Harley is joined by returning guests Ella Jay and Lizzy Flanagan to discuss the women of AEW All In!  Jamie Hayter is back and we're excited.  Who could be first in line for a crack at women's champion Mariah May?  Will this lead to a new Toni Storm?  What went wrong with Britt Baker vs. Mercedes Moné?  And what stipulation will Willow Nightingale choose for her All Out match against Kris Statlander?

Plus: Dear Ziggy with eyeliner tips from Ziggy Haim.

Hello gang, you're listening to grit and glitter a weekly podcast to keep the power of women's wrestling, my name is Harley Vasquez, her name is Emphere. Yep. And it's time once again for dear Ziggy! It's only for the music, god damn it. No music, but that's okay, still good. The budget. We blew all our budget on, uh, Con Candy at the fair this summer. The pyro. You can't on the pyro. Hyro budget. I don't know if it translates to the audio, but it's a firework spectacular. You're having a great time. We wanted to give you that ASMR experience of a pyro, pyro ship. I love that. Having to see the blaring pyrotechnics in person. So you get to hear it, you get to feel it, feel the way ASMR puttista in print. I love that. So if you are a new listener to the show, welcome. This is a recurring segment we do where professional wrestling general manager, Zhiyam, Ziggybeth Hyam, joins us to dispense wisdom and advice, and I know what you're thinking, isn't she like 22? What kind of wisdom can she have at? Trust me, why is beyond her years? I am 28. I do have some more. More? Oh, there you go. That's my first question. Ten care routine, girl. Dude, it's whatever I allow my body to do at that time. I try to, I never fall asleep in makeup or I will have like a 10-3 overload, but other than that, I just try to keep my face clean. I try to do a nice little skincare routine whenever I can, but I do have a lot of ADD, so sometimes it doesn't happen, but I try my best. Sometimes you're better than others. Well, our first official email from one of our dear listeners this week comes to us. Not far off from that topic. Oh, I love that. They write, "Dear Ziggy, I've been doing my makeup for about a year and a half now and I've gotten pretty good at it." The one thing I still struggle with though is eyeliner. No matter how hard I try, I can't get a singular, smooth line. Do you have any tips? Using tape, 100%, like just use a tape on the corner of your eyes and it helps so much. If you need that guide, it makes everything so much easier. But when I can, we am feral and use literal painter's tape on my eyeballs, and nothing happens to me, but you do you however chaotically you wish, but 100%, my biggest answer is tape, because I also have shaky little hands, so I understand the feel of not being able to get that straight line. I always wonder that with tape, so if you're doing a full face, you're doing your basic. Yeah, that is the thing. It does take a little bit, because I want to be able to use tapes and make my eyeshadow and my eyeliner and everything as exact as it can be, but then if I put it down on my face with the foundation, et cetera, it's going to take it off. Definitely, the only thing I say is sometimes I'll go over it a little bit with concealer at the end, but that is the risk you have to take for the straight line that I take sometimes. After a while, gotten pretty good, sometimes using a pen liner is the best choice, because then it's much easier to hold it like a little pencil and draw on your eyes, but it is a pain in the ass, no matter who you are, and it's much trial and error for sure. Do you largely prefer a liquid or a dry eyeliner? I much prefer a liquid, but I also like, that's just what I grew up learning on as a team in my early tumbler years, but I'll usually use a pencil on my water line and stuff like that, but for everything else, I've gotten pretty good at liquid. Okay, and I have nothing to contribute to this conversation, but there's some hot tips for you. No, you can just appreciate it. I do love a winged eyeliner, when the little wing comes up and it's all sharp, very sexy. It's so fun. Yeah. Sometimes I just got recently a huge liquid liner set of takes off chomp with a bunch of different colors. I haven't really used them yet, but I'm excited to get a creative spurt and try painting on my face with them. Yeah, I got a set of colored liquid liners recently, and they're fun to play with. They are a little hard to get right, especially the loudest thing. You've got to really practice with them. Yeah, and they're fun to experiment with, though, in addition to lining the eyes, being able to use them in eye makeup in general is something I'm trying to start to do it, and so far all my attempts looked absolutely terrible, but you've got to start somewhere. I know exactly what you mean. It's something that it's a learning curve, and some of them are better than others. It depends. I feel like sometimes, when you use liquid liner, it's better if you don't go in with an expectation. You've got to just be like, "We're going to do some drawings and see how it goes," and then you just figure out, you just get to the end somewhere. It's way worse when you go in expecting it, because it never turns out. If you want advice, guidance, help, if you have questions for Ziggy as well, you can always reach out to us, Twitter or Instagram, @gritglitterpod, or @gritglitterpodcast@gmail.com, send in your questions. We do this segment very often around here. This is like, I don't mean, I haven't been keeping track. This is probably like number 12-13. We think pretty good, yes. We're changing lives over here. Yeah. It's been a good time. I've enjoyed it. Send in your questions, and Ziggy will most likely be back next week with some more pros of wisdom. [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] Okay, it is the last week of August. Summer vacation has come to an end, but what a way to go out. Life of England would be all in their biggest show of the year, biggest crowd of the year, for sure. My