being able to have them at some point out there with me so that we can all share it together well right now little mason is whooping everybody's asking Mario Kart yeah he's pretty good at that he's pretty good at that i've been talking shit to Chris's kid the seven-year-old twins i'm like listen none of y'all his little daughter like i told her that i did gymnastics and whenever i was a kid now i could do flips better than her and i told his son mason then i could whoop his ass and and Mario Kart and i got my my dick knocked in the dirt basically yeah like your seven-year-old son could whoop some ass at Mario Kart he's pretty good yeah yeah absolutely yeah absolutely you don't want to mess with him when it comes to that shit yeah yeah yeah i this is it's been it was fun though i was like dude i don't want to stop playing dad yeah don't make him go to bed i want to keep i want to keep playing at Mario Kart all with their ass you know next time next time yeah so next year when i come up here with the i would hear classic i mean we're gonna come here you know every year it's on hopefully absolutely yep so uh man i'm kind of switch gears a little bit here um dude what do you know about southern hunting man uh other than you know videos like growing up watching real tree videos and things like that and those are from Georgia from Georgia um then boys down there bone collector guys and stuff like that um and even i mean um some of the uh guys that go down to like all over is it all uh down Louisiana yeah yeah and shit like that like the Mississippi Delta like the Delta guys yeah people guys absolutely yeah yeah uh things like that everything and just you know conversations with you or even even you go to like YouTube and stuff like the untamed guys and things like that i want to get Josh Josh Yoderton on dude i'm like he's just a party he just said he's gonna be a great guy absolutely i love his emotional everything i absolutely love it i i freaking went down the rabbit hole and on their shit whenever like a couple years ago and i just watched absolutely everything that they have when they were stalking deer like in the minds of next time oh my god i'm only like three hours from my house and and it's also freaking giants yeah i'm like what the hell like somebody's deer freaking slam so there's there's a guy that used to be that was associated with a trace of boom and like i'd love to talk to these guys i mean i listen i'm a little nobody you know right now so far like just getting started you know i'm i'm under your umbrella you know and i'm trying to do my best to get to get them up but like dude the untamed guys um Jay and and and Josh and then and i know Kirk and then they had their their their split off or whatever but i want to get those guys on because man what they doing west Virginia killing freaking giants absolutely and in three hours from my house yep i love that stuff yeah yeah and the local thing for sure but i mean it's one of those things that um were unbelievably spoiled being yeah where i grew up that i mean absolutely i never knew i i mean honestly i had a lot we had a lot of struggles whenever i grew up as a kid because we just didn't have a lot of places to hunt yeah and we we had some permit we had a permission piece that we were able to shotgun hunt at as as a young kid but other than that we didn't have anything yeah and so we'd go shotgun hunt and and that be it and then we were we lucked into uh a nice piece of property to be able to hunt probably whenever i whenever i got just into high school and it wasn't until then that i even killed my first deer yeah like i had some opportunities and stuff at the at a piece of uh on our permission piece which is honestly in the golden triangle of Illinois yeah like it's one of those places that anybody would dream of hunting but guess what there's still pieces over there that aren't great compared uh just because you know Illinois doesn't anything yeah yeah and so uh it was one of those things we had i mean it was a struggle every year and and i'd wounded a deer too as a as a real young kid um and it you know he kind of soured me maybe just a little bit i would say probably and the conditions and and everything that i had went through whenever i was real young i was real driven to be out there but whenever we were out there as a kid we you went in an hour before daylight and you didn't come out on noon oh absolutely and as a you know 10 12 13 year old kid with i would take talk to watch on a phone nothing i mean you don't have a flip phone even to play snake on you're sitting on the side of a hill with a couple snacks yeah before six eight six seven hours yeah and then going and grabbing lunch and going right back out there board of shit and i mean i spent a lot of time sleeping in shit too i i mean honestly as a kid and everything we got stories about that stuff too but it's like i mean it was rough and it made you appreciate it though now it damn sure made me appreciate it for sure like i ain't gonna lie to you man i like i watched tik tok like i said on the victor drive podcast yeah like tik tok cost me from shooting a no you know if you can't make you know just sitting there watching it you know oh yeah he's kids nowadays and then it's so easy to do it's so easy to just pull up your phone be like i haven't seen anything for like two minutes and look down on my phone for you know the last 10 minutes all of a sudden you looked at it just like i what was that i mean i can hear every god i can hear it yeah oh yeah the day or snakes yeah absolutely absolutely so but yeah i i mean i was able to take my kids out this year and uh um during shotgun season and we put a blind up and i had my dad out there with me and we had we got out there it couldn't have worked out any freaking better like we went out there we got out to the woods at four o'clock at four thirty this dough and buck shows up right in the right in the middle of the south alfalfa field and i shoot her and the buck buck was a bucks and it really is actually a really really neat buck but i just didn't want to use my last buck tag on him um but uh end up dropping hurt like 130 with my shotgun and uh they were they were just i mean absolutely pumped but they were again we had been through we'd been there for 25 minutes 30 minutes they had been through every snack that we brought they drank their they drank for special drink we brought with us and everything and now they're like they they picked alfalfa thinking it was at four leaf clovers for about 10 minutes and it's just like hey um can we play our ipads and it's like damn it like yeah i'm like we're gonna play our ipads for the next like 20 minutes and then it's gonna be like shooting light and we're gonna be like last 30 minutes we're gonna be looking around we're gonna be serious and stuff and just what happened to hit right then yeah and uh but it was still i mean that was by far the best of the year absolutely um the excitement on their face and being able to share all that with them and my dad was i mean something never forget well dude i like i took my little boy hunting this year and uh it was funny like i had this blind setup and watching over this cut over and we're sitting there and like we literally been there two minutes he goes all right dad was a deer and i'm like uh buddy this ain't how it works you know and i'm like waiting till like an hour and a half before dark i knew what time did oh yeah i mean i have a camera and that we hadn't been there 15 minutes he's like daddy i'm hungry okay all right well here's your snack well daddy i'm still hungry yeah i'm like i'm thinking like what this kid's four years old you know what what do i do well then here comes some does in and i brought my ipad and stuff and like i was like well i don't want him to watch this yet like i don't want him to get into it well i'll be damned if those didn't come in and he's like you gonna kill him yeah i went well nobody i'm gonna wait on a nice buck he went well if he ain't gonna shoot him i'll watch SpongeBob yeah i'm like well