As promised, we are beginning a new series. I think it's technically called New Look at the Old Book, but I want to call it Fresh Look at the Old Book. I've decided. And we're going to talk to the idea behind this series. We're going to look at all the things, all the stories and the accounts in the Old Testament that may be kind of famous. Maybe you've heard, whether you're a church person or not, you've probably heard of these things. The question is, what do they mean? And I'm hoping that if you're not a religious person, you don't identify that way, then these will be a fresh look. You're like, wow, that's not what I expected from the Bible. And if you're in old hands and you're the best Christian ever and you're a pro at Christianity, I hope that, again, you'll see things maybe in a fresh way, a new way, a way that will engage you, that you might not have expected. And so you can see, we're going to be talking about the first thing. This is from the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo's portrait painting of Adam and Eve at the tree. And so that's what we're going to look at today. While we're doing it, well, let's set in the back of our minds. Just I want this to be kind of whispering in our ears, sort of like the snake is whispering to you, well, maybe, but no, not like that at all. This is a good thing, good question. The question is, what's wrong with people? What is the problem with people? We all know there is one because, well, we know ourselves and we also can watch the news or read the news on the internet. We know that there's something really messed up with people. And what's cool about this text is I think that this text kind of sets the stage and answers the question, what is wrong with humanity? It kind of puts it all out there, like, this is what's up. This is the problem. So if you let that sit in the back of your head as we encounter it, I hope that we'll see something new and something exciting. This is the New King James, so you can follow along in your pubiles if you like. But we're going to start in Genesis 2. We're going to skip down to Genesis 3, and we're going to get the story of the first sin. So please read with me. "Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it." And the Lord God-- by the way, anytime you see Lord in all caps, that's underneath is the personal name of God, Yahweh.