usual teammates, far too busy playing hooky off of the beach, off of the mall, doing all that sort of things. Luckily, the pro wrestling world is rife with intelligent, capable, charismatic, wondrous, helpful, professional wrestling, commentators, including my two returning guests, LJ, and Lizzy Flanagan. Oh, thank you. [laughs] Welcome back, both of you. It's been a while, both of you. So this is very fun. I think it's been almost two years from me. I think it was the end of 2022 for me. I think for me, you were my last Skype call. It was September 2003, not 2003, 2023. I'm so out of it. I'm so sorry. When I pass away, I want my Twitter timeline to just be like my last Skype call, heart. I mean, you will. I assume probably going to be my last Skype call. Yeah, probably. Four are our Ignorant listeners. Ella, tell them what you do, what you cover, your sites, all that. So if you don't know me, I am a full-time professional wrestling kind of everything. I do news writing for Wrestling Inc. and WrestleZone. I also do interviews for WrestleZone, my own podcast, WrestlingGal and SE Scoops. Sometimes due to commentary. It's been a hot minute since I do that. And I guest on a lot of women's wrestling shows like this one because it's like my favorite thing. Yeah, it's a miracle you have time to guest on shows like this. I have scaled some stuff back recently. Oh, and also now I write for Instinct culture with Denise Salcedo. That's my newest thing covering Raw and Dynamite. So I'm expanding a little bit lately. And Lizzy, besides the Von Ericks, what do you do? I was just going to say I have a blog about the Von Ericks. But I write for Sportster. Actually, ironically enough, the feature I wrote today for them was about Carrie Von Eric. I write more about wrestling than just them. Yeah, Sportster is my main place. But I also do some freelance work time to time. And I'm working on a biography. But this is still kind of under wraps because I'm working on the proposal and I'm going to start sending it out to publishers. Do you watch a W regularly? Like me, I read the results every week, but I can't tell you the last time I've watched weekly television. But I watch all the paper views. I watch Dynamite because me and my boyfriend actually met at AW Dynamite. So now it's our weekly tradition that he comes over and we watch Dynamite. No matter if we want to watch what's on the show or not. I watch Dynamite every week too because I cover it. Fridays and Saturdays are. Friday nights are my nights off. Saturday is also my day off. So I kind of like to separate myself from wrestling a little bit. I'll obviously catch up on clips and results and stuff like that. But as for regularly, just Dynamite I watch regularly. The rest I'll kind of like Lizzie catch up on clips and results. Well, as I said, this was all in the big Wembley show. Next year it won't be at Wembley. But this year was, well it won't be at Wembley for all instance. It's complicated. The big show we had three women's matches on the card plus another little surprise segment on the zero hour. And the big, I guess the other big thing is just like last year all out is in like a week and a half. Like it's right behind. Yes, it's not this weekend. They're actually spacing it out a little bit. Give us some time to breathe to come off of all in on a high, but also setting up for, they've set up a little bit for all out. You know, I'm in the weeks leading up to all in. Like, Pac is already confirmed. He's going to be facing a loss by then it all out. But they've done a little bit of a better job compared to last year of setting stuff up. Yeah, last time or last year I just felt too sudden. Yeah, I mean, even wrestling fans will still have a pay-per-view to watch. Sorry, a PLE to watch this weekend. Yes, that is true. Yeah, and like you said, a lot of things on this show. We only have, I think, two, three matches confirmed for all out so far. Obviously done like this week will set up a lot of that. But it does feel like pieces are in place for logical matches. They could add to the card now that wouldn't feel rushed and wouldn't feel out of nowhere. Like a first match on the Zero Hour. Willow Nightingale, teaming with Tomohiro, Ishii to take on Chris Stattlander and Stokely Hathaway. I guess it was officially mixed tag, although it wasn't never really clear. Because we did get a little bit of Statt and Tomohiro going at it. Can we talk about Stokely's entrance? This is Michael Jackson gear. Yes. That was so iconic. It's been like, it's been a hot minute since Stokely has legitimately wrestled. You know, obviously he's been very fantastic at this managerial role. You know, great at it. But it was good to see him, you know, in a different element than we're used to seeing, you know, and coming out to his, you know, crazy over the top entrance. I was here for it. And then obviously Willow and Ishii getting the one I feel like was the right call here. I feel like we're not done with this feud though, but my question is where does it go next? With Stokely, he could go anywhere though. So I feel like we'll be on our toes for whatever happens next. My very first indie show that I ever went to was 2019 here in Toronto. And MJF and Stokely teamed up and they took on Space Monkey. And I can't remember who Space Monkey's partner was. But yeah, Stokely and MJF wrestling together. Gracie, how far they've come since then? Oh my God. And I'm looking at the cards. Statlander was in the match right before them. Taking on Alexi Nicole. So yeah, it was interesting to get him to see him wrestle. And it was mostly, you know, when Jimmy Harden and Jim Cornette got, like, tricked into half an wrestle match and just bumping around communically. But when he hit that spine buster on Tomah Hero to kick things off, I lost it. Alone by myself at home, I was just like laughing my ass off. That was Prism. He's a good wrestler. Even though I feel like AEW is not, like, they use him for his managerial skills more than his in-ring skills. But he