[MUSIC] >> Welcome to the What The, Golf Podcast. >> [LAUGH] >> It's a different week every week, folks. >> [LAUGH] >> Right, I'm Eddie, one of your hosts. And over there is my good buddy and best golfer, I know Kevin Craft. How you doing today, Kevin? >> I'm doing all right, I'm awake. It's nine o'clock in the morning, which is a different kind of show for us. And I'm back in the land of the living. Had a couple nights of bad sleep this week for whatever reason, I don't know. I blame the dog. And yeah, so the last couple days have been a little rough. So I slept in all the way till about 6.30 this morning. So that was a good one for me. >> Well, I'm sorry to hear that, I'm glad you're feeling better now. And as you mentioned, we are recording, this is a new recording time for us. I don't think we've ever done a Sunday morning. >> It shows our versatility Eddie, we are able and willing to do what it takes for our listeners. >> That's right, that's right. Normally this time of the week I'm watching this week and then meet the press. >> Yeah, so I can imagine. This is actually a welcome distraction, I'll tell you what. Wherever you sit on the spectrum, I imagine you're probably like me. And you just want this over with. >> Yeah. >> I am ready to be out of the election cycle. It's been over a year, it's driving me insane, it's too much. And can we just be done with it already? >> Amen to that, and that's as close as we'll come to talking politics today, right? >> Yeah, yeah. >> Yeah, well, with that, I think we, like you mentioned, we have a different kind of show today. We're not, we're going to do beers and cheers, but a non-alcoholic addition. And then we're going to talk about our guess, the golf we've played recently. >> Yeah. And is that about it? Is there anything going on in the world of golf we need to discuss? >> I mean, PG tours got a new event this week, the Black Rock Championship. I've only seen a very little bit of it and it really looks cool out there. >> Okay. >> So we can talk about that because I will wax poetic about Utah and might need to go there so we can do that. >> Okay, that sounds good. And then I guess that'll be our show today, but before we get to any of that, I just want to thank our friends Chasing Ace's Golf for sponsoring this show. And I highly recommend that you all go check out their website at ChasingAcesGolf.com. Buy yourself something, buy something for our friends. You can't go wrong there. >> That is absolutely true. We've got some couple of really nice hats, nice polo up there. So yeah, look good on the golf course, people. >> Even if you don't play good, look good. >> That's right. >> [LAUGH] >> So this is, I guess we'll go to beers and cheers. This is kind of a different one since it's 9 AM in the morning. >> Yeah, we can talk about beer and then we can talk about cheer. So yeah, I had, we won't get into the golf itself later, but I had a lot to drink on Wednesday. >> Okay. >> I had a couple nice beverages out on Rattlewood on Wednesday. >> Oh, nice. >> Yeah, so an 8.2 and I think like a 6.8. So they were good, very nice. I needed, I needed the rally beer as a matter of fact. So I'll keep you in suspense until we actually talk about it. But I definitely needed the rally beers. Oh, you've got me, yeah, you've definitely got me excited to talk about Rattlewood. So I'm actually drinking an Arnold Palmer that I put together at Panera this morning. Because, one of my favorite, I'm not a big breakfast person. I know this, a lot of people say, breakfast is the best meal, blah, blah, blah. I think it's, to me, it's the third best meal of the day. I think I'd take dinner first, lunch second and then breakfast is like, to me, I can take it or leave it. Sometimes for breakfast, I'll just have like a banana or like a little yogurt and I'm done. That's it. >> I tend to agree with that. I'm a pack of unheated pop tarts or some version of an encrustable in the morning and that's about it for me. >> Yeah. Okay. So we're in the same page. So there is a breakfast sandwich that I first had at Bandon Dunes. >> I thought you were going to say it was the one that we found at the, in Ocean City, at the bottom of the cup on whatever the water was. >> That was the breakfast sandwich heard around the world right there, folks. >> No, that was great. That was awesome. For people who don't remember what Kevin's talking about, I think that we had two groups of golfers in Ocean City this spring and somebody had the genius plan. Was it like a bagel sandwich? >> It was indeed completely untouched, untouched bagel sandwich like with a egg and sausage and cheese. And was it Ryan who put it like somebody stuck it in the, in the, in the hole? >> I don't know exactly who did what. I was involved somehow there, but yeah, I mean, we, we