buddy i mean there's a big big buck coming here all right and i'm gonna try to kill a big buck he goes i'm gonna watch SpongeBob till the big buck comes in yeah well the big buck didn't show up at evening so i wake up the next morning and the big buck didn't show up and like he was i was it was cold right cold it was 20 and like for a four-year-old oh yeah and a cloth blind yeah now i did have a buddy heater yeah that thing was blowing he's like daddy i'm burning up and i'm like but i know as soon as i turn this off you're going to get freezing cold and it's gonna be daylight and so i'm like all right we're in there like 45 minutes four daylight and i turn the buddy heater on i let him watch SpongeBob all the way to get like close to daylight it's like hi buddy i'm sure yeah yeah i'm trying to turn off SpongeBob i turn it off nice buck walks in and i'm looking at it's like hi buddy look at that buck he's like daddy that's a big buck shoot it and i'm like well it's not really what i want to shoot right he's like well if you ain't gonna shoot i'm gonna watch SpongeBob i'm like buddy like enjoy the moment you know but then like i i think that's like a big misconception it's hard it is hardly like and that's what that's kind of where we were to is that they had they look up and and i opened the blind up so they could see and i said hey look out in this field i said so you see the dough yeah yeah are you gonna shoot it and i said well do you want me to and they're like yeah absolutely i'm like well i'm like there's a buck right over here and i said there could be another buck or something coming behind us because it was you know first i mean it was first shotgun season here in Illinois and everything last day of the season uh first season and again we got freaking super blessed i think it was 60 55 60 degrees so it's like super cold yeah like we had long like long sleeve shirts and orange vests and stuff and and it was you know about perfect you couldn't ask for anything better but i told them i'd say hey you want me to shoot her and they're like yeah yeah yeah let's shoot her like okay yeah well everybody get ready here's your earmuffs everybody get your get that ready okay is everybody ready and i get on the shooting sticks and they're like yep we're ready and i had my go i had a gopro sitting there running and it was perfect because i i told my dad i said hey i'm not getting ready to shoot he's like okay and he taps on my daughter's shoulder and said hey i'm getting ready to shoot her daddy's getting ready to shoot and uh at that time i shoot and it was awesome because she goes she turns them to my son mason and goes and you see her eyes get real big and then he looks at he looks at her and he's like what and he's like it's like i look at him i said we got her we got her because she just i mean she i think she went she just did like a circle right there and dropped and uh i was like we got her and my daughter jumped up and she gave me a big hug can we go get her and i'm like we're gonna wait a minute yeah i might just relax and the buck kind of stood right there and they got to sit and watch him for a few minutes and everything and they're like oh i see her and there she is and i said yep there she is and i said can we go get her and i'm like well we're gonna wait for the buck to move off and we waited for about you know five or ten minutes probably and uh get up and and run over there and they they just took off running right at her because i could see her across the field take off running at her and get over there and it was just amazing and it was one of those things i i had uh i had told the wife whenever we went down there i said well i'm like i'll let you know how it goes i said you know shooting light was you know five fifteen or five thirty or whatever it was that night and we were driving driving out of the farm and on our way home twenty minutes before shooting light was over with i'm like you literally couldn't i could not have planned a better not absolutely not and we'd taken them out i'd taken them out through like i think two or three times other than that and never even seen yeah yeah and they had played their ipads most of the time and stuff and it or it was nasty and we'd made try to make a big thing of it here we're gonna go to cases and get you know snacks and stuff whatever yeah absolutely and and make it a big make it a big deal but side note cases it's fucking awesome we don't have cases down in ocarola yeah it's fucking awesome i love so we have it with like when i went to i with this year there was one just right at the road on the way to hunt so i could go get me a picture yeah in Kansas where i hunt there there's one right next to where we stay in the Airbnb yep it was amazing yep i love that place but yeah and it's one of the things we growing up that was our that was our grocery store that was that was the only thing we had in my little town that i grew up in was the casey's and so i was spoiled that's i mean we used to go up there as a kid at like eight thirty nine o'clock at night and be like hey if you have any leftover pizza they used to give us a pizza as like a you know twelve thirteen fourteen fifteen-year-old kid we'd run up we'd run up there and and be like oh yeah just take whatever's left and we just start that pizza oh yeah yeah it was great yeah yeah but uh yeah it was just one of those things keeping it keeping it fun format as much as you possibly can absolutely and and again having that success and being able to get it and then bringing it home and making a big deal of it like hey all right now we're gonna have we're gonna have the back straps off over tonight we're gonna we made deer sticks for summer soliders and stuff out of our head well like tonight we yeah i mean we ate the the buck that you killed yeah we ate it you know the hot dogs yeah that's how it's good yeah it's one of those things just trying to keep it they know they know where some where a lot of that stuff comes from absolutely and and that's important because it's like you know the world we live in now where we tend to move further and further away from that like i want to know i i want them to have the experiences like hey like this is this is something we harvested and and we my daughter i mean she was ready to hey we we drag her over here like yeah we're gonna drag her down here and and dad's gonna clean her fall help and i'm like i'm like i want to burn you out i'm like i'm like i'm like well i'm like maybe next year but i said i said at this point i said why don't you go up grandpa tear down the blind and everything get everything taken back to the truck and uh i said i said dad will get him get her cleaned up and everything get her cleaned up and go over there and we got some great pictures and stuff and and everything else we got loaded in the truck and again knowing knowing again what you're eating and trying to put not only a put a face to kind of yeah exactly like you saw what happened yeah they know this is food like they know like hey this deer was running around we saw her she died and we got to eat her and and it's awesome and we love it yeah and so that's that's one of the big big things about it for sure yeah and that's like whenever i grew up like my grandpa got obviously my dad in the hunting he killed his first deer whenever he was eight years old i killed my first deer whenever i was eight and like getting me into the actual hunting world like it's i didn't realize how big of a ordeal it was you know obviously whenever i was a kid you know like all i knew growing up was like i see all these big deer heads in my dad's house and i'm like i want that yeah now you know my brother he took a he took a like he went to the baseball route yeah he loved to hunt he killed a lot of deer whenever he was growing up but he took the baseball route he could have played major league baseball just didn't work out and then for me i'm like no i just want a bunch of deer heads yeah you know and and and trying to get these kids and and and this then age to get them to be