- Well, we're finishing our Christmas series today, his great names. We've been looking at one of the most famous prophecies about the Messiah from Isaiah 9. And we've been kind of investigating what it means, because it sounds really neat, and it sounds cool, but what does it actually entail? What does it actually mean? Not only in the original text and context, but also for us now, like, how does that change? How does it change who we are and what we do? Because it does. And so, today, we're gonna look at the Prince of Peace. So let's read our base text. For to us, a child was born to us, a son is given, the government will be on his shoulders. He will be called Wonderful Counselor. We suggested something like Miracle Planner, Mighty God. We suggested Warrior God, Everlasting Father, which we just meant, always being dead for us. And now, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace, there will be no end. Now, the Prince of Peace, what does that mean? And maybe even more importantly, what did Israel think it meant? Okay, and then the Hebrew here is, English translation's great. There's no real need to tinker with it. It's just somebody who's, like, you know, king or a prince. And the kind of prince, kind of king that this man will be is one who brings peace. Well, what did that look like? And what did they think that meant? Well, just a few chapters earlier, Isaiah tells us in an oracle from God. And this is Isaiah two. And then listen to this, many peoples. And by that, the Old Testament always means Gentiles, okay? Non-Jewish people. Many peoples will come and say, come, let us go to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways so that we may walk in his paths. The law will go out from Zion, who's declaring that law, this coming Messiah. The word of Yahweh from Jerusalem. And he, this Messiah, will judge between the nations, to settle disputes for many peoples, not just Jewish people, but everyone all throughout the world. And what are these people going to do?