can go if he wants to. And Willow and Stat, this was kind of more, like, I guess, a teaser of their match at All Out. So we know what All Out it will be. Willow taking on Chris Statlander for Willow's CMLL women's title. They said the winner of this match will get to choose the stipulation for that. We don't know what it is, yet probably we'll find out tomorrow night on Dynamite. But they didn't do, they wrestled a bit in this match, but they were really, like, we want to wait for that big showdown on Pay-Per-View. I feel like that's when they're really going to go. Oh my God, I was going to say go All Out. I had that. No, you got to keep it in. But I feel like it's right, though, you know, like I said, this was kind of a prelude to that championship match between them. And it was also an opportunity, like we said, to see, you know, Stokely in a different, not that he's not wrestled before he has. But in the last years, he's been more so known for his managerial services. It's good to see him in a different element on the AEW stage, you know, for that comedic relief. But then you also have that mix of this very serious, very aggressive, ECE kind of juxtaposition going on there. And we don't get to see mixed tags a lot in wrestling in general, so it was kind of a breath of fresh air to see that, too, especially on the grand stage, you know, in Wembley Stadium. Lizzie, how do you feel about the conglomeration? I love them. It's like, wow, like, um... On Pay-Per, it's like, what the hell is this? But there's just every single one of them in that group is just so likable. It's like when you... Yeah, and they're all like... Those photos of like... They're all so different. Of a capabera, and it's like hanging out with an alligator, and then hanging out with butterflies, and hanging out with, like, a kitten. That's, for me, that's a conglomeration. Yes. Yeah, 'cause they're all very likable guys, but likable for different reasons. It's funny that AEW just kind of stuck them together, and it worked. I want for Halloween, like, a 10-man, 10-person tag, where the conglomeration all goes as a group costume, as the Breakfast Club. Oh, my God. I'm AEW just so like... They're Halloween shows, they're always so campy and fun. Like, they need to bring that back. Yeah, we're, um, hanging out as the marshmallow man. Yeah, so a fun little match, as you would, would kind of expect, I guess. Ishi just, uh... Just destroyed Stokely and pinned him pretty easily with the sliding layer yet. Which means Willow gets to choose the stipulation for her match against Statlander. That's interesting, 'cause so often... It's the heel who gets to choose the stipulation, right? Because then the baby face gets backed into a corner. So, Ella, do you have any predictions on what Willow's gonna choose? I don't know why the first thing that came to mind was a strap match. Um, maybe because we're getting it on WWE and stuff like that. But, like, I feel like they have to use, like, a stipulation that we don't, like, see often. But also, like, Thunder and Deanna have also been doing stipulation that, like, we don't see often women's wrestling lately. So, it's like, what can they do, like, two out of three falls or something? Um, I want them to do a stipulation that we don't, like, see often. So, like, I don't know why a strap match just seems kind of, kind of right for this feud. My first thought went to, okay, so Stokely's gonna get locked into, like, a shark cage. Like, you know, everything's out of here. Very possible. That's the classic, like, what you do to the manager who's, like, annoying the hell out of you, right? But is that enough, or do we, you know, do we want that and, like, a steel cage match, or that and, like, something worth setting on it, tables, and not, yeah. I'm like, what? Yeah, Willow's been in a bunch of, like, street fights, like, a Chicago street fight, whatever, like, Willow's already been in a bunch of street fights, you know, we've seen her in the element. Shark cage would be cool. Um, like, I don't know, like, like a ladder mat. We haven't really seen the women in, like, just a straight up ladder match. Um, like, I feel like it has to be something that's, like, not, not used, not typical for the women in A.W. If, like, it has to be something we don't see a lot, you know, shark cage would be funny. Um, and it also prevents the possibility of somebody else getting added to the factor. What else does Stokely have up his sleeve? I kind of like that idea, though, of Stokely just, like, uh, like, up in the rafters hanging above the ring in a shark cage. That would be hilarious. Mm, I kind of want that now. I think you've swayed, you've swayed me, Harley. Yeah, because you think if the babyface has the power, then they want something to level, especially because she's outnumbered. Will it want something to level the field? A ladder match is usually not in the champion's benefit, right? Because anything can go awry and somebody, and then Chris just runs up a ladder and grabs it. Or Stokely grabs it and, you know, Allah, uh, James Ellsworth and Carmella just tosses it to Chris. Mm. That's what I thought, uh, Nick Wayne's mom is going to do in the trio's match. Yeah. Which had those heels, and that's not built for speed. You don't climb a ladder in heels. Not at all. Well, I suspect we'll find out sooner than later what Willow shoes is. I'd love if they just, like, bought it, just something, like, completely random. And, like, like a lumberjack match, but the ring is just, instead of lumberjack, it's just balloons, like, all around ringside. Or Legos, I do. Yeah, not that, not that they would ever do that, but I want to see another, I want to see Lego match. And they end up you. Like, didn't we have something similar to that? Like, a couple of years ago. I don't remember what the name of the match was, but it was something similar to that. Oh, Wendy's you. Oh, sorry. Then Wendy to use Legos. Oh, yeah. Maybe her lights out against Tiffany. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, that might be what I'm thinking of. Yeah. Well, Chris dropped the alien imagery and Willow doesn't have, like, strong, like, imagery associated with her. She's got a strong character, but she doesn't have, like, a, like, an item or a motif that really jumps to mind. I'm also sick of Willow having short title reigns. So, like, give her some time. Please. For the love of God. Yeah. Well, that's my look. We'll get to that later, but that's my question is what other women's matches might we see all out? Because last year, the only champion ship that was defended at All-In and All-Out was the Trio's title. They did, they really split it up, right? They had, like, the one women's title, one show, one of the other. The, I think, the international title. Headlined one show versus the men's world title headline and the other. They haven't really had people doing double duty, which would make you think that if they follow that tradition, then we might not see Mariah or Mercedes wrestle at this show. Well, I know, Saray and Jamie is, I don't know if it's confirmed for this Wednesday, but I've been seeing people saying that that match is going to be taking place on Dynamite this week rather than All-Out. I mean, that could build. Something could happen, like, Harley Cameron attacks Jamie and then they set up a rematch at All-Out. That's possible. That would be the first time in a long time that we'd have a non-title women's match. Julia could return. People have been saying, "Julia might return, face Mercedes. I don't know. I know she's defending her new Japan Strong Women's title this weekend, I believe. In D.C., I think it is for a new Japan. Yeah, so maybe she could defend her new Japan Strong Women, assuming she retains it at All-Out the week after. That's another thing to consider, too. There's some possibilities there. I'd like to see Mina come back and tell us, Mariah. I feel like they were definitely setting up something with her being in the stands at Wembley. Well, as you said, Sreya and Jamie Hader. That was our other women's segment on the Zero Hour. Sreya comes out. She's got a whole squad with her. She's got Harley Cameron. She's got her brother Zack. She's got her mom, Sreya Sr. And she's got a team of security guards, including British wrestlers, Lizzy Evo, Rio, and Mercedes-Bless in disguise as security guards. I was so happy to see that. My girls, the UK girls representing. I'm so happy to see that. So, Sreya complains. She says, last year at the show, she won the women's title. I blocked that out, but I looked it up and apparently that's true. She won the title. She says she's the best woman to ever come out of England. And then Jamie Hader returns. How long has it been? It's been a year and three months. Yeah, year and three months, whatever. 15 months. Yeah, it's been a long time. And they were very mum about her timeline, right? Because I feel like for the last six months, nobody really knew. Is she close to coming back? Is she okay? What's going on here? And so, part of me was like, maybe she's not ready to come back. And that's why we haven't heard anything. But she'll come out here and make an appearance to set up things down the line. But they made it very clear. She comes out, she's throwing right hand, she's taking all the security guards. And it's like, oh, no, she's good to go. She's getting physical. She is clearly like 100%. This was my favorite part of AEW All-In, and I'm super biased. But it's been, like you said, it's been a long time. We've had no answers on Jamie's status. And like there's been reports like she had to get like special clearance to even wrestle that match at double or nothing last year where she dropped the title to Tony. So there was clearly something like very wrong with her shoulder and other stuff going on. So I don't know the specifics, but I'm very glad that she's back and she's healthy. She's in the stage. She's able to work again. Now there's that other question. Does she realign with Britt Baker? We don't know what's going on. But I'm very happy to see Jamie Hader back in the mix. Yeah, I feel like AEW, like, could have done a lot more with her. Like, I just remember being at, this is years ago, being at Dynamite Live. And like, I think it might actually have been Sirea's first promo. And the crowd just started chanting for Jamie, even though she was just standing there. No microphone in hand, not in the conversation. But like she was so like fans wanted to see her get like that push. So hopefully she gets it this time around. Yeah, I mean, I can't take, I can't use my Twitter timeline as, you know, as a sample of like the best thing world at large. But it really feels to me like she's universally beloved. Like, I don't know, I haven't seen anybody say anything bad about Jamie. She's good. There's nothing to dislike. She's good. And even like the worst of the wrestling trolls are like, well, she's hot. So it's like, everybody loves her. So, yeah, I assumed that I was like, okay, this could, this will be an all out match, Jamie and Sirea. But you said they've announced it for Dynamite already. Yeah, they're, I don't know if it's confirmed, but Sirea has definitely been teasing it that they would face off on Dynamite. Granted, like I said, Harley Cameron could interfere and it sets up maybe something at all out. Or Sirea shows up for the match and says, you know what, no, I'm not doing this. Yeah, Harley, you take her. Yeah. Very possible. Again, that would be a rare, rare instance. Like, we would have a women's singles match. Like, I'm assuming you would be on the main card, you know, that we've had a non-title single women's match on the main card up a pay-per-view, an AW, would be a rarity. And commentary mentioned, you know, Jamie is returning to a women's division very different from when she left. You look at, like, all the top Mercedes wasn't here when she left. Tony Storm was a different person, right? Me wasn't here. Like, so much has changed and I think we, I think