patient enough right that's hard it's so hard now they have a tool there between a phone or ipad to be able to get them to like get there like well hey at least i got my phone or ipad and enlist them we can't scall the kids because hell i do it we're just bad absolutely me and you were sitting there texting the entire time while while we're in like hey hey look at this funny tick-tock that i said you know and that's that's kind of the biggest thing and like i think like the times have changed big time oh 100 you know because i i mean i had like i had a no-key of brick phone like whenever they first come out yeah like i was yeah 12 13 years old and i was playing snake yeah i got really good at damn snake i can tell you that i was gonna say yep i had it when i turned 16 years old that's what i got i got i got the no-key of brick phone and we were playing snake or whatever on it and you couldn't do anything i remember whatever i got like we used to have to pay for text messages like her text message yes and i remember my mom and dad whip it like being so pissed because i got to college and people were sending me text messages and i was like coming after nine o'clock please oh yeah call me after nine o'clock it was just it was one of the things it's like stop stop doing this like you're running up our cell phone bill and stuff and yeah now it's um i mean everything's free everything or unlimited and it's it's gonna be there's so many more distractions and things that are thrown on top of of these kids and even us that helps that keeps us from fully enjoying fully being immersed and you know the in nature when we're out there and being able to fully focus on kind of what's going on and i'm i mean i'm super bad about it depending on the honestly the time of year like whenever it early season and stuff i'll be sitting there messing my phone and stuff like that but whenever it comes to be the rut and things like that i'm herdy dam focused and yeah i kind of i kind of flip a switch almost kind of like mesh is is it more focused in the mornings or in the evenings it's it's both they yeah i'm i'm just me i'm morning's thing really i'm focused i am i'm an all day i'm an all day or when it comes most of that stuff and i've become more and more of an all day sick guy over the last probably four or five years why is that um kind of one of those things i hadn't had a lot of success over over the years it'd be kind of sporadic but it was as i had gotten into more and more of like honestly like trail cam data or um even just like different experiences that i'd had like i'd had more and more encounters like during the middle of the day and things like that where i maybe even or even a picture where i just missed a buck or i'm driving out somewhere to go get lunch and there's a buck on a dole out in the middle field it's like god like if that could be happening right where i'm at right now i'd never freaking know it and so i've spent more and more times in some all day sits as you know time allows i probably do you know five to ten a year now but and and try to pick the days to be what i what i think is the best haters or you know what if i've got a cell cam saying showing that there's you know some mid-day movement things like well now i'm going to go ahead and take a day off and go sit all day because it looks similar tomorrow kind of a thing but uh it's it's one of them things i anything can happen so damn fast and i've made a mess i would be it'd be one of those things i've heard people say statistics and stuff it's like oh well even somebody that's sitting there completely on pens and needles just waiting for something to happen they may see like 40 percent of the deer that are moving around them is that not insane but but and they like crazy it's like how many times okay all right i'm sorry i mean you're up to you how many times have you sat there and you just like looked up and there's a deer like a hundred yards or like what how'd you come from how how the hell did that say even 20 or yeah or even like sitting there and it's pretty damn quiet and you and you think man i'd be able to hear anything and all of a sudden 20 yards it's like here's a twig break and it's like where the hell did you come from absolutely like i don't like in the mountains of North Carolina a lot of times i can see a long ways off in the deep hollers and and the 40 percent like i mean you only see 40 percent of the deer that you're hunting yeah like i can see how that is because with so many distractions and everything like i'm looking off in a holler and i just happened just to catch a glimpse of the ass of a deer right then i see it and like now i never see it again i'm like i just happen to look up right at the right time and and if i was fully engaged and and there's so many things that's going on in this day right world that it's just so hard to be fully engaged it seems like but you know it is one of this yeah i mean that's it's what makes hunting fun for me is because i'm not bored while i'm sitting there oh yeah yeah i hate to say that yeah sounds terrible but yeah i'm middle or bored oh yeah definitely i mean you do there there's always seem like something moving on or moving around and everything or you know different you can only watch so many squirrels doing dumb shit anything else and and uh i've watched it for years oh yeah i mean it doesn't get you better and or you know bobcats or whatever the hell else we've got then fuckers are thick around us nowadays and and uh it just seems like there's always something something going on or something you could see or if i mean tons of distractions yeah yeah absolutely absolutely well dude i want to get here's a question or here's kind of like a statement i'm kind of transitioning a little bit and i think i i mentioned this to you before i think there's a disconnect right between midwestern hunters and southern hunters right and and i'm just going to say this from a southern guy and from what i hear i hear this a lot and i want you this can be you can answer this with one question or like with one statement we can have this as a conversation i don't i really don't give a shit how where it goes from this point right i hear this a lot but if i live in midwest i'd kill giant deer every year too tell me how true that is there's a lot of giant deer in midwest there are i'm not i'm not going to lie yeah i mean there's there is a reason that if you look up the popin young boond and crockett whatever it is mapping everything uh north carolina or and you know the southern states and stuff they're not listed on there there's no there's reason for that yeah but why don't you have uh 20 boond and crockett deer on your on your wall well how long you've been hunting how many years you've been done so i probably started deer hunting i think whenever i was probably in about fifth or sixth grade was whenever i first first yeah yeah but it was whenever i first started deer hunting everything like that mid thirties in the house for your every 20 years oh why don't you have 20 boond and crockett's well i mean it's not from lack of trying um but uh i mean i i do feel i do feel with um the age that we're in and and it and it goes in spurts there's there's a lot of big big big deer they get killed every year and the technology that we have now um food plots nutrition things like that even management practices things and and stuff that add on top of it people are looking for that upper echelon of deer um like Kurt always says like yeah big deer cooler than you know than smaller deer it's cool to shoot a bigger deer um but that boond and crockett deer even even i mean you're talking not even boond and crockett deer and uh one fifty type of deer you can't slip into one fifty i mean you don't trip into one fifty and you're you're hunting the five percent and less probably even the one percent of of the deer population yeah uh i don't care how many deer you got that had a lot of deer yeah well i mean like okay so i mean i i hear it and i'll just say this i used to say it too man i used to say it