- Well, welcome, welcome. That's a little clip from Lord of the Rings kind of introduced our brand new series for the fall, Made for Adventure Life as a Journey with God. One of the things if you kind of look at the Bible from the very beginning all the way to the end, one thing comes up over and over and over, and that is the theme of journeying, of adventuring, of being on the road. And one of the things that we find is that if we are on the road, and maybe that's metaphorically, we're not literally out on the road, but if we're on an adventure, that's when God gets in and does crazy wild things. And so for the next few weeks, we're just gonna be looking at some of the ways that God intervenes with us when we get out and get onto the road, and maybe some tips for living in a way that we can participate in God's plan and his transformation. So before we do that, I'd like to ask a question. And that is this, is Satan winning? This year we've had a mass shooting, by the way, is to find as a shooting where there's three or more victims. And so far in this year, we've had 432 in the United States of America. 572 people killed, 1,755 wounded. In the decade of 1980 to 1990, there were eight incidents like that. Here's another interesting fact. In 2022, we don't have the data yet for 2023 and 24, but 40% of children in the United States were born to single mothers. In 1980, it was 18.4%. Another sobering fact. In 2022, 49,476 Americans died by suicide. In 1980, it was less than 30,000. And last. In 2022, 1.2 million people were incarcerated, put in prison. In 1980, that number was 329,000. (people chattering) Is Satan winning? And is there any hope? I believe there is. And let's see, in Luke 10, what God has to say, what Jesus has to say about the future. After this referring to actually the transfiguration, Jesus goes onto a mountaintop and he is revealed in all of his glory.
