All right. Welcome, co-spiable. It's so awesome to be back up here. So awesome to see you guys. The message today is called waiting on you. A couple weeks ago, Tom started a marriage series that we're really excited to go through, but I was like, you know what, the marriage for a few years. I know a little bit about marriage, so maybe I'll try my hand at that. So that's what I'm going to be doing today. So he started with a passage in Genesis, and he was talking about, you know, that male and female are men for each other. And in Genesis 2, 18, it says, "The Lord God said it is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a helper fit for him." Now, imagine God decided that after Adam tried to cook a meal for himself and almost burned down the garden. Now, imagine that's how quick that happened, but no, I don't think it was that quick, but give us a little more credit, right? But I imagine when that moment occurred, I bet it looked at the moment that he met Eve for the first time after being alone all that time. And guys like their alone time to a point, and I imagine the moment he saw Eve for the first time, they'll probably look something like this. This really excited, it was very, very excited.
But so we obviously need each other. The Bible is incredibly clear about that. And I think even those who maybe aren't versed in the Bible, who haven't been living that Christian life, they come to that same conclusion. It doesn't take us that long to realize that, gosh, there are just some things I'm not really good at. If only there was someone there to help me, right? It's almost as if our shortcomings are our spouse's strengths. And one of their strengths also is pointing out our shortcomings. It's crazy how effective they are at that. So we know that to be the case. For example, I can come up here and preach a sermon, and that scares my wife. She literally left the room. She was so scared. No, she's with Jackson. But that is scary, right? That can be very scary. Public speaking can be very scary. And for some reason for me, it's not so much. But just having a general idea of where things are and where I left things, that's incredibly difficult for me. Managing a schedule is not a spiritual gift of mine. So I'm so grateful that God found someone that was perfectly suited to kind of help in all the areas that I'm lacking. And I think there's probably some of us in this room that can relate to that. Help so. Just me? Okay. So but in Proverbs, let's look at Proverbs says. So King Solomon wrote some incredible one-liners, as I like to call them. Proverbs is one of those books. It's so awesome because you can literally just pluck one line out and it like stands alone. It's literally this gem of wisdom because he was gifted with all this wisdom from God when he asked for it. And Proverbs 31-10 says, "An excellent wife who can find she is far more precious than jewels." I had to learn this the hard one, guys. I had to learn this the hard one. Took me about 10 years and but we made it. We made it. No? Okay. I had to learn the hard way but it was better late than never for sure. So it's incredibly hard but some of us get incredibly lucky or that's actually a word that I kind of took out of my vocabulary since I became a Christian. I'm no longer lucky. I'm just blessed because it's not happenstance. It's not coincidence. It's not any of that as to how God worked everything in my life for good and how despite everything I had done, the way I was living and just almost running away from God in reality, he still gives me the greatest gift that I could ever imagine, which is my wife and now and now our child. So the Bible says it's incredibly hard to find a good one but what happens when we somehow manage that? Because I think there's been a lot of us in this room that have somehow, by the grace of God, have found an excellent woman or an excellent spouse. So what does the world say, right? What does the world say as to how we go about prolonging that relationship, right? Being worthy of it and just finding joy in it. Well, one of the most cliche, but effective lines you'll ever hear is happy wife, happy life. And I actually looked it up. It came out in like 1903 or something. It's been around that long and it just stuck because, I mean, it might as well be in the book of Proverbs. It's that good, right? It'd be one of the shorter Proverbs in there. Happy wife, happy life. It is very, very true. But what does Proverbs actually say? This is kind of on the flip side of it. So in Proverbs 21, 3, it says it is better to live in a corner of the house top than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife. Okay. All right. So it's incredibly hard to find an excellent wife. And in some cases, you might be better off living on the corner of a house top than the house