all the time like oh dude if i moved to Iowa oh i'd kill boners every year i'd shoot giant deer every year right until i started hunting the midwest right and then i've hunted midwest for fifteen years now and i've killed i mean i got lucky this past year i shot a 170 plus and then i shot uh like a 160 in Kansas that's two deer out of 15 years right two deer well i mean and there's so many factors from the guys that do come up and travel like you like you're gonna i don't care what what weekend you pick you can say hey i'm gonna hunt the first week of november second week of november whatever it's all weather dependent every year it's completely different we'll say most guys like me they're only hunting just a certain type of year right and so they're obviously everybody's saying big deer at the time of your everybody yeah absolutely that's that's your best chance for those deer to be on their feed chasing pussy i mean it is what it is yeah i mean yeah i mean but uh at the end of the day i mean those deer ain't dumb and there's a there i i guarantee you there's there's guys that if they did move up here there's gonna be guys that trip into them the hell there's guys who come up here for the very first time they ever deer hunt killing monster i mean i did it i mean first time ever hunted i well i killed a 170 i mean like i was fucking with a guy case he's one day yeah like a guy coming to me he's like yeah you damn out of status coming for a shoot all our deer is like oh shit it's easy up here man i just shoot one say first morning they're just everywhere up here but dude they're not they're not and like and i i've even told my buddies like man just because you're in the midwest like it so basically where i wanted to go with this conversation right is if how i've always said it is all right the guys that say that like oh if i lived in the midwest i'd kill boners too they are not the guys that kill big deer at home yeah like like you live in north carolina south carolina virginia tennessee what every like you're only saying that because that's what you see on instagram and in an instagram that you're seeing everybody's best moments right or you're saying what's on tv right and so then you get these people that's down here it's going like oh i'm like i i kill a giant up here like well what's a giant to you exactly is probably not a giant to them you know yeah like so let's let's all the horns off are you killing five and a half and six and a half your old deer at home that's where it's at absolutely absolutely if you are and if you are yeah there's a good chance you can come up here and at the end of the day deer deer they act they're out there to survive and she's having a half-year-old deer if you're getting here to florida if you're getting bow range within a five and a half six and a half-year-old deer anywhere in the country you fucking accomplish something that's incredible because all they care about is fucking a little exactly so if you put yourself in a range that you can kill one yeah you there's a good chance you could probably and you do it consistently you can do it probably anywhere yeah because because you've learned enough that you've been able to put yourself in those positions but i hate to break it but i mean there isn't a boner around every corner on here what yeah what no there's there's there's a boner in every tree in Illinois y'all in Kansas there's there is good deer there's especially i mean if you're looking if you're looking to come here and shoot a pope a young type of deer yeah you could probably go to any county in this state you probably go to any county in Ohio Indiana Illinois Iowa Kansas i mean i mean throw them all out there if you if you decided to come here and you're just looking for a respectable deer that's you know a pope a young type of deer there's a good chance you come here the first two weeks of November and know your shit hunt smart hunt you know if you're a decent hunter if you're a decent hunter you you're there's a good chance you're gonna get you an opportunity yeah yeah well like i call myself i'm a big buckshooter adder yeah you know i mean like i i'm going to see if i if i spent if i feel like me i if i spent two weeks and Illinois on public land didn't know anything about the area whatever i feel like i could see a decent buck yeah that doesn't mean i can get shot at it right and you know and that's i wanted to bring it up with you because i know you shoot it straight honestly i know i know that you know how it is like i'm sure that you have seen it from being at trade shows and and living up your whole life like you've heard it a thousand times like oh yeah it must be nice living in Illinois having these big bucks around in a corner yeah they're not no i mean you don't have a house full of owners here but you've got a house full of giants yeah but you don't have a house full of bones no no and it's just and you live in one of the best states well hell at one point it was the number one burning crockett state in the country yep yep into wisconsin right decided to show up yep absolutely and it's i mean we see it here and i i mean i still i've got private property that i that i can hunt but i still have public and stuff around here and come november and october i mean half the half license plates you see are from out of state which is fine i mean they're they're in here to do the exact same thing that i'm doing and kudos with them for coming up here and paying the prices and and work on their ass off to try to do the same thing that i'm doing um but at the end of the day again i mean the if you don't have the the knowledge and and hunt and smart and things like that you're you're not going to get a chance at a deer let alone a good good deer when it comes when it comes around here we'll say the people in the south are used to hunting baitpops right and out here right there ain't no baitpops one you're hunting you're hunting a 300 acre cornfield that's a that's a 300 acre baitpops yeah yeah exactly there's like oh yeah you got all this bait out here well yeah these deer fucking bed in it yeah you know they're they're they're they come out in one corner where you're you can't get with a hundred yards of them and they run to the middle of the field yeah absolutely because they've been hunted or or whatever i mean it's deer ain't stupid i mean deer aren't stupid any animal if they've been hunted or whatever they learn damn quick on what the hell they need to do to survive well i like i've always wanted like ask a midwesterner how does it feel whenever somebody says some shit i can't tell you like oh yeah if i lived out there if i moved out there i killed boonders all the time or hey i wouldn't even shoot a deer unless it was 170 come on out yeah try try try it you know me deer you know me deer i've hunted or that have been them been on properties that i've been able to hunt that are over 170 like a handful yeah and i'm like i'm honest i'm i'm on this like i'm honestly super blessed that i've even been able to could even say that you know many people i'm i feel unbelievably honored to be able to kill the deer that i've been able to kill over the last five ten years you know me and my dad always always says it and he's told me for years you know me people would kill to be able to have the the properties that we're able to hunt and to kill the deer we've been able to kill mm-hmm i mean we've got i don't know how many deer we've probably got 30 deer over 120 that we've killed that i mean 30 deer that are popa young deer and you got scol- mean you got you got scol-mounts here of deer that dude i would like dot mam right right you know but i mean and it's one of those things i mean you know we got so much room and stuff and we've kept i mean we've got some good deer mounted and you kind of get to the point where it's like hey what do you do what do you get what are you gonna do i'm not gonna i'm a big believer on honor and that animal and getting you know scol-mount or something of it and or if it's a deer that has some extra meaning and stuff