had to, we had to do something with it. I mean, who leaves a perfectly intact bagel breakfast sandwich at the edge of the green? So I mean, obviously you're not, if you, if you left it that long, you're not coming back for it. So we just figured we'd pass it on to, to you guys. >> That was awesome because it reminded, it definitely reminded me of during COVID when they put the little like foam bottoms. >> Oh yeah. >> Yeah, but this was a full bagel sandwich. Yes. >> Very good. >> But that's actually not the, well, sandwich I'm talking about. >> Okay. All right. Talk about your sandwich. >> It's also golf related though, because I first had it at band and dunes. And so what they, it's at cheap ranch. They've got this, it's a, it's a smoked, I think actually there it's steel head, but I use smoked salmon. >> Okay. >> It's a smoked pork salmon, egg, some onion, cream cheese on a everything bagel. You put it all together, it is an unbelievably delicious combo. >> If you took away the egg, I could probably get on board with that. >> I think you're just talking bagels and locks, then it's just. >> That's exactly right. You hit that nail absolutely on the head. That is, throw some capers on there. >> Yeah, that's, that's breakfast sandwich with the gods for me. >> Yeah. >> Well, what's wrong with the egg? What do you have? >> I don't do eggs. >> I don't do eggs. >> At all. >> No egg. >> I can't say it at all, but if I'm having a, if I'm having an omelet, the egg just needs to be whatever binds all the rest of the ingredients together, because I'm just, I don't like the overall egg flavor. I will eat scrambled eggs if they are like cooked dry, like you stick your fork in them and they actually just kind of go poof and it flies away in a dust. >> Okay. >> So I don't actually eat the eggs. I just stick them with a fork. Yeah, I've just never been an egg guy. No, I don't do, I don't do eggs for the most part. >> Well, what about in Chinese food, like if you're eating fried rice, that's gonna have egg, isn't it? >> Isn't it? >> I do my best to pull it out. >> No. >> And I also don't get fried rice very much, primarily because of that. >> Wow. Okay, well I learned something new. That's a rare, Kevin, it's a rare person, it doesn't like eggs. >> Yeah, I'm a rare bird anyway, so, yeah. >> Okay. >> Adding to my mystique. >> Yeah, I guess so. Interesting. All right, well, I guess I learned something new. Yeah, just not gonna, the whole idea of the breakfast sandwich to me is pretty well lost because they pretty much all just come with eggs and yeah, no, I'm not doing it. >> Okay, all right, well, learn something new, that's interesting. >> Yes. >> All right, well, anyways, I had, I love my breakfast sandwich this morning, so. >> Hey look, Eddie, if I get a breakfast sandwich and it comes with an egg, you can double egg your breakfast sandwich. I will happily provide you the egg off of my breakfast sandwich. >> What would still be left in the breakfast sandwich then, would just be like sausage and a bit. >> Well, if it's on yours, it's- >> Well, that's true. >> Walks, which is awesome. >> That is, it was really good. You know, you know who has the best locks is just, it's the straight up Wegmans, their own brand is so good. >> Is it? >> It is, it is really good. >> Nice. >> Yeah. >> Nice. >> Yeah. >> But I just go for it. I just, I just stick to the Wegmans brand and I've never been disappointed. >> Yeah. >> Wegmans is one of those places that is just, it's, it's kind of hard to be disappointed. I've found their produce to be exceptionally good. They have the best blueberries, we got some blueberries here. >> Yeah. >> Their bakery is unbelievable. >> Agreed. >> One of the reasons why I'm as heavy as I am. And you know, they've got the ones that carry a beer selection, have a pretty darn good beer selection. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> So I'm a big fan of Wegmans, not Inge, but Wegmans. >> You know, the Wegmans there by second swing has a, like a beer and wine store attached to it now. >> Upstairs, yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> That's pretty good. It's actually pretty solid. >> Yeah. >> Actually, I haven't been up to that, which is interesting. I seem to be doing most of my beer shopping actually at Burries. So yeah. >> Well, I can't go wrong there either. >> No. >> No. >> Taste the wares and then buy the wares. >> Nice. >> Yeah. >> All right. Well, I did have some beer stories. So I, we had crabs on Friday night from a guy, actually his name is Guy with Crabs, who my wife met on Facebook, which, when she first told me. >> It's all coming together. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> She just told me she met a guy with crabs on Facebook. I wasn't exactly excited about it, but, but actually I'll tell you, you know, he goes out. It's like a side job for him. He has a regular gig, but on Fridays and Saturdays, sometimes Sunday mornings as well, he goes crabbing on the Severn River. And he catches, so he, you know, catches what he catches, and he sells them. It's all like word of mouth, like friends and Facebook. And I mean, you can't get more fresh than crabs caught that same day down near Annapolis. I mean, it's just unbelievably good. >> Yeah, that's awesome. >> So it's a great, it is a great hookup that we've got with him. And so actually I'm quite happy that my wife met a guy with crabs on Facebook at the end of the day. So we had this Friday night, and I've been drinking this beer. I think it's, I'm going to bring you one and we'll review it. We'll review it soon on the show. It's called, let me know when you're going to bring me one because I've got one to bring you two. >> Gotcha. Okay. We'll hook up this week. >> Okay. >> But it's called steady eddy. Have you ever heard, had that one or heard of it? >> I have not. >> So it's, it's, I think it's union craft brewing, pretty sure it's Baltimore. >> Okay. >> And believe it or not, it's not Eddie me, it's Eddie Murray from the Orioles is like his face and statistics are on the can. And it's like a, um, it's an IPA, but it's like a wheat IPA, which I normally not a huge wheat fan whenever I drink like a half of eyes in her wheat. I just, it tastes to me like dishwasher detergent or liquid and just not a fan of that flavor. But this one doesn't have that at all. It's just a really good, it's just a really good light IPA. And I say like, it's probably like seven and a half percent alcohol, but it doesn't, it doesn't taste that it just tastes like a, like it's one of those IPAs in the middle of the summer, I think would go down pretty easy. >> Nice. >> Yeah, but it went down good with crabs on Friday night. I can tell you that. >> Very good. Very good. >> Yeah. >> All right. We'll review that one soon. Steady. >> Yeah, that sounds good. I got one called, we'll just call it sticky beans. It's, it's going to be a, a heavy, sweet winter, I believe it's a stout, I think. >> Oh, nice. >> Yeah. Thanksgiving. I start drinking this. I got to wait till Thanksgiving. >> Okay. So we can, we can push that one back just a little tiny bit. I just got to buy him when I can, because with evergreen, you just never know when it's, all of a sudden it's going to poof and it's gone. >> That's right. >> So, so we were going to talk a little bit about what we're drinking when we're not drinking beer. I am off the wagon again and back to the world of energy drinks. I've, when, when the, the sun starts going down early and staying in bed early, two things that I typically don't get to do, I get sleepy. So my two hour drives in the morning, there's got to be something that gives me a little bit of a kick in the butt. And so I'm, I'm, you know, normally I'm just a, a red bull in the morning kind of guy. I'm experimenting with some of these others right now, the, the zoa energy drinks, which are, I believe that's a, I think that's a rock, doing the rock Johnson thing. >> Oh, okay. >> Big fan. I think he's cool, dude. >> Yeah. >> They're by one, get one at sheets. So it's very inexpensive to get energy drinks there now. I'm also have a little more soda than I used to. I'm not like, hey, I'm not like. I used to be, I had a 20 year, 10 can of day Mountain Dew diet. So we're not going back to that, but regular diet Mountain Dew, regular, fully let it. Yeah. I'm lucky I've gotten esophagus or a stomach or any of my teeth. Yeah. Cause that was, that was pretty wicked, but man, that stuff went down easy. I quit cold turkey in 2013. I just, you know, I got done with a 64 ounce or that I bought at a, at a gas station when I took, when I went into work in the morning and I was like, okay, I'm done. I was, it was like, it was like forest gump out running out West and all of a sudden he's just like, all right, now I'm tired, I'm done. So that's how I quit Mountain Dew and I have not had a single Mountain Dew since I did try for a very, very, very short period. Uh, I tried the diet Mountain Dew thing and it just did not work for me. I didn't like it. It just did not click. I ended up from there, uh, going to diet coke and then diet Pepsi and then off to energy drinks and then kind of circle around back through most everything I've gone on. Uh, little runs where I've been just drinking, uh, Gatorade and if you've noticed anything that really has not been a long run of water in here, um, I'm still clinging to the fact that water is the base for all of these beverages. So it's not like I'm not taking in water. Um, so yeah, so there's, there's that and then I'm beer when I can. Okay. Yeah. So how was the Zoa