He said, once when I was six years old, my parents were away on vacation. On the night of their return, the babysitter woke me up to tell me that she had some bad news. An airplane had crashed and there were no survivors, and it might have been the flight my parents were on. He inserts a parenthetical comment at this point in the story. He writes, "Dear babysitters, don't deliver life-altering bad news to a six year old child unless you have first confirmed said bad news is true. Yours truly every six year old child." He writes, "Ours was not a Christian home, but that night I prayed to God. It was basic instinct. God, if you're up there, please bring my parents back. Make them not be dead. Make them not be dead. Make them not be dead. Two hours later, my parents walked through the door. I have never loved and enjoyed my parents more than I did for the rest of that evening." (audience laughing) Now, parents, if you're struggling to see gratitude and appreciation from your kids, don't interpret that story as an idea. (audience laughing) I already tried it, it doesn't work. I'm kidding. Have you ever woken up from a vivid nightmare, one of those very real vivid nightmares and been flooded with relief that what you dreamed about was not true? You ever been there? It's difficult to describe the relief and even joy that one feels after waking up from what feels like reality, a powerful reality. Well, if you're a follower of Jesus Christ, the life you're living now is a nightmare
