- Well, hey, I'm Pastor Tom, and we are super glad you're here. We're continuing our series in Hebrews. Everything starts with Jesus. We've been in kind of a sub, like a sub-series called Mountain Movers. In Hebrews 11, we hear about the heroes of faith, the people who have this incredible, radical life-altering faith, different than saving faith. Saving faith is simple, and it's just you trust Jesus for life, and he gives it freely. But there's another step, a deeper way of living out faith, radical faith, mountain moving faith, and we've been kind of going through and picking apart some of the heroes of the faith. Now, I do have a podcast, and I've been pushing it. If you wanna hear more about this, especially the question of, are these people really heroes? We're gonna see today, we're gonna see today that this guy we're gonna talk about, Jephthah, he's kind of unsavory, and this is a sort of horrific story, and yet we're gonna see that in Hebrews 11, he's honored. And so let's check Hebrews 11 first, see what it says about Jephthah, and then we'll jump into judges where we hear his story in more detail. The author of heroes is winding up, he's kind of getting to the end of his heroes of faith, and he's like, what else can I say? I don't have time to tell you about Gideon, Barak, Samson, and Jephthah, well, I do have time to talk to you about Jephthah, so I will, about David and Samuel and the prophets who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, gained what was promised, who shut the mouths of lions, talking about Daniel there, quench the fury of the flames, if you remember Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that's what he's talking about there, escape the edge of the sword, whose weakness was turned to strength, and who became powerful in battle, and routed foreign armies, and we're gonna see that's Jephthah, that's one of the things that he did. So it sounds like, man, this guy sounds awesome, right? He's gonna be powerful in battle and route foreign armies,
