It was a rough weekend along the outer banks because of the Northeastern and impacted North Carolina all the way up toward Massachusetts. And joining us now from OBX News, it is Sam Walker. Sam, how are you? - I'm good Jeff, how are you doing? - I'm fine. So right now, where do things stand when it comes to highways along the area? I know that in particular NC Highway 12 is shut down, correct?
- That is correct, it is shut down between Organilla and Road Anthe has been since early Thursday morning when the Overwatch started washing out the road itself and made a pretty sizable dent. Washed out and damaged, heavily damaged about a thousand feet of Highway 12 with the area called the Key Island Visitor Center section. And DOT has been out there getting that pavement chewed up and out of the way, they've got sand grated outs and they are going to have at least a temporary road that in place and hopefully by Wednesday morning, that's going to allow the road to reopen at least for folks trying to leave the island who are sitting and waiting and have been waiting since Thursday morning and sitting and waiting in very long lines to try to get an emergency ferry from Hatteras Island back to the mainland so they can get off. - And right now, ferry service, how does that stand? - Well, the NC DFT ferry division began running ferries Friday at Saturday, excuse me, what day is this? This is day five of this event. - Right. - It's a little punch drunk man. - Kind of blame you. - Sunday, yeah, yesterday, they did start running emergency ferry yesterday between Stumpy Point on the Deer County mainland along US 264 and in Road Anthe and Road Anthe Harbor. Now they've got three vessels that are running 24 hours a day but they can only carry about 25 vehicles at a time and it's a two hour trip. So, you know, they have made runs pretty much since yesterday at 11 o'clock and have been doing so all night long, all day today. So they've only put a small dent in that. So if you can imagine by now we've had maybe 10, maybe 11 runs at times 25. So you're only talking about 250, 300 vehicles
