Well, we're starting our new series today on the fruits of the Spirit and today we're going to do like an overview of what the fruits of the Spirit are and what they're for and why God gives them to us. And so as we do it, I'm going to show you, I won't be focusing on the actual fruits of the Spirit because that's coming. But right now I want us to understand what they are and why they exist, why God gives them to us and how we can activate them in our lives. Okay, so let's take a look at the Texas' Galatians 5, NIV, but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, or patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking, and envying each other. Well, maybe you've, maybe you know this list, maybe if I just asked you, what are the fruits of the Spirit? You wouldn't need to have this text up here to tell me, but my guess is probably not. And the reason is that you did not go to preschool and learn the fruits of the Spirit song. Does anyone know this song? It's a classic. The fruit of the Spirit is not a coconut. The fruit of the Spirit is not a coconut. Something, something, something. If you want to be a coconut, knock, knock, knock, you might as well hear it. You can't be a fruit of the Spirit, because the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Love, joy, peace, faithfulness, kindness, goodness, and self-control. So I highly recommend that this week your homework is to look up on YouTube, the fruit of the Spirit song, so that you can have it love, joy, peace, patience, and you can just get it. Because otherwise, it's hard. There's a lot going on there. And, and, and I think the, probably the most difficult thing about that is when we first hear the fruit of the Spirit, we start to assume that this is something that we're supposed to do. Okay? Next slide, Maryland. Check this out. You've got to notice this, it's the fruit of the Spirit. Okay, it's not the fruit of Tom. It's not the fruit of Brent. It's not the fruit of Jeff or Linda. It's the fruit of the Spirit. We tend to, you hear this, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Well, if I can just, you know, work harder and be better at kindness, then surely, surely I will develop the fruit of the Spirit, this is a discipline that I must work hard to engage in myself to create. Well, I don't know about you, but I'm tired, sick and tired of being disappointed by strawberries from the grocery store.

These are fruit of the Spirit. We can't produce or improve them! We need to be walking with the Spirit to produce them. They are given to us to help our spiritual family thrive.