to it i'm definitely gonna get a shoulder mount and things of it oh a hundred percent but uh you know at some point i got i i tried to i've been lucky to kill a buck or two bucks in all over here every year for the last multiple years and it's like well you do that and i hope i do it for the next you know 50 years but at that point you're talking you know 150 to 75 yeah yeah 100 hundred deer mounts yeah yeah 100 mounts and it's like yeah i'm like well i hope my son and daughter like him a lot and hopefully yeah they want to take him or do do whatever they want with it like i told you earlier like i like i i dread the day that something happens to my father because right i mean he's got like 50 some deer mounted and three elk mounted and all these thing around and i'm like god dang like like what am i going to do with all this stuff but you know like i don't mount a deer for anything but me like like i don't care if you ever come to my house and come look at my deer it's right i mount my deer for me you know 100 but like in this case like i've been coming out to the midwest now and i've killed some big deer out here you know got very lucky and killed some big deer out here and like dude i've got a house full of fucking deer heads like my wife like i told her like hey i'm putting my eye with deer upstairs yeah like i mean i've got a basement full of amount of deer i was like i'm putting my deer upstairs she goes honey like when are you gonna stop mounting them like like where where's the cut off i'm like well i'm trying to like go up every deer you know and that's tough yeah you go up that ladder and that's what i mean i've got i've got this luckily i have this little man cave down here and everything and i've got some really good deer down here but the two big bow deer that i killed in 22 i got both of them mounted together on a pedestal that's not a pedestal and i told the wife i i had planned to do the pedestal and stuff with old barn and and stuff like that and i told him i said this is what i want and i didn't even tell her i'm like hey um we're gonna put this upstairs whenever we get in there she said what i said i got a plan i'm like we're gonna put it in dining room what and after she saw it she's like yeah that's really cool but it and again these these things that we get have so much meaning to us and i mean the the deer that i killed the first deer that i killed there in 22 like i was able to i killed an opening day my twins my wife my sister my nephew my dad all got to share in the experience of finding that deer they're like going blood trauma there and all of us were there and he's 150 50 plus inch deer and later on that year i killed one over 160 but i would trade in that 160 plus to go kill that 150 again just to have those experiences again because those memories and everything and and the smile of my dad's face and everything is worth so much more you said picture yeah yeah i i put the picture um i i hadn't put the picture of uh all of us together on the back of the mount and everything i'm like like that is worth more than any any deer um those pictures those memories and things like that and that's why we're that's why we're out there doing that i mean the horns are cool and things like that but it's about those experiences it's about those memories those i've got hunts that happened in the blink of an eye and they don't mean nearly as much as the deer that i had to struggle the whole year or the well i'll say out there to say yes out there say this i'm starting to rub but i think it all it made it better because you now are a father oh yeah hundred percent and well and we're down here my man cave and everything but uh there's a picture right up here um but my shoulder and it's me and my dad in 1989 so my dad my dad your oldest shit i know i'm old uh but uh my dad my dad started bow hunting whenever he was in high school and there wasn't there wasn't a lot of timber a lot of deer around at all like my dad my dad would tell me on snow days and stuff him and his brother would go out and they had a VW bug and and and they had it because they could go out and hunt and they could pick up the bug and move it if they got caught in snow drifts and they would go out and deer hunt or nik pheasant or rabbit hunt everything like that but he bow hunted for let's see 12 years before he killed a deer and he would hunt he considered it a successful year if he saw a deer at all yeah and so but it just so happens that in 1989 the first deer that he killed was a 163 inch 13 pointer that's pretty good oh yeah and so uh i was three years old three and a half years old and uh that deer that deer i killed i mean he had the local newspaper had it right up about him and everything and whenever he killed that deer there's a picture of him and i in the back of his truck and from the moment i was a little kid this deer was always in our down the stairs going in from our from our second story of our house down down to the first floor and you saw it in the in the overhang and everything right there and so everybody always saw it and i always just you always just looked at it had my friends had come over and just thought it was the coolest thing and it was always a memory of that picture in that deer and so whenever i had my kids i was dead set like daddy's gonna kill a fucking big deer at some point and we're gonna recreate that picture and so i got a picture with me and my twins um that that wide eight that's over there i killed him like i think the second year the kids were born and i got a picture of him landing the back of the truck and my daughter like reaching out to grab the antler my son smiling and everything and it almost chucked me up just thinking about it but like that's that's the reason you do it it's for memories like that because i would give up any deer to go and relive that moment and and that's what it's all about like i don't care about the size of the deer and everything and i mean look up it's a good deer at everything but it's i mean honestly i've got 10 deer that are bigger than that deer but being able to share that memory with them is freaking priceless priceless for sure yeah that's and and that i love that yeah i do yeah i do because it's it it's it's it's tough like if you don't have kids to understand like you know and i've got a i've got now he just turned five and like and i killed that killed a big buck with him right and you know like he like i he was gonna watch SpongeBob right you know like you know because i think it's just an age thing but when i i shot the deer and he looked at me and he was like sorry i let my kid cuz he went holy shit dad you smoked him and and the deer like fell and and i was like this is okay he wasn't that big he really wasn't but he was big to him and i got a picture of him and i'll show you the picture Chris but it's a big ass seven-pointer and he's like literally behind this deer and he looks like he's 30 inches wide you know behind this deer my boy smiles like oh my god daddy killed john yeah i get to go to john and i'm like and like i was not going to shoot this deer i was i had planned i like i didn't know this deer was alive to be honest with you i thought i was hunting a bigger deer but like like i shot the deer because my son was with me you know and and when i shot him and and just to see the look on my boy's face was like buddy hold your ears and he said you're killing oh yeah i was like hell yeah you want me to kill him he said shoot his ass you know i mean i'm a four-year-old tell him shoot his ass you know and and um man that it's it's tough and i know like we circled back around our kids but dude that's that's what's big like down in the south like like on tradition like let's raise our kids everything's about our kids but right that shows you how connectable you are it doesn't matter where you are in the country oh hundred percent take you kids man it's all about tradition because yeah the way hunting is going now like here's what i don't like for kids and this is what i want to hate for like your kids growing up in