So I'm obviously not much of a sportsman But that's actually not because I'm not coordinated. I'm actually not bad when it comes to hand-eye coordination so like if you were to You know throw a pass to me I could probably catch it Moreover if I threw a pass to you my spiral would be better than yours because I have a very nice spiral My dad and I we used to throw the ball back and forth when I was a kid and we would rate it Right, so like you know like a really like a perfect spiral would be a 10 Right and then anything less than that if it wobbled, you know, you're in the sevens at best I mean if it's off target you're at the fours We used to do that and and since I have some decent I'm not great about a decent hand-eye coordination My dad always imagined that I might one day become a professional You know sports player and and then make millions of dollars and fund his retirement That didn't happen But really the reason that I am just not a big fan of sports in general is because I am always stressed out By teams. I'm stressed out by the fact that I might let the team down I worry like I don't like the idea that like someone's looking at me and they're like Tom make a play So what if I don't what if I messed it up? Moreover, I don't want to depend on them because I know they're terrible and I don't want to have to sit there and have you know Because I get I'm mostly a non-competitive person, but if things get close and they get heated I get riled up I get mad and I don't like feeling that out of control like And so the best so I just that's why I surf. That's why that's my my thing surfing because no I'm not depending on anyone. No one's depending on me It's just me in the water me and Jesus me and God. I mean seriously That's one of the best things about about surfing is that you just you get out there and you're like hey It's just you and the Lord, and that's it Well, I think today we've been in a series called failing forward and we've been following the life of Moses Moses He's not a great guy, but he keeps at it and we've seen several three weeks now of him like just stumbling and failing And and every time he fails. Yes, but he fails forward He fails in such a way that God can pick him up and move him to a better place and today we're gonna see a little bit of Moses's hatred of teams and where that gets him So let's read the text together Amalek came and fought with Israel at refedim Moses said to Joshua choose some men for us and go fight with Amalek Tomorrow I'll stand on top of the hill with the shepherds rod of God or this or God's staff in my hands So Joshua did as Moses told him he fought with Amalek while Moses Aaron and her If you would like to pronounce that the Hebrew way it helps to cough or When I was lost my spot they went on the top of the hill Whenever Moses held up his hands Israel would start winning the battle Whenever Moses lowered his hand Amalek would start winning But Moses hands retired so they took a stone and put it under Moses so he could sit down on it Aaron and who are held up his hands one on each side of him so that his hands remained steady until sunset So Joshua defeated Amalek and his army with the sword Just This is a start there. I mean you have we got a catch up here, right? so we got we got to catch up with Moses because this is an interesting battle strategy is an interesting tactic, right? so the the Amalekites are coming and they're attacking Israel and It makes sense for Moses to be like hey Joshua you seem like you can kill people really well