compared to like, uh, Red Bull cause I'll, I'll tell you, I drink Red Bull probably once a week when I'm really, when I'm really dragging and I just that picked me up, maybe it's like, I got to get the work or, you know, got to get the kids, uh, you know, football game or soccer game, like that's when I'll crack open a Red Bull. Do you drink the regular or do you drink one of the flavors? Just the regular. I've tried like, I tried one of the flavors. Uh, I think on your recommendation, in fact, and I couldn't do it. It was too much. Yeah. Yeah. I'm more of a flavors guy. I, the, uh, what is it? Tanger strawberry tangerine or stan, strawberry Clementine, something, something like that. Something orangey along with strawberry is the one that I drink the most. Uh, I've tried the zero sugar version and the regular version, the zero sugar versions of anything. I don't care what it is. They all have that, Hey, I'm fake aftertaste, right? Yeah. And that's the problem I've got with the Zoas, uh, just like any of the others. There's zero calorie, which is, you know, good for a fat kid like me. Well, sorry. This is 10 calorie. Still good for a fat kid like me, but, uh, yeah, it's, uh, it's just that aftertaste is just not, I don't know, it's just not my favorite. Um, I've ordered some stuff off the internets, uh, to try some stuff and add the flavors of just not been, not been particularly good. So I don't know. I'm in search of the world's best kung pao chicken and I'm now in search of the world's best zero or very low calorie energy drink, I guess. We'll just add it to the repertoire. So it's not an energy drink, but it is zero calories there. I'm like addicted to these, uh, bubblies. Have you ever had a bubbly? Oh, the buble. Yeah. Yes. So I have a problem with a lot of those two, I have a lot of problems with a lot of things. Uh, they are, they're, they're bubbly, which I like. I like the, I like carbonation. That's, that's something I definitely, uh, appreciate. The problem is most of these things are like they've waved a fruit over top of it and said that this is the essence of an orange, right? Right. And it's like, it's like they took the orange, they dropped it in the vat. They pulled it back out. This was not a peeled orange. They just dropped it in, pulled it back out. And that was all the flavor you're going to get. And to me, that's just gross. It's like, I don't use a, do you drink, do you take lemon in your water? I do. In fact, I do not. Okay. Because if I want water, I will drink water. If I'm going to drink lemonade, I'm going to drink lemonade. I do not want a water that has had a lemon, waved over it and then stuck to the side of the glass. That does, that just does not do it to me. It's like, it's like drinking bud light or something like that. It's, it's, you know, wow, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's minus the urine smell of the bottom. It's got a real beer, you know, waved over top of it. Okay. That's, that's, that's all that is. So I'm not, I'm not agreeing with you there. I, I got to say, like, so the, the bubblies, like the thing I like about it is it, it takes the place of water. There's no artificial sweeteners in there. You agree with that. It's just, it's just, like you said, it is the essence of whatever fruit. The ones I really like is just the lemon lime where it, like, if you're really thirsty instead of water and you have one of those bubblies, it, it gives you the flavor of the fruit without all the sugar that you would have if you had like a seven up or a sprite. And I just, I love that. I think it's, I think they're delicious. Yeah. You know, it's the idea of, hey, there are real beverages out there and then we are going to make a faux version of that beverage and we're going to be like, we're great. You know, it's, it's, to me, it's the non-alcoholic beers, you know, it's, it's, there's real beer. And then there's these non-alcoholic versions and there's a real soda. And then there's these essence of soda things. I'm not buying it. I'm just not buying it. I'm in or I'm out. There's, there's, I mean, I mean, I mean, they're going for it or I'm laying up. There's nothing in between. All right. Final, final thought on this and I actually started doing this this year in Scotland on my golf trip because, um, a broad actually they like sparkling waters a lot more common than it is here. And so what I was doing was I was filling up my water bottle with half sparkling water, half. It's called like, it's something like it's like Lusatorade or something, like Gatorade. Lucusade. Yeah. Yeah. So it'd be half a Lucusade, which is like their version of Gatorade and half sparkling water. And I'm telling you that combo was delicious. Cause sometimes like Gatorade or Lucusade, like sometimes you're just