mind is if you're not shooting a booner that you can post on social media you're you're not you're not a good deer hunter right and like i don't want to teach how to my kid like i want to teach my kid like if it's got a heartbeat and it makes you your heart me kill it yeah kill it climb the ladder yeah and and there's we've we i've talked about on other podcasts of the curtain stuff on where you start the kids at and there's kids that maybe get ruined or their first years of just an absolute monster and everything and i mean i've also had my my buddy out of me i don't agree with that i don't agree with let him shoot a bang yeah and my my buddy adam always tells me he's like kids are the luckiest people in the world whenever he's taking them like going hunting everything with with his kids and his experiences and stuff but it's one of them things i'm like i'm i'm guilty of it and and my kids see it and like the deer we have mad and everything we'll watch a hunting show and like how look at that deer you know like that's a nice one he's like yeah but it's not really big and i'm like i'm like well you say that now but i said i feel like if i got if i is my my i'm hoping to take my son maybe next fall out deer hunting or whatever but i'm like i think if we got a bow in his hand or crossbow in his hand whatever it is i said we're gonna shoot the first year it comes out yeah like i don't care what it is if it's spike i mean first deer i shot had like seven-inch spikes on his head how do i kill a button head yeah yeah well i mean i i killed like one with spikes on his head is with a gun and then my first deer i shot with a bow was a button head and i'm like i was freaking huh exactly huh oh welcome and i still i mean depending on the situation i mean the the buck that i shot this year was kind of a mess i thought i made a bad shot on him and he stood there for a real long time and i didn't get to have that real big like you know he's down like yeah like i i i watch him fall right away yeah right now you see down yeah you see down and i'm i'm i mean i've i've filmed some of the stuff that i've done over the years and everything and i'm pretty i kind of lose my shit pretty good or i'll call the wife and everything and call my dad and i mean it's one of those things i you know the amount of work and and in preparation and time and the amount of passion that we have in it like i and i i mean i haven't talked to you after you killed your your gun or stuff it's like i'm like the the adrenaline dump and the relief that comes from the success that you have oh i say this holy shit i finally did it yeah yeah yeah and it's just the way to lift it off your shoulders or whatever i mean it makes you just want to freaking you know i don't care if you're a fucking hard-ass or not like makes you like almost want to bring tear to your eye oh well just because it i mean yeah i mean it's a hard thing i mean i don't care who you are at some point in your life i don't care how easy you got may think you had or the success you have at some point you're gonna struggle to be able to have that success and it'll make you appreciate a lot more whenever you do you know kill a deer or kill the deer year after whatever it is but i mean each one of those should be celebrated because it doesn't matter you only get to do this a few months of the year and you only get to kill so many deer in your lifetime and i've messed up god knows how many hunts or whatever just being an idiot learning things like that yep but it i mean those successes and stuff come so far few in between i mean you may get four or five i mean if you're lucky and you kill a lot of deer year you may kill four five six deer whatever it is okay straight into 65 days in a year so six times you got to you know have that experience i mean that's it's just one of those things they should be celebrated you should you know have that feeling i mean that's what we work for yeah well i mean you do all this work in preparation for 10 seconds yep yep but between the time that you you draw back you say you map his age you know and shoot and then watch him run off or hurt i mean it'll matter if it's a doe or a buck or whatever could you i will say this uh a big doe is just as hard to kill as a big buck you know yeah yeah yeah absolutely they're constantly looking for danger big buck don't care you know sometimes yeah there's at least a couple weeks of the year they don't give a shit yeah yeah they don't care they they submit they submit some difference but yeah yeah yeah yeah those those those those are god you kill you kill a mega doe there ain't nothing harder to kill than her guaranteed right like i had that no come out to me and i when i was like i need some camp meat yeah i want to shoot this deer and like i couldn't kill her all right i could have killed the 140 inch ten pointer that was standing under me at 18 yards but i couldn't shoot this seven and a half eight and a half year old doe right with their two little ones yeah but like like with our kids growing up man it's going to be it's going to be interesting like their life growing up because everything is just based off of comparison anymore right and you know and it was even whenever we grew up it was based off of comparison but it wasn't like you didn't know what i killed i didn't know what i killed you didn't have a facebook you didn't have instagram you have all this bullshit where it's like you hear you heard there was i grew up in a tiny ass town and there was a handful of guys that hunted besides me but there was always you know those couple kids or whatever that always killed a good deer every year seemed like um and i went like i like i said i went years without killing it here and it was one of the things it's like it was really a you know a downer or whatever and you know my dad's like why has this guy shooting a buck and i can't yeah and my dad my dad's most positive damn person in the world and so he's like i just keep it he's like you're gonna get one like you're gonna you know eventually he's like it's gonna happen and it did but it it and it made it honestly more sweet because i have such a bigger appreciation for every damn deer that i killed just because i had all those struggles and everything and again i you want to spoil your kids you want them to you know hey i'm gonna take them out the best times of the year i'm gonna have them you know we're gonna sit in a box hopefully a box one ends will be right we're gonna see a bunch of deer perfect yeah but at the same time i was kind of happy that it took us a few times sitting on the blind and things like that because even they would say i'd ask them like hey you want to go and they're like i don't know and i'm like if you don't want to go we're gonna go like i i'm not gonna force you to go i mean dad dad's gonna go and they love it like my son's the same way whenever when my dad gels a deer or even my daughter every time i go go out hunting when i get home do you get one do you bring me home one and i disappoint them all the time like i don't even know like probably 90 percent of the time i disappointed but at one time or i do get to bring a bug home and or even a doe and they get to go out and you know and see it and you know pet it or whatever like check everything out or my son gets up he's big on holding antlers and stuff like yours he he wants to hear i want to picture holding antlers and stuff like that my daughter too i mean that's worth it everything all hands down dude and it's it's up to us you know any more because we we're the age now to where we'll have those kids starting hunting you know and and you know with my kids like i'm not going to force on them you know and like my boy my five-year-old he's just he loves the fact of hunting you know or hunting you know he loves that but the thing is is he's just so like distracted right but in some many other avenues now my two-year-old oh buddy we don't watch bluey we don't watch bubble guppies we don't watch SpongeBob we watch deer hunting yeah i mean like we was face-timer not and i