we're all probably in consensus that it's a lot better than it was when she left. Like, a lot stiffer competition, more matches on shows, more opportunities. So very exciting to see she could be put up against anybody really at this point. Yeah, I agree, you know, you know, Jade cargo was still TBS champion the last time that we saw Jamie Chris won it later that same night. So that's how long it's been since she's been out. That's crazy. We go to the main card. Our second match on the main card is for the AW Women's Championship. I think we were all a little caught off guard by that happening. I was going to say in the night, in the day, because it was broad daylight over there. Yeah, I tried to think about it and tried to be like, why is this second? Why is this happening so early? I don't think it was meant to be like insulting or anything. I generally, because I'm trying to spin it and think of like the posture as well. Okay, it's the first singles match of the entire day. All the other matches have been 10 man tags, like 16 man tags. Things like that. So this is our first one on one match. We've got a clear baby face, a clear heel. Now, maybe they were, maybe they were nervous. Maybe they thought Mariah would actually get cheered more because it's, it's England. And the crowd didn't. The crowd was firmly like, we are against you, which I love to, I always love to see that. And honestly, that to me, this was like the one of the matches of the entire night. Honestly, like the, the drama in there, you know, the blood, sweat and tears that all of them, you know, Tony even teasing using the shoes. On Mariah, but then, but then not, you know, although granted that would have helped to retain the title. But this, like, this had everything that you could really want. It had the drama. It had the emotion. It had the wrestling and, you know, Mariah, you know, just the culmination of like the perfect slow burn story that we don't get to see a lot in AEW, I feel like. It had the payoff, you know, Mariah winning the AEW Women's Championship and then Tony Storm, you know, basking and despite losing, you know, getting that respect from the crowd. You know, because Tony, Tony's been one of the most consistent players, I would say, apart from Swerve, you know, the last year. And Christian Cage, I would say too, you know, like character wise, they've been very hot and very over for the last year. So, I think we need to give, you know, we're talking about pigimbing people their flowers earlier. Tony Storm, give her her flowers. I was very glad to see that too after the match. Yeah, she was great. I honestly, like, I was a little upset when she first won the World Championship. Because to me, like, the timeless gimmick wasn't the gimmick that needs to be a World Champ. Like, you know, like, I felt like she was going to get overexposed. But then the Mariah, her and Nina and Mariah were so good. And then the big plot was after Mariah won the O and I was like, oh, she's the best World Champ they've had. Like, you know, like, she really won me over with this title reign. Yeah, because we really, I think most of us really expected it was going to be Tony who turned on her, right? Just like you're Christian and Luciousaurus or your MJF and Wardlow or anything like that. So they really got us with that one. I saw some people complaining. I saw some people complain because people want to complain, wrestling fans. Although Jamie returning on the pre-show, not on the main card. But once we got to this match and once we saw Nina watching, like, up in the VIP box with Rachel Allering, I was like, okay, I think this, again, I think this is all purposeful. I think they really wanted, we took Jamie out of the equation. She's already returned. We took Nina out of the equation. She's up there in the box. She's not going to, she's not at ringside. She's not going to run out. She's like way up in the stands. So that we can rest that this would be just a straightforward one-on-one match with a Lutheran ringside, obviously. But beyond that, these two other women aren't going to be factors and it's just going to be like a clean match between former best friends, protege and mentor, which I really like. Yeah, and it's not like the Jamie Seraya thing was completely random. You know, Seraya was there the night. She, before Jamie got out to defend her title against Tony at Double or Nothing, Seraya, you know, and Ruby Soho attacked Jamie Hader. You know, they were part of the big reason why she was out of action in storyline for 15 months. So it wasn't completely random. Yeah, it would have made sense for her to go after Tony Storm. But like you said, like the story, you know, between Tony and Mariah, you know, already had enough layers that like, just a straight up fight, I feel like was the perfect combination, obviously, Nina watching from the sidelines. I think Jamie will maybe get back to Tony at some point, but they're both baby faces right now. So you got to make it make sense whenever Jamie does circle back to Tony. I thought if Jamie was going, well, she showed up, but I was thinking before and if Jamie Hader shows up that it would probably be after the TBS title match, because of her, like, former alliance with Rebecca. But, yeah, the seraya angle makes sense too. So do we think Tony and Mariah are done with each other. Do they go their separate ways now? Do we get it or do we come back for rematch at a future pay per view? Like, maybe not all out. That's too, that's too soon. But, you know, October, November. I think Tony maybe takes some time off returns at Russell Dream, maybe. I feel like, you know, Tony's been going week after week again, like one of the most consistent people over the last year, like her swerve. And Christian, like I was saying, like, they're the work horses and they have been over the last year. So I think that was the right time, you know, John Moxie finally got his vacation. I think it's time for Tony some to get a little vacation herself, you know, let Mariah Mae be this arrogant woman with her title and, you know, she's just plowing through the division and then Tony surprises her. I don't know, maybe at full gear, Russell Dream. I think it makes sense for Tony to go away for a couple weeks, you know, after devastating loss as well. Did you guys see the video of her walking away from when we stayed in? Yes. Yeah. I feel like she's just kind of, like, desponded now. And she needs to go find herself. Oh, yeah, another maybe another reinvention. That's also possibility. That's what I was wondering. I was like this. You should move up the deck. Yes, that's my first thought went to Tony returns in like six. Well, okay, time is Tony's kind of like a 40s character, right? 