Hi, I'm Tom and Lee Pastor here at Coast and we are super glad you're with us. We're continuing a series that we've been doing for several weeks now. It's called The Lifeboat. And the basis of the series is kind of a way of thinking about why we're here and what we're doing. And the basic kind of narrative or the story that we've been telling is it's like this, it's for most of your life, or at least some of it, you were on what we've been calling the cruise ship. And that is a place where all of the answers to your questions, they all make sense. You know what your position, your role is, and you're just on the ride. And so for some of us, we're born in a situation where we're down at the bottom of the cruise ship and we're shoveling coal like in Titanic to keep the thing running. We don't have a lot of resources, but we do maybe have some community and we know what our job is, and maybe we have dreams someday like Jack Dawson is it, in Titanic of being in that lower area and rising up to the top. Some of us, like me, were born on second or third base. And so we've experienced a lot of, you know, like physical material blessings. And we enjoy the buffet at the cruise ship and all of the luxuries that come with it. And basically we just don't, all of major questions in our life are just kind of answered, we're just doing what we do, right? And at some point, on iceberg hits the boat, the Titanic runs aground and we find ourselves just cast off drowning in the water. And maybe that iceberg is some, you know, the results, the consequences of things that we've done to ourselves or others, maybe we've been living in a way that is wrong and we find ourselves like, ah, and we're drowning in a disaster of our own making. Sometimes it's different. Sometimes it's something was done to us. Maybe we didn't know why it happened, but something came along and it damaged us a lot to the point where we are just confused and lost and we don't know what life's about anymore. We don't know why what's happening. All we know is that we're drowning. And in that moment, a hand comes into the water, the hand of Jesus and pulls us out of that situation of drowning, whether it's caused by our own actions or the actions of others or some combination of the two, but pulls us out from the water away from the ship that has sunk and into the lifeboat. And the lifeboat is a fresh and different way of doing life. It's different, a different kind of existence. And we said first, when you get into the, when you've been pulled into the lifeboat, the first thing you need to do is dry off and acclimate to, oh, you've got all this baggage that's come with you. You're wet, you're shivering, and the church here, the lifeboat has a way of drying you off and getting you safe and secure again. And once that's happened, the next thing that you do is you need to get fed because you've been subsisting, we said without milk, we talked about what Peter says about the pure milk of the word and how that nourishes us and gets us to a place where we are able to function again, where we have strength and power, and we saw that that is primarily or begins at least with the teachings of Jesus, we looked last week at how we can jump into again for some of us, and maybe for the first time for some of us, the teachings of Jesus starting with the server on the mountain, how it turns everything upside down, it wrecks