had to show him every day you had in the house like deer deer deer big buck deer deer deer deer and that's so like and i like they grew up around it i know i know they're going to hunt they're going to kill some deer and it's just it's just going to be hard you know not to force them on it because everything is so forced on kids nowadays and that's kind of what makes it up in the push to be it like younger and younger like i said i was eleven twelve whatever it was whenever we were able to we used to have to you had to take your hundred safety course before you could ever hunt like now in Illinois you can be like an apprentice for like so many years where your dad 16 where your dad like watches in or whatever whatever else and so the understanding isn't quite i mean there's a hell of a job like i said my son is pumped about wanting to go out and trying to deer hunt everything he understands you know what kind of goes into it and everything like hey you're taking a life and and stuff like that but um you don't want to push it on them too hard because you want them to be out there you you don't and again being out there isn't easy like i said you you want to try to make it to where it's enjoyable for them well they want to go back and they want to be go back out there and do it again no that's the biggest thing is you know making it making a hopefully a positive experience one way or the other like hey we had a good time we went hung out you have to go hang out with dad and we get to have a conversation we get to have you know snacks whatever you just go out here and have guy time you know whatever it is yeah pop-up weights yeah you got a grandpa with you and stuff like that we made it a big deal um or you know i feel like there's a lot of kids that probably have a rougher go of it and then it ruins them i mean oh yeah i'm sure i'm sure it happens yeah i mean well you either you're going to ruin your kids by never letting them see anything or letting them shoot the every big deer that you got right and like people can hate me for saying this but i don't agree with the people that let their kids shoot their big deer yeah i don't i don't i just because like nowadays with everything being a comparison like oh yeah i'm i killed bigger deer than you every year well when they're 12 years old and they've killed like back in north calana they're 12 years old and they've killed three eight pointers that are 115 to 130 inches you're like i mean what do you what do you do in that situation you know like what they only want to go up from there you know me i shot a button head i was looking for a spike yeah or i was looking for a four point i was looking with something with like a six-pointer with some horns or hell i was even looking to shoot a doe because i killed three bucks before i shot my first doe yeah and like that's what i looked that's what i looked for too like it was a heartbeat that something like a shoot at just try to stop that heartbeat you know and then and nowadays like it's gonna be tough yeah and then and it's even going to be more tough for the generation like even after our kids you know because like the things that are done now there's more big bucks around than everywhere absolutely and so now you've got it's it's hard as shit to draw an hour that it's it's expensive as hell right and so like my kid like when i grew up hunting dude i could hunt so many places yeah or mission ground that my dad got i still got the permission slips it's tough like anymore right if you're not paying to play and so my kids they're going to have a tough time growing up because they're going to know well if i'm not shooting big deer i'm not a good hunter right and and you hate you hate to hate it that it comes down to that shit because at the end of the day and i don't give a shit like if you kill if you kill a hundred a hundred inch buck or you kill a hundred and eight-inch buck then a day if you're happy with what you killed that's all the fucking matter doesn't make you a better there than the next guy that's all it matters as i say doesn't make you better this guy no i don't like you were just as happy as that guy that killed that hundred and eighty as the hundred and ten inch deer that you killed like kill what makes you fucking happy but also at the end of the day don't fucking run down that guy that is happy as hell about his 110 because hey well should have let it go another buck in three years because it'd actually be something decent or whatever it's like that guy tripped his trigger and he fucking killed it so it i mean he hopefully is happy about what he actually harvested i 100 because that shit fucking kills me yeah and it never fails there's always that that's all i don't know 90% of shows for me it seems like that's what it is depending on the groups of shits as you're in is here here's the deer i killed yep would have been bigger next year and i mean i'm i'm amongst buddies and shit we joke around and show me that i told you you're a 160 boy if you do it yeah like he's he's absolutely giant they're like man he's standing there on his lips but yeah but a bit but it would give him next year and i just fucking with you yeah i was gonna say it's different between friends and stuff that like you know you're joking around but at the end of the day it's don't be a dick don't be a dick especially in and that's the biggest thing especially with these kids and stuff is they see it they see it they see how you are and they expect like oh that's what i got back like and that's what i got to say yeah because it's like well yeah that's i think that that get of a buck or i can't believe that somebody would have shot that or hey yeah some people some people don't give a shit we talked about it like they're depending on the tv shows and shit like you watch there's some guys out there that'll give a shit yeah like hey that's a good looking deer i'm gonna shoot it they don't care if it's a hundred hundred and ten inch deer they don't care if it's a hundred and eighty inch why do you think the hunt in public was so popular yeah because dude they're showing what the everyday hunter right get to hunt yep and they kill her in good bucks sometimes some giants right and you're fucking pumped for me yeah like i'll say this okay and like i i hate even saying this because it sounds like i'm too marlin horn but i actually listened to the podcast not too long ago where Doug was talking about his buck and he killed and then he was like yeah i called jordan and his emotions like out of this world like you would have thought he had a shot the deer i'm like but i don't if he had to call me he said he shot a hundred twenty inch eight pointer yeah i'm fucking pumped man you know you took a life right you took a life like if you're a christian person you believe in lord yeah you took one of lord's creations and you made it yours like you like that's your deer right you claim that right and again like we said earlier like you get to experience this yourself in person if you're lucky like five or six times a year if you don't live vicariously through your fucking buddies oh yeah like like if you take that much fucking like excitement and everything i'm just i'm the same way like when whenever fucking kody killed this year kody and i killed the exact same night at it and he fucking like sandbags the shit out out of me whenever and he's like no did you shoot tonight i'm like yeah he's like oh so did i i'm like you motherfucker i'm like what the hell why didn't you let me know why why do you tell like i immediately called and texted her about it like hey this what happened blah blah blah and he didn't say shit but if you don't live in and my buddy ryan like he lives all right ryan rennels ryan rennels he is ryan rennels he is he is the prettiest mother ever saying a lot he is he is damn pretty for sure he's supposed to be here to not yeah asshole yeah not a few listeners i'm still mad at you yep me too me too for a lot of things but anyway uh no but he lives an hour and a half away from here back in our hometown and uh i