30s, yeah, like old Hollywood, like 30s, 40s, yeah. Yeah, I get tripped up because all about Eve came out in the 50s, but it was set in like the 30s. Yeah, yeah. So, yeah, like what's the next leap for her? Does she come back as a character from the 40s? I want to see her in like an Alfred Hitchcock. Well, like a Grace Kelly or like a tippy head in like the birds doing something like that, but then I'm like, that's the 60s, maybe that's too far. Maybe she skips ahead three decades and goes disco. I don't know. Comes back in like the big pants and the sparkly silver. It would be cool of her for one did television turn to color. I feel like that'd be a cool like return video package that it goes from black and white to color. And then you see her like a brand new like 60s outfit, like between the six sixties. Yeah, I was going to see sometimes the sixties because I remember I want to see like Gilgames Island and Beverly Hillbillies starting black and white, but finishing color. That's how I'm working. That's how I'm working by the video. Yeah, so so 60s ish. I do not know cinema history. So your guess is better than mine. I just googled it really quickly. That was all. Oh. So Tony Tony goes away takes some time off. What's next for Mariah? Is it Mariah Amina? Amina comes out and says like, I don't like the person you've become. And like, you know, I don't like what how you've changed or. I don't know who else is who else is. I guess Deanna and Deanna for also and Thunder Rosa, I guess, are the two biggest names in the division who didn't appear on the show. Thunder was there. So and in Thunder's been adamant, you know, granted she got a title match and then lost, but she's been adamant about wanting to get a tunnel match back. I think personally they're going to have Mariah do some more, not that I'm a big fan of them, but do some squashes. To, you know, to elevate her to her, her rain a little bit and also do like, I don't know, I feel like she might get involved in some other people's matches. I don't know. Thunder Rosa would make sense. You're trying to think of like top like baby faces to go against her. I mean, obviously I'd love to see Jamie again, you have that brick versus British versus British in there. I don't know, like where does like just Julia Hart come back as like, I don't know. I feel like if Julia returns to probably go after Mercedes, I don't know. If Willow drops the belt, CML, I guess she could go after Mariah theoretically. There's a lot of options. I'd like to see someone likely the her's going to shop too. Yeah. Oh, Serena Deeb. I feel like in every rain, Serena Deeb always has at least one title shot. So I feel like we'll definitely be getting Mariah versus Serena at some point. Yeah, I'm going to, I'm definitely don't expect Mariah to wrestle at all out. I might be wrong, but if she doesn't, then it's six weeks until vessel dream. So that's plenty of time to build up kind of anybody as like a credible challenger or as a as a good threat. Right. What's she doing? She just been going back and forth during doing. Oh, is she? Yeah, that's true. She's been also kind of going back and forth between Japan and the state. I wish Rio was not injured right now because we could have had Rio on Mariah. Um, but yeah, maybe, maybe she. Yeah. All right. Then our final women's match of the show was for the TBS title Mercedes Monet with Camille in her corner defending against Britt Baker. Again, in retrospect, I think a lot of people feel like these two mashers should have been swapped. Um, and on paper Mercedes Monet is technically like the television champion, which is like a mid card champion. So why do it so late in the show? All I can think is on paper, maybe this looks like a bigger match. They can be take the titles out of the equation. You take the future of the equation. Mariah may has only been in AEW for eight months. Right. She didn't have a huge track record before coming to AEW, Stardom and some British Indies. But this match is the first woman ever to sign with AEW versus one of two women who completely changed wrestling at WWE. Right. I'm fully in the camp that everything great in the women's division at WWE right now can be traced back to Bayley Sasha, take over Brooklyn. Like I'm up to the opinion that that's the match that changed. All the presentation for women and made them be like, oh, wait, women can be like wrestlers. Yeah. No, I think Mercedes is definitely like the star power. Um, so even though she was holding her, she is holding the quote unquote made card title. Um, I'm not like completely shocked that she went on after. Also, I guess Brit historically has been the principal star of the AEW women's division. So that probably helped it too. On a show of great entrances. You know, we said Stokely Hathaway in his gold, Michael Jackson entrance. Orange Cassidy beat me down in the street like Mr. Bean. Mercedes, we got, we got the Queen Elizabeth carriage being drawn by beef eaters. We've got Camille walking beside and then inside the carriage we have Mercedes. We're in a big royal queen robe, just like Queen Elizabeth with three little corgis. Right, that perfect. There's a gift going around just at the exact moment that the land in front of the camera. The one corgi just pops up and puts his paws in