We're doing a series it's the not series So it's something not something this week. It's forgiven not furious and This this is inspired my friend Mike he he and I write sermons together and and they've been doing something a little different They're in a little different context, but so I'm a kind of adapting his ideas Because and then it's relevant because we are in a time of a lot of anger to still this this particular one this a lot of anger a lot of Just I don't know. I'm tired of it. I'm tired of being angry to be honest with you And I know that there's you know, there's two different types of anger So I I want to make sure that we're not we know what we're talking about here and and the first type of anger is Anger that's righteous righteous anger, you know anger that happens because Because something something has happened that is not right to usually to someone else or somebody Maybe you don't even know and so you look at that type of anger and you're like yeah I mean you look at what happened to them and there's a sense of like where's the justice God? That I'm not talking about that and you're gonna see that in the text today We're not that's not the thing we're talking about what we're talking about is the kind of anger that that permeates it that pervades our everyday life And I for me personally I I don't think of myself as an angry person, right? I think if myself is kind of easy-going lay it back. I let things go, which is true I'm not by nature a grudge holder by nature I'm just kind of like oh well, you know that happened and I have the moment of like a but then but then I'm like Oh, well, if I just do something that I enjoy, you know, then I'll be fine. I'll be good and And and that's kind of like it's like a cope of sorts and that's kind of the way I've operated But over time. I've just noticed that I personally I it's so odd to me How easy it is for me to get, you know, mad irritated For me to this it why you know, this is the way things ought to be. Why aren't they that way? And not just with you know politics or what's happening in the world, but just in my own sphere with people that I love And it's so exhausting, you know, the studies are in and it turns out anger is not good for you Anger is a way to an early grave. We know that One of the other reasons I need to stop, you know having anger is because I'm on blood pressure medication now And so I can I can feel it happen where when something goes wrong I can actually feel part of my the beauty of my anxiety disorders like I feel my chest get tight So I can actually feel most people can't feel their blood pressure. I can feel it rising You might think that you do but typically you don't And then I was thinking that how awesome would it be To be at peace Even when things don't go right This is Matthew 5 And Jesus is commenting on the law of Moses the Ten Commandments He says this you have heard that it was said to those who lived long ago Don't commit murder and all who commit murder will be in danger of judgment But I say to you that everyone who is angry with their brother or sister will be in danger of judgment If they say to their brother or sister you idiot It's like a numb school you numb school You idiot they will be in danger moron They'll be in danger of being condemned by the governing council if they say you fool Stupid they will be in danger of fiery hell Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you
