Hey welcome welcome we're kind of getting to the end of our series made for adventure Maybe one more week, but it's been so fun. Like I say this. I feel like every series. I'm like, I wish it would never end It's just been so cool to see the way that God is calling us as people not to live boring lives but to live lives that are exciting and wild and made for eternity and
Yeah, we're gonna hit that just a couple of things before we start Not only I just want to keep you updated because not only is Mike Harrison Doug mentioned going in for knee surgery on Tuesday's or a Wednesday the 20 the 18th 16 Also Linda Daugherty in the back. She's had some major eye issues and she's also gonna be Getting surgery. So it's the same day, right? Like everyone. Yeah, so well, maybe we can send an email And just and just be praying praying for that As that happens and then the other thing - it was how great was it to meet a little bit of some of our Jesus film Missionaries, that was really cool And then to hear like that even now, you know going out into villages in in Muslim majority countries and and having an impact for Jesus Like that's so rad. So that was really cool But also today here for a board meeting for Camp Allendale is Robin Wood the co-founder of Camp Allendale He's right there member of Coast Bible Church many years many years ago and then went and And put his faith into action and has been blessing Kids and in foster care for many many years for the gospel. So good to have you Robin. Oh And then and then and yeah, you're buying a new property because the old one got destroyed by a flood Not like and then so now we have a better one. That's awesome. So praise God for that. That's that's pretty rad All right, let's with that. Let's jump into Acts 11 really cool text so much here And I just want to pull out some things now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed We'll talk about that in a second. We talked about a little bit last week But I'll remind you traveled as far as Phoenicia Cyprus and Antioch Spreading the word only among Jews some of them however men from Cyprus and Cyrene went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks Also, and I'll explain what that means telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus and yeah And the Lord's hand was with them a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord News of this reached the church in Jerusalem and they sent Barnabas So we met him last week talk a little bit about that to Antioch when he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done He was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord of all their hearts He was a good man full of the Holy Spirit and faith and a great number of people were brought to the Lord Then then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul and again We talked about him last week Saul becomes Paul We talked about his conversion and when he found him when he found Saul He brought him to Antioch so for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch if you remember they were members of the way the right way Not the wrong way go back to coastpawel.org check out our YouTube channel for last week sermon to find out more about that But now there be calling being called Christians followers of Christ the Messiah of Israel Jesus During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch one of them named Agabus Stood up and through the Holy Spirit predicted a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world This happened during the reign of Claudius. This is true by the way We know this from the the Jewish writer Josephus. He talks about this famine. It happened in AD 46 So this is 16 years 16 13 16 years 15 years ish after Jesus is raised from the dead and ascends to heaven Okay, we know when this took place. It's just it's less than two decades after Jesus rose from the dead and went into Heaven and and waits there to return to us the disciples as each one was able decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea this they did sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul Okay Well, there's a lot going on here
