- We are finishing our Christmas series today, where the world rejoices. And today is how near, how far. And if you're like me, you remember back in the day and youth, it's important for you to be here. You need to know how difficult it used to be. When we had to go places, my parents insisted that we drive. We always drove. And they always insisted that we drive someplace very, very far away. And so, I, that's good. And so I grew up, my Christmas is, we're spent at my grandparents' ranch up in Northeastern California. And to give you an idea of how large this state is, it would take between 10 and 13 hours for us to drive to that ranch, where we didn't have any internet. There was barely any music. The TV was sketchy, and the cow smelled very bad. I actually really enjoyed these trips. The only thing I couldn't stand about them was the waiting, and how long it took to get where we were going. My dad, he was a pilot in the Air Force during Vietnam, and he also was like in the YMCA, I think, when he was a younger man. And so, he was a big fan of maps and finding ways to places, and locating cool things to see. And so, I remember one place we would almost always stop. On the way up to my grandparents' ranch was a plaque, commemorating the Donner party. Yeah, the Donner party. So, he'd get there, and he'd be like, "Look, it's the Donner party, a plaque." And like, "Okay, there's a little plaque on the side." Or, I think it was a 395, just a lonely road. And it just commemorated the fact that a few people made it after going through a horrible, and he thought that was incredible. I didn't quite get it, but I guess it gave us an excuse to stop and rest for a minute. But like many of you, maybe you said the same thing, especially you youth, that I used to say, which is how much longer, how far is it? How much longer, how far is it? We're gonna look at the Magi today in Matthew two. And so, I invite you to read with me.
