Welcome to Coast Battle Church. I'm Tom and lead pastor here. We are in the second week of our Christmas series, "The Weary World Rejoices." On this week we're talking about kindred spirits, among other things, the title of the series comes from "O Holy Night," which I believe we'll sing at the end of the service. And it's preceded in the song by "A Thrill of Hope." I said last week, if you ask me how I'm doing on a regular basis, my goal is to say, "Can't complain." What my heart is usually thinking is, "I'm tired," in one way or another. A lot of times I'm tired emotionally or psychologically, sometimes spiritually, sometimes just physically. Maybe you're like me, sometimes you feel like you're on this journey in life, and there's all these things, and you're not quite sure what the next steps are. You think you maybe have an idea of where you're supposed to go, what you're supposed to do, but you're not quite sure. And worst of all, in the midst of that, you feel deeply alone. There's a sense that nobody quite gets it. That you're fulfilling these roles and you're doing these things, but is this really what God wants? And how would I know? And why do I feel so alone? Well, that's actually the Christmas story. Like your story, if you resonate with that, is exactly what the Christmas story tells us. I want to draw your attention to Luke 1 starting in verse 39, and this is the common English Bible version. We read this. Mary said, "I am the Lord's servant. Let it be with me just as you have said." Then the angel left her. What's just happened is that the angel has come and said, "Hey, Mary, you're going to have a baby, even though you're a virgin, which is impossible. And also, you know, he's going to save the world. And also, you're a cousin, Elizabeth. He was way too old to have children. She's pregnant because with God nothing is impossible." And so Mary says, "Let it be." Mary got up and hurried to a city in the Judean Highlands. She entered Zachariah's home and greeted Elizabeth when Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting.