a little too sweet for me, but you like cut it with the sparkling water. Oh my God. That's so delicious. And you get the bubbles like you're talking about. I can, I can understand that, right? Yeah. Yeah. Because you've taken, you've taken two real things and combined them rather than having one real thing and then trying to fake it, right? It's, I'm way more on board with what you've got going on there than any of these other things. Yeah. I've, I've never seen somebody so, um, I mean, I've seen people like, yeah, it's not my thing, but I've never seen somebody so opposed, adamantly opposed. Yeah. I'm, I'm just out. Some flavored water. Okay. No. No. If I want lemonade, I'm drinking lemonade. I want water. I'll just drink water. All right. And you're never going to, and you never want eggs. So I got, I really don't want eggs. Yeah. All right. This is, uh, well, we're about 20 minutes into the show, Kevin. Do you want to start talking some golf or, uh, we could do that. And that was, you know, we're just living up to our, our building as a, as a food podcast. It's all good. This, this is true. Well, hey, I normally start. Why don't you start? Cause you, you choose this with something, something happened at Rattlewood apparently. Yeah. Sure. So I've got a, I got a couple of things in my golf world, um, cool. Went out and played at Rattlewood and I went to Rattlewood for a particular reason. Uh, I have a pretty solid history, most of the time of, of performing fairly well at Rattlewood. And, you know, I needed a little, I needed a hug. I needed a little, I needed a little, I need a golf course to put its arm around me and just say, Hey man, it's going to be all right. It's going to be okay. Because I looked back at my history in gin, not G, I N G H I N. Yes, I am a gin drinker, but in this case, it's the, the handicap service that do you like the flavor, gins? I mean, look, um, I usually drink straight, uh, a regular plane gin. I've had the lime infused, which wasn't bad, um, but I would rather use real tonic water with real gin, with a real lime and put enough of that lime in there that you know that it's a legitimate lime, not just waving it on top of it, no, just not, no, you were not waving it over the top and saying, Hey, essence, essence, get in there, get it, get that essence in there. No, no. So anyway, I looked at my, my numbers and I have only shot two rounds in the sixties since the, the U S senior, okay, that ain't good for me. Um, well, it was not more than, that's two more than all of us have had that's listening right now. Oh, these things are all right. Yeah, I know. So I'm, I'm like, okay, I, I need to, I need to go play someplace so that I can, I can hopefully, you know, start making some birdies. So we go to rattlewood and we get out there and it's, it's a little chilly, right? It's time here starting to, starting to cool off a little bit. And what's more, it's quite windy. Ah, yeah. and I played with, uh, David Coe, sure. And Ryan Damolucci, nice and Doug McElvain also from the shop. So, um, I get to the driving range and David informs me that there will be like four holes downwind all day. Yeah, that sounds about right. Yeah. He's already done. He's already done all the calculations. Right. Yep. And, um, yeah, so we're standing on the range of, we're pounding balls back into the wind. I got seven iron going about 120. This is the first time I've used the new irons on the golf course. Oh, wow. And I'm like, oh, this is going to be interesting. So off we go. And I had an, I had an okay day, uh, it played relatively challenging for, for rattlewood. Um, I did not, I hit the ball solidly off the tee, just not great directionally. So I only actually hit four fairways. It's good news about rattlewood is unless you're like in certain spots, you're probably still okay. And I wasn't missing by a ton, but, um, it only hit four fairways. But I hit 16 greens in regular, no, 14 greens in regulation and two fringes. So I had potter in my hand 16 times. Nice. So that was good. Um, part one made a 65 footer for birdie on two. Excellent. Yeah. Perfect. Perfect line. Perfect speed. It was one and two into the wind. Yes. I think, you see, I think one is a sneaky hard hole. It doesn't look like much on paper, dude, I pulled my tee shot. I got to the top of my backswing and my stomach started growling because I did not have a breakfast sandwich in the morning. So my stomach started growling in the middle of my back, my downswing. And I kind of started laughing about it and I hooked my tee shot. I hit seven iron in to number one. So you know, it, I had one 64 was slope and then the wind back into our faces. So I ended up hitting seven iron and knocked it on green, but it was kind of funny. It's hard to hit golf shots when you're laughing