Today, we're just briefly gonna look at one of my favorite texts in 1 John. And John's gonna tell us how the world is, and he's gonna ask every single person here to respond in a way. And so, let's look at it just briefly, and let's see what John has for us, and then we will go, "My little children, "I write these things to you so that you do not sin anymore." But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate before the Father, Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He is the Atonement Sacrifice for our sins, and not ours only, but also the sins of the entire universe or cosmos. John's coming off of a bit where he's talking about some of the major sins that people commit. Well, if anyone does, that word, if, in Greek, can also mean when or whenever. So it could be, but when anyone sins, or whenever anyone does sin, we have an advocate before the Father. We have someone arguing on our behalf, Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. And to understand this, we need to understand what sin is, right? John says, "I don't want you to sin, "but when you do, here's some good news." Well, I, the way I learned about sin was from watching Happy Gilmore and taking up golf. This is where he's like, "Go in your home! "Are you too good for your home?" Guess no one's seen them, that's fine. Hey, there's a few fans, that's good. The conceit of the movie is that Happy Gilmore is a hockey player, but he ends up golfing randomly. And because he's a hockey player, he's a great slap shot. And so he can put the ball on any green in just one shot, even if the, what's a long hole, like four or 500 yards, is that right? Yeah, four or 500. So even like a 500-yard hole, he just winds up and whacks it, lands right on the green. And so you'd think that he would instantly be the greatest golfer in the world, and he's not, because he finds out, once you get on... I know we've got some golfers here. Okay, now, without the line, anytime you ask a golfer how they did, they're like, "Oh yeah, I shot like a shot par." No, you didn't.