the window sill and looks out and smiles. Amazing sign him. Korgie is all the lead. Yeah, we lost Pharaoh. Before RJ city, corgi gets signed all a league graphic for RJ city. Noah, rightfully so, JK love you RJ. I was confused. Um, I love Mercedes. I was just getting breakfast with that. I was just confused by like she had the corgis and the purple cape like English royalty, but then she had the stars and stripes in her hair. And I was like, so which, who are you? Like, what's this? I was a little confused by that, but you know, he's an icon. She can claim both countries if she wants a fair question. She's really repping July 3rd, 1776. Yes. I'm working right on the border. Um, and then there was a match and I mean, we don't have to, I guess we do have to talk about the match. Some people hated it. I thought it was okay. I just thought, so I missed the second half of the show live because we had tickets to the carnival. And I was just riding the Ferris wheel instead and getting sick. So I read all the discourse first and then watched the match the next day. And so I definitely didn't hate it as much as a lot of people did. But I did feel like this is kind of clunky. I think that was the word that kept coming to mind for me. Like, I can see like what they want to do and I can see what they're trying to do. Like, oh, she, she, she went for this thing and she countered it or she blocked that. But it just, it wasn't as fluid as I wanted it to be. I agree. I agree. You know, obviously it wasn't my favorite match of the evening. It wasn't a total shit show though, either. You know, a lot of people were pointing out that Mercedes seemed to be carrying it, carrying the match. I am leaning towards agreeing with that. But you also have to remember this is Brit's only third match back since returning. And also like she's returning from like, like some serious like back and next stuff. And she also had like a mini stroke. So she was out for a long time with some serious like stuff. She had some herniated discs, a torn hip labrum. So she's, she's basically come back from hell, you know, and, you know, she's still wearing off the ring rust again. And this was only her third match back. And, you know, before that she had wrestled what she did on dynamite and Harley Cameron on collision. The collision match was less than five minutes. This was like 17 minutes. So that's like three times the amount of her last match. So she's probably still getting used to the pacing back to it, you know, and also just being back at a ring in general. And also, I mean, not that she hasn't performed on the stage before, but like, to have like your first big match back beyond the stage of like Wembley Stadium. You know, I have to imagine there's some nerves going in there as well. So I want to cut Brit a little bit of slack, you know, with all the circumstances. But yeah, I mean, it wasn't my favorite match. I thought it was okay, you know, there's been worse matches. But I did, I did love their entrances. Yeah, that is true. I did love their entrances and I loved their ring gear. I just hope I just hope Brit is okay. That that's like, that's the only thing, you know, like she's wearing off the ring rust. I just hope like she's okay, like physically like after all of this because wrestling like a 17 minute match for the first time and what like. Almost a year, have to imagine is not easy. Yeah, especially like a stroke is a brain injury. Like with all the like, I would be getting sensory overload to standing in Wembley Stadium and like having to remember a match and like protect yourself and your phone at the whole time. Like my brain couldn't do that. And I've never had a concussion in my life. Like, you know, but yeah, I think there's also a very. A strong tendency in the AEW fan base and wrestling fans in general to overreact. So I think in the moment, it was like, oh, this is a monumental failure of like, disgrace the wrestling and you watch it back then actually you're like, well, it's not the best. It's fine. Like, you know, I think Brett is also. Burned a lot of goodwill with a W fans, just with all the backstage stories that have come out about her. So I think that kind of ripened. People were like looking for a reason to like. Criticize and kind of like get on the bandwagon. And I think they just saw their opportunity and that's why everything was so like blown up. Well, and there are a lot of people with like an unhealthy, like hatred of Mercedes as well. Whether it's racism or whether it's just because she left WWE and how dare she or whatever. So yeah, you know, like the anti women's wrestling crowd is always looking for an opportunity to jump on something. But 17 minutes and 19 seconds, I went through Brit's cage match and it's like, even when she was healthy, before she was injured, she was never doing those kind of matches. I had to go back to March 2022. Her two matches with Thunder Rose over the last time that she did anything close to 17 minutes. Like all the title matches and all the big AW matches in 2023, most late 2022 are all like nine minutes, 12 minutes, 14 minutes, that sort of thing. Which again, I think points to just on paper, it's like, oh, this is going to be this big epic, ambitious match between a face of WWE, sorry. I've been watching a lot of old raw lately, a face of WWE and a face of AW in the same way. You know, it was like, world's colliding when we got Jericho Omega or MJF and punk. I think they really wanted it to have that kind of feel and it just didn't maybe quite measure up. I think the build was kind of awkward too. I know both Mercedes and Greg can cut very good from it, but it felt like they're both like holding something back. Like, I just got like the vibe, like whenever they had like their face offs in the ring, that like they're like, they should be going for something and they're not. And like, I couldn't place it. It just felt a little bit awkward. It was also suspended for part of their feud, so they were probably like maybe trying