the end of our Failing Forward series. So I'm Tom and Lead Pastor here at Coast. We're glad you're here. If you're just joining us, we are ending a series in the Old Testament called Failing Forward. And it's a series about the life of Moses. We've done a lot with life, Moses. And one thing that I want to emphasize is that Moses is this larger than life figure. And he's one of the great leaders of Israel. And yet when you look at his life, when you see what it was, it was a series of failures. It was a series of falls. It was a series of a guy who just did not have it figured out. And what we've seen is that despite that, God always finds a way to move Moses and us forward. We get to see that we too are going to be like Moses. We are going to have all kinds of mistakes and awful things that we've done that have been done to us. We are going to fall again and again. And yet we have God's faithfulness. He's not going to leave us in the dirt. He's not going to leave us bleeding and alone. He's going to pick us up and he's going to move us forward. And today we're going to close with the last and most consequential of Moses's mistakes. I say the most consequential because with this mistake, with this failure, Moses, there are consequences that he absolutely cannot change and that are going to crush his heart a little bit. And I want to suggest that it's not just Moses. It's not just him. It's us too. It might not be our own failure, although most often it is. It might be the failure of someone else. But I need you to take this away. And it's this some things you can't take back. Some things you can't take back. In the interest of time, I'm just going to summarize what happened. I promise you in the podcast this week, I will lay out the contours of how it happened, why it happened, how it has parallels. And the past in Moses, I'm going to, I will do a deep dive into what happened. But let me just give you the sketch here because what we're really interested is in how God moves Moses forward, how he responds, not in how he fell. So what happened was the people of Israel were complaining yet again. After years and years in the desert of Moses leading them of God providing them, they go to Moses and they're whining and they're complaining and he loses it. He goes before God and he's like, "God, they're thirsty now.
