- Hey everybody, welcome to COS. Thank you, worship team, that was really powerful. I'm Tom and lead pastor here, and we are super glad you're with us today. Special day, as you can see over here, we're gonna start our local missions initiative, sea love serve, which is gonna be a monthly thing, so we'll talk a little bit more about that, but we're also continuing our series on the Sabbath, I call it a better rhythm. And Sabbath is a fancy word that we saw last week, and it really just means stop. It just means stop, cease, end, finish. And over time, it gathered a lot more meaning, and it could mean things like rest, it could mean refreshment, but the most important part of Sabbath is stop. And because when we stop, God has the power and can do amazing transformative things through us. And that is critical, not just for like ancient people, as we'll see, it's critical for us today, maybe even in some ways more critical. And the reason for that is because even though we are, we live in America, we have freedom to do what we like for the most part, we are still constantly trying to be enslaved. And the Sabbath is a reminder for us, and when I say Sabbath, I don't necessarily mean Sunday, we'll talk a little bit about the rhythm of Sabbath and how it doesn't have to be like this or that, but the rhythm of stopping is what prevents us from going back to slavery. We are, that's the title of this message, no longer slaves, and it is a better rhythm of Sabbath that reminds us of that. And the reason we have to know that, and the reason it's so important for us to think about slaves and slavery is because that's Israel's origin story, okay? And what is a slave? If nothing else, a slave is somebody who never stops. A slave is somebody who's master, whatever or whoever that master is, says you will never ever stop. It never ends. You will continue in what I tell you to do forever until the day you die. The first thing I want you to take away and hold fast is this, slaves never stop, and you are not a slave. To show you how the Bible thinks about this and how it connects the idea of Sabbath
