“Held Together: Sound Doctrine For A Healthy Church” (2 John 1:1-13)

A church cannot be healthy without sound doctrine! Church unity and Christ-like love are dependent on it, and the church is protected by the dangers of false teachers by holding fast to the truth of scripture. We must never separate what God has joined together – biblical love flows from biblical truth. There is joy to be had by those who have built the foundation of their faith on the sound doctrine of God’s word.

- You're listening to a sermon preached at Redeeming Life Church. - Well, good morning, everybody. Thank you for being here. It is on Christ, the solid rock we stand. And it is his word we go to today. So if you would open up your Bibles today to the book of 2nd John, the book of 2nd John, that's on 1086 of the church Bibles. And we're gonna go through the whole book this morning. So if anyone asks you what you did in church today, you can say we studied an entire book of the Bible, all 13 verses, okay? So we're gonna do that together. Now as we've been doing the foundations of the church, we've really laid the foundation with preaching and conversion. We've talked about baptism into membership in the church. We've talked about the Lord's Supper and its significance in the life of the church. And today, if we've dealt with the foundations of the church, I wanna talk about the brick and mortar that builds the church. I wanna talk about sound doctrine this morning, the thing that builds up a healthy church. So if you're in 2nd John, let's read together. It says this. The elder to the elect lady and her children whom I love in the truth. And not only I, but also all who know the truth. Because of the truth that remains in us and will be with us forever. Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Son of the Father in truth and love. I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth. In keeping with the command, we have received from the Father. So now I ask you, dear lady, not as if I were writing you a new command, but one we have had from the beginning that we love one another. This is love that we walk according to His commands. This is the command as you have heard it from the beginning that you walk in love. Many deceivers have gone out into the world. They do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the anti-Christ. Watch yourselves so that you don't lose what we have worked for, but that you may receive a full reward.