still get over there and hunt quite a bit whatever i can but a couple of the last big deer that he's killed i'm like hey i'm like he'd shoot him he could he texted me like dude don't move i'm like i'm coming he's like where are you at i'm like i'm 45 minutes away like i don't care i'm still kind of there like my dad my my dad's like my dad's i don't know i don't even know how many last couple deer that he's killed i'm like he's an hour and a half away from here i'm coming it doesn't matter and he's like well he's like oh no i'll get it i'm like no you ain't i'm like because i'm gonna come see that deer before anything happens and i want to put my hands on it before it and because you only get to live that so many times a year and the wife she loves it because i'm out and leaving from the woods or wherever i'm at to drive three hours to go see a deer or whatever but sharing those experiences and stuff you only get to do it so many times a year you get to do it a such a short window if you if you're not that our whole passion our whole you know what drew us together and everything is that is that passion if we're not going to share that with people from i mean across states and everything else i mean that adds to the excitement and the entire season is sharing that with multiple people hundred percent and and if you're not gonna if you're not gonna you know grow your group so that you can continue to um experience it more and more because like last year wc wcb crew killed like freaking 15 bucks and like six six seven he was insane it was ridiculous like october what the twenty six to november the third yeah and it was it was disheartening the shit because i didn't get one and i was i wasn't a part of the crew but it was like you everybody it was like freaking i'm like every damn day it's like oh here's two that got killed here's three here's another one it's like i feel like i'm screwing up right now like i'm not in the woods i'm at work or whatever it is but like the excitement of everybody being able to help here's you know help just shot one all right let us know what happened okay another like 20 minutes later all right what are you gonna do or you're gonna wait like pins and needles oh i want them i want to see it i want to go on the blood trail i want to go i want to be a part of it and and you are i mean a little bit a part of it and again social media sucks but at the same time you get to share that through all that crap as well like you see that picture posted on Instagram but like you know like on the back end like i knew it happened as soon as a half and you know like it seems it happened yeah like i've always like man i'll say this man we're gonna close this out here just a second because we got to get to bed we got a five-hour drive to the morning in the morning listen if you're going to be a buddy right be a buddy that you wish you had 100 so like if you like thought like man if i shot this deer right now who would show up for me yep and this is like a life lesson i was just like a buddy like that it's just a human being in person exactly in general for sure absolutely just just be the guy like like okay chris jay you call me and say you shot the biggest buck of your life or you shot a spike i don't give a shit i'm reacting reacting so much like yeah dude you just shot a shot yeah yeah baby because you wish that's what you had in your life yeah right yeah and not now it's organic from me because i like i i get pumped up one day you're positive as well for sure yeah i get i get pumped up with it because i just i want i want you to know that i am but i've got your ass you know i i'm there for you and like where do you have i know your 12 hours from me chris but i'll be there i'll be there by tomorrow right i'll do what i got to do if you got shoot him don't track him till i get there you know but but like be the buddy that you wish you had yep and then you will start to gain that and that's why i got so drawn into the wcb crew because man i i caught everybody from wcb crew they're like oh hell yeah dude that's freaking pumped up yeah that's like that's that's freaking awesome i love this shit i'm like dude like that that's what i've been looking for right you know and i caught on my close buddies mom they were all the same but dude i want to call everybody that's jacked up for me but i killed the biggest deer in my life you know yeah but i mean just if you take any way thing away from from this podcast like the get you kids i turned hunting let them watch SpongeBob let them eat snacks let them get cold you know if the deer walks out and they want to watch SpongeBob and instead of you shooting the deer then whatever you know don't force them into it and then if you buddy calls you be jacked up it don't matter what side deer it is and don't worry about social media 100% so dude i'm i'm fucking tired i'm sleepy yeah we've yeah we've been going a little over let's see here about an hour and 15 minutes so i think it's a bit good that's about right absolutely absolutely i appreciate you having me on i'm excited for this thing to uh uh take off because i would uh i'm damn confident that it's just gonna fucking skyrocket that's what i'm hoping man like i mean yeah whenever kirk gave me an opportunity i was like dude this is a whole entire network that we're gonna tap into and and here's the cool thing kody ain't with me i've got free microphones with me there you go and we're traveling together so you're gonna be a guest host on the next couple i mean i was texting i'm looking for hey i'm sorry kody i'm gonna need that little percentage back here from the so i guess uh yeah yeah kody yeah sorry sorry we're going to pay him for he's gonna get some residuals yeah there you go we're going to buy me at least a beer too but yeah i'll buy i'll cover it kody kody i'll be in the request you yeah but like i mean try to do like while i'm up here and i would like to do like maybe two or three maybe even four podcasts if possible yep um like i was texting eric i was texting eric i was like dude i want to get you on yeah i just you it's a good dude yeah yeah absolutely yeah get eric on he's like hell yeah let's do it tomorrow night so yeah so we'll just we're gonna go drink beer the aisle classic i'm looking forward to it maybe do a follow-up podcast afterwards you're gonna have a good time let me ask you to you that's what i was gonna say like what is there to expect coming up well i would say this when we're going to wrap this up yeah what what can i go in and expect i'll say so coming from Illinois um i've been to i've been to some big uh Illinois Illinois whenever the Illinois deer classic was this was a thing that was huge growing up we went to it all the time i i've been to the Wisconsin shows as well Iowa was a completely different animal just because i mean Iowa now especially is the mecca i mean that's where that's where all the biggest deer are killed the biggest names of the industry name and industry all live around the Iowa area because they can get a tag there if they live there and so you got all the biggest names in industry there's that show is enormous and and it's just i mean it's a great time it is a great time and it's shoulder to shoulder every damn day there and just randomly you're seeing some of the biggest names in industry just walking through the crowd just coming up and saying hey and and moving on i mean it is a it is a hell of a good time um i'm gonna feel like a small fish in a big pond trying to promote this podcast of the working class guys i got a pretty smile and i have a hell of a personality that's the only thing i got going for me yeah yeah i mean you mean it's pretty as Ryan but i mean you're right there for sure listen i i don't like that be the friend that you want your buddies yes yeah okay i am as pretty as Ryan because he's not here right now like he was supposed to be a hole for Ryan yep yep no it's gonna be a great time i guarantee you um you're as charismatic and stuff as you are you're gonna be super well accepted and uh i i got a feeling that uh
