Well we're continuing our series made for adventure and this today mid for adventure we're designed by God to be people who step out who go on the road and our faith journey is it's not supposed to be boring it is supposed to be amazing it's supposed to be incredible as we see new things and receive new insights and the Bible is very clear about this the Bible has so many different stories about how when people step out of their comfort zone God invades God gets involved and that's why we're made for adventure that's how we grow and so today we're looking at a text and this text is so rich we could we could spend weeks months on just this this story there's so much here but what we're gonna do those we're gonna take what's called a meta look at it we're gonna see how this story shapes the way that the Bible thinks about adventure about going on the road about stepping out of our comfort zone okay so we're gonna take it chunk by chunk we're gonna get all the text but we're gonna do we're not gonna read the whole thing up front because it's kind of long so let's let's jump in this is the road to a mess now that same day what day this is the day that the the tomb was empty the third day the Jesus resurrection okay it's the it's that day and we've got two disciples here one we learn his name is Clampus they met the women who saw the empty tomb and they're wondering what's going on okay and so we don't know why but they're gonna take of they're gonna go to a village called Emmaus about seven miles from Jerusalem they're getting away from Jerusalem for a night just to check things out as they talked and discussed these things the things that they're wow what's going on the is the tombs empty we have friends who thought but we didn't see Jesus and as they talked and discussed these things with each other Jesus himself came up and walked along with them but they were kept from recognizing him when the Bible uses the passive tense were kept that usually means God is doing something so you could read that as God kept them from recognizing him he asked them what what are you discussing together as you walk along and they stood still their faces downcast one of them named Clampus asked are you the only one visiting Jerusalem he does not know the things that have happened there in these days now I have that that text that they're highlighted because what's happening is is these guys they're getting out of their normal existence in Jerusalem as disciples following you and they're and they're going off they're going on the road it the the village is close seven miles they can get there they can stay there they can come back they're having like a little overnighter as it were and the reason they're doing that is because they're confused and they're wondering what's going on I don't know if you saw Ironman I have a picture here of Ironman this is with Tony Stark at the beginning of the first Ironman 2008 he's a he's showing off his explosive his company built or something like that if you're looking in the background though do you notice anyone know where this was filmed anyone know it's actually kind of local it's a place called the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine they were no Lone Pine central California a little bit of a drive from here I have a picture of the of the town this is Lone Pine kind of interesting a little it has kind of a throwback flavor because Hollywood has been filming movies there since the 1920s it's it's on the same day if you travel from Lone Pine you can get to Mount Whitney which is the tallest place in California maybe the country I don't know and then Death Valley which is the lowest place in the country it's very odd it's centrally located and it's not too far from here you can get here in Days Drive and in fact I used to do this when I was a kid random if from my perspective it was random my dad would be like hey Tom we're gonna go for three days to Lone Pine and we would stay at this motel this is the portal motel it's not much their bed shower what was actually going on is my mom is an accountant and during tax season she was very very busy and she was miserable because I would bother her and so what my dad my dad was a teacher and so I would bother her the most on spring break which always fell right before April 15th and so she's trying to get all the taxes done and here I am you know nagging her and trying to get her to play with me and so my dad was like we've got to fix this problem

On the road, GOD give us space to think and consider. GOD opens our eyes and we do not walk along