and it's kind of hard not to laugh when you're stomach, like, audibly starts grumbling in the middle of your downswing. So it was an interesting combination there, proceeded to three putt the third hole for par. Oh, yeah. So you got there in two though. That's pretty good. I did. Yeah. I mean, pretty decent tee shot hit five iron in, rolled all the way to the back head about 50, probably 50 feet. And I thought I hit a pretty good putt and it got to the hole and I was like, oh, that's going to go about four feet by it rolled all the way off. No, it was right. So Wow. We're the green really fast. They were good. They were probably rolling 10, 10 and a half. So okay. They were good. Like, I'll tell you what, overall, the way they keep, keep the courses Montgomery County. They're really very good. Really, really, very good. Yeah. I mean, Radlewood's been a consistently good place to go practice and play. When they do verify, they heal quick. They do a good job with their, with their sanding and so they remain playable even during those periods. So kudos to them for that. I think they do a really good job. So golf course was in really good shape. So then I ended up bogeying and I parred for bogeyed five, which is ridiculous. I had 77 yards straight downwind and was in the left rough and I tried to hit a high soft floating shot that landed on the front of the green so that it would run back to the, the back pin and I missed the, I missed the front. I came up short and I chipped it to about four feet and just powered it right through the, through the break and, and missed. So that was my only bogey of the day. Really? Yeah. So I turned right back around birdied, or birdied six, actually played seven competently. I hate that whole, I really do it. The smart play is to just take like a four hybrid or if it's back into the way into two hybrid and just lay up to the one 50 marker. Right. But I don't ever do that. So I tried a, tried ripping a little, little fader three wood, which cut about 14 inches, I think, and just ran through into the, into the rough. I had to flight, flight down and hit a little draw with a sandwich to get it around the edge of the trees. Sure. So that was all right. And then I, I ended up paring eight and nine. So I shot, I shot one under on the front. Okay. So the David Co was having, he was having a moment. And when, when the, the cart girl came around, she got to us at number nine T, both, or sorry, number eight, eight green beers and fireball came out. So a shot was done throughout the group. And then I started with my 8.2% IPA. And from that point, things got better. The rally beer worked very nicely. So it worked for David too. That and a switch away from his tea club. David's been in the weeds with driver lately and, you know, I, I lovingly nicknamed him Captain Hook at one point and, and the captain said, ah, hi, mateys. And show it made his, made a very big appearance on the front nine. It was disgusting. Very bad. And he switched to mini driver and hit it much, much, much, much, much, much better on the back. Okay. So yeah. Good. He shot very poorly on the, on the front and, and pretty good on the back actually. So it's amazing what you can do and you're not hitting snipe hooks off every single tee shot. It's helpful to not do that. Yeah. For sure. I found that. Yeah. So just a quick one on the back nine. I, a part 10 kind of got it a little left off the tee. I thought I crushed it and it just, I mean, it was out there. Okay. But dead back into the wind. I didn't have an angle. Couldn't really go for it. It was laid up with a four iron hit a wedge in and two putted part 11, part 12, which is always good playing two 25 back into the wind. So that was a good one. Pard 13. And then drove it just over the right edge of the green on, on 14. I could see you doing that. Yeah. That makes sense. Yeah. It was a good one. And made birdie there. So the, does that get you to two under? Yes. Okay. Then I went for it on 15 and also hit this one left. So I just left myself in a position where I could not, I could not get a shot close. So made part of their came up just short left on 16 and chipped in nice. So that was cool. That's awesome. In the match that we had, that was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back, I think. And then Pard 17 and then drove it about 15 yards short of the green on 18 with a three wood and, and I just got up a couple of beat and made birdie there. So the 14, 16, 18 birdie combination got me to four under and a successful six in front on the score this time, that's awesome mission accomplished. I have one month until Q school. So yesterday I got in early and went about a little bit of a practice slash speed session. And in doing so, I actually, I had some, some pretty good stuff. So I'm