to steer away from it, except for the night that Mercedes is like, Brit's not here. And then Shivani was like, actually she's unsuspended. They didn't really like mention on television from what I recall really until then. But I agree. I feel like though the contract signing, I thought was very well though. The week before though, where Brit announced via the television screen or via satellite, that one was kind of meh, but I did, I did really enjoy their contract signing. Brit had a really good line too about the year four or four, but I'm one of one. That was good. My wife was in the room getting dressed while I was watching that. She's like, oh, she ate that. Yeah. She doesn't actually doesn't watch wrestling. So again, my question, I always have this question whenever I do any paper, your coverage of anything. This is it for them. Do we get a rematch? Are they done? Are they going in separate ways? Brit Baker, she's always going to want a title match. I think Mercedes having two titles, I think she's going to have some new competition. I don't know where Brit goes from here. Whether does she save Jamie Hader from Harley Cameron and Saraya? That's logical right there. Granted, there's some backstage stuff going on. They aren't getting along. I don't really, I don't know the validity of that. But on screen, that would make sense for Brit to kind of pivot to help out Jamie and maybe they try something. But where Mercedes, like I said earlier, Julie Hart, she lost the title. She got injured. She could come back and want to reclaim it. That I feel like is natural right there. I feel like that might be the best route for them to go. I don't know. There's no real like, you know, sometimes there's like an unofficial number one contenders feud. Going on the background, the closest to that is Rosa and Deanna. Yeah. But I feel like we haven't had like a clear winner of that because they both won like a lot of both one significant big matches. And I. Deanna has won three thunder has won two, but thunder won the latest one. Yeah. And is it over? Are they done? It's so hard to tell. I think a couple of times. I mean, it was kind of, it was a Texas bull rope. They made it seem like it was the culmination of something. But technically Deanna still has one extra win over thunder. Um, so I honestly at this point, I think they need to go for best seven personally. Um, but they haven't, they haven't had a match since the Texas bull rope on what August 10th it was. Um, so I feel like they need a best of seven. I said, well, both of them are serious. Make it a triple five. I mean, I'm there for that. I'm down for that, too. It has it. I mean, I believe me, I'm not usually a proponent for multi person matches. I usually prefer just a straight one on one, but with their history with each other. You could either basically tied despite what you just said about the three and the two. They proven that they're that either one of them can win on a given night, essentially. And, uh, that extra number with Camila ringside makes things a little complicated on a little fun too, right? It's like, oh, yeah, you, you already have your basically two people in Mercedes. So here's two opponents. Um, that could also make the argument for it. Brit's still going to go after Mercedes for Janie then to help come over to the Mercedes view. So there's multiple things I feel like they could do if they were to continue like. Brit and Mercedes or break goes and there's there's multiple directions break. Go and there's multiple directions that could happen for Mercedes. It could be Julia. There could be thunder or Deanna or they could have Britain and Janie. There's multiple things, which is, which is nice. Yeah, that hasn't always been the case in a w. That's true. I would love for Mercedes to bring back. Remember when Cody first won the TNT championship and he had the weekly open challenge and you just had no idea who was going to come out. And like, that's how he got Ricky Starks and Eddie Kingston. Like, I would love for Mercedes to have a few, like a run like that. Um, even though she is as a character, probably as different from Cody as you can get. She's a heel. So she does that, but every match ends in disqualification with Camille just jumping. Yeah. Mmm. She's like, I'm on the field. I don't hate that. I don't hate that idea. It's like, yeah, because every single match ends with the DQ. All right. All out is in a week and a half from the Hoffman Estates in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. We got Chris and Willow. That's going to slap. Hopefully we got something else on the card. And we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. As always, you can follow us on Twitter or Instagram @gritglitterpod. Next week on this show, I think it should be a fun one. I managed to trick three wrestling fans into watching a weekly episode of weekly television from promotion that they don't normally watch. I've got a WWE fan who's going to watch an episode of Dynamite, and they never watch an EW. I've got a TNA fan watching NXT, and I've got an EW fan watching Impact Wrestling for the first time. They're going to come here, they're going to share their thoughts on the overall presentation of the competitions shows and of the women's divisions from these companies that they don't normally watch. I'm very excited. How did you trick them? I actually don't answer them, don't reveal your secrets. Yes, I've only revealed because I got you pegged to watch Montreal Classic Wrestling next week. You don't even know yet. We'll see about that. Oh, you've sponsored my sister in the wrestling match. I wanted to thank you for that. Steezy Brooks, you can watch her at the Monster Factory. Yes. Our schedule is so full up right now, it's insane. But the second we have a free week, I'm getting her to come on for an interview. You can tell her that. Give me credit for that. I got the connection. I'll tell you, she owes you 10% of what we pay her. Yes. I'm taking commission. [BLANK_AUDIO]
