Featured Guest – Christian Franklin: The Orioles acquired Franklin from the Nationals for pitcher Joe Glassey. The 26-year-old outfielder brings strong on-base skills, speed, and defensive versatility. Over his recent Triple-A career, he has posted a .262/.383/.397 slash line, 18 home runs, 36 stolen bases, and a strong 15.1% walk rate. Franklin describes his game as getting on base, stealing bases, playing good defense, and taking advantage of opportunities to do damage. Orioles Player Evaluations: JC and Bordick discuss whether it's time for Baltimore to give opportunities to players such as Heston Kjerstad and Enrique Bradfield Jr. They also consider getting Jackson Holliday and Coby Mayo into the lineup more regularly and taking a closer look at pitchers Cade Povich and Albert Suárez. Mike Bordick's Record Falls: The episode closes with the story of Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson breaking Bordick's MLB record for consecutive error-free games at shortstop. Wilson surpassed Bordick's 2002 mark by reaching 111 straight games without an error and eventually extended the streak to 112 before committing an error. JC and Bordick discuss whether Wilson's record should be viewed differently because he had fewer fielding opportunities than Bordick did, and Bordick reflects on how long his own record streak lasted after it was established.

Do you know who I am? I'm kind of a big deal. The Be More Baseball Podcast. Over there, he is the 14-year MLB veteran in the Orioles Hall of Fame. Last time I checked, he's still there. It's Mike Bortick. I'm not going into the Orioles Hall of Fame. I didn't play in the Major Leagues. I'm Jerry Coleman. Every day, though, we're producing brand new content on X, on Instagram, on Facebook, all at one simple address, including YouTube. That's Be More SportsPod. Be More SportsPod. You can also watch the podcast with our media partner at BaltimoreSun.com. And I will say record downloads last week, 40, for that interview we did with Buster only. That's had an all-time record for downloads. This one's going to be big, too. It's going to be big, too. But if you haven't seen the Buster only episode, go back and check it out. It's still applies. Today, episode number 20, we speak with one of the newest Orioles, outfielder Christian Franklin. Find about how he's acclimating to Baltimore and the Orioles' clubhouse. We'll also try and figure out which players deserve more of a shot going forward here in the second half. And about the guy who took 40's name out of the MLB record books. We'll address that as well. 40's name was erased this week. But let's bring in our featured guests. All our featured guests are brought to you by Science and Kirk. Injured in an accident, you've got to call Science and Kirk. If you have a phone, you have a lawyer, call 1-800 lawyers or visit, youhavealloyer.com. We welcome in Orioles, outfielder Christian Franklin. Thanks for taking the time. Let me start right away. It was interesting because you never got a chance to make your Major League debut with the Nationals. Then you get dealt to the Orioles and you get that chance right away. So what was it like for you to get that Major League debut finally after paying your dues five years in the minor leagues? And how has life changed for you at the Major League level? Yeah, it's been a lot. Getting traded last year at the deadline, I knew that anything can happen. I got traded probably about an hour before the deadline ended last year and it was kind of similar this year. So I traveled from Rochester, New York to Scranton, Pennsylvania. We were about to play the Yankee affiliate and I was about to sit down and eat with some of my teammates and I got a call from Paul to Boney saying that there was a trade in the works. So whenever you hear that you're getting traded, there's just kind of this moment of just like unknown. But then Matt Blood reached out to me and told me that they were excited that this trade was going down. And then he told me just to wait a second until the deadline was over and then we'll call you back. So that was a little bit interesting, him just telling me that I was going to wait until after things settled down. So immediately my gear started turning. My manager, Matt Lee Croix at the time said you might be going to the big leagues, so just wait and see. So it was just a waiting game and then after the deadline it ended, Eve called me and she told me congratulations on the trade and that she had some other good news and that I was going to be joining the team in Baltimore. So immediately I was just kind of out of loss for words. It had been, like you said, a very long road since I had gotten drafted, thinking that I had a chance with the Cubs and it was kind of blocked over there. And then with the Nationals as well, thinking I had a really good shot, almost making the team out of spring training. And then then calling up DC, doing crews and still thought that I possibly had a chance if there was maybe an injury or if they wanted to call me up, but still was just kind of in a waiting period. So to get traded and kind of have the motions of getting traded and then hearing that I'm going to be making my, you know, we'll go to the big league team. I was like just extremely grateful for, you know, the way that, you know, it worked out and it was a long journey just staying focused, but I mean, I was extremely grateful and getting into Baltimore and here having Eve tell me, you know, even Mike that I was going to be starting that day was unreal, but I was so excited and just grateful, you know, to be there. Unbelievable. Yeah, I did want to follow up real quickly though. How has being in the big leagues changed your life? I mean, again, five years in the leagues, riding buses, not
