Super excited to be with you today. I'm Tom lead pastor here and today we're starting a new series called a better rhythm and The reason we're one of the reasons we're doing that is because we are about to enter Most of us what most Americans say is the busiest time of the year the the time of year That is the most stressful and and the craziest and that is the holiday season it's really once Labor Day happens kids are back in school and then we you know get ready for all the festivities and all the things of Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas new years and all the stuff that comes with it. It is it is a time of exhaustion It's a time of happiness lots of highs lots of lows For those who experienced lows, there's some of the lowest and for those who experienced the highs are some of the highest The Bible suggests to us that the way we are to face life is in a particular rhythm and When we put that into Practice and today we're gonna I'm gonna challenge all of us to do that to begin doing that we are going to see that the highs Become maybe not as as crazy. The lows become way more sustainable we become people that are Steady we become people of peace people of joy people of gratitude All if we just try to be a little bit more like God himself And so this week week one the first thing we all need to know is this stop Stop And when I say that I I want to let you know that sooner or later you're gonna have to stop We hope that it's later But it might be sooner we don't know because we don't know how the world works but at some point or another you will be completely stopped and When that happens in all likelihood, I will be saying something I Will be giving a eulogy for you You see at the end of this life
You will stop and we will gather and we will look back at who you were and We will say a few things to be honest with you one of my favorite parts of the celebration of life or or funerals I know it's weird to say my favorite part, but it's part of the job and if I may People pass and it's it's it's not fun But there is something really powerful and really beautiful about it and my favorite part is the eulogy Eulogy is Greek. It means good word or good speech and the eulogy is when we look at a person's life And we kind of sum up their character We sum up their projects the things that they did their way that they grew up We we a lot of times have to acknowledge some really deep challenges and difficulties But then we also get to see how the arc of that life impacted the world around them their families and there is nothing better than being able to give a truly good word About somebody who's no longer with us until the resurrection of the dead There are times though when the eulogy isn't as good as I would like There are times when honestly, it's kind of tragic
where we look at the the arc of someone's life and Often with Circumstances that weren't in their control a lot of times in circumstances that were absolutely in their control We can see the way that the life did not turn out the way that maybe even God wanted it to be And that is a really awkward position for all of us to be in because no one wants to speak ill of the dead at the same time When we give a good word a eulogy, it's a true word
