If you've been with us since probably about February, you know that we're in the Book of Ephesians Paul's letter to the church in Ephesus and as I said a number of times we've gotten we've gotten there, we've gotten halfway. So the Book of Ephesians is it's broken up into two parts basically. The first three chapters where Paul explains what theologically has happened in the event of Jesus Christ, coming, dying and being raised, what that means and what it has accomplished, how it's unveiled the mysteries of the universe, how it's unfolded and revealed the divine plan of God that had been held in God's heart and now is poured out so that special people who see it, people like Paul, it's been given to them by the Spirit to understand, to recognize and he's been sharing for three chapters what has happened. And now we're about to enter into chapters 4 through 6 where Paul says since that's happened this is how we're going to live. And so the title of our series Ephesians made new, that's the first three chapters, to live new and that's what we're about to embark upon. And what's going to happen today is we're in the center point like we're right in the middle and Paul is going to explicitly refer to what's just happened to motivate us for what is about to take place. He's going to look back in just one phrase and he's going to call us to a new way of life. And so in order I think to feel the pull of what Paul is doing it's helpful I think to look back and see what he's already done to tell the big story again so that we can feel it so we can recognize it. To sum it up today's message is called Why We Fight. That's actually the title of a song, an orchestral piece composed by Hans Zimmer who makes music for movies, right, soundtracks. This is actually from a war movie from the early 2000s called Black Hawk Down. In Black Hawk Down it's a retelling of the tragic events in Mogadishu when American soldiers in the 90s were inserted into an environment where they did not have proper support and they were ambushed and yeah a bunch of bad stuff happened and there's a movie about it. And in the build-up to these terrible events the main character is sitting there and he's contemplating he's brand new to the fight he's just joining the unit he's gonna be leading a squad and into a combat zone and he's he's upset because he sees the way that some of the guys are talking about the people that they're supposedly there to protect and defend. There's these people who are starving and the explicit mission of the United States combat unit is to protect and defend people as food is being given to them. And so he's he's upset because the way that these people who are starving are being talked about is it's really offensive and it's not very sensitive to their plight and he's like he's like guys don't you know why we fight. And there's this theme it really begins the theme of the entire film. It's a question that rests at the center of everything that these combat these men and these soldiers have to to understand why are we doing what we're doing why do we fight. And the movie actually has a number of different answers to that question and it's left up to us to decide why we fight. And Paul's gonna tell us today why he fights and we're going to have to ask ourselves why we fight. But to get there let's review let's let's let's let's let's get back 30,000 feet let's look at what we've done Ephesians 1 to 3 let's let's kind of get the lay of the land and let's let's kind of generate if we if we can sort of a sense if we could sum up Ephesians 1 to 3 and just like one line if we could just get one one quick way to sum up everything that's gone before what would it look like well let's take a look let's take a look at a number of different things that we've actually just been doing over the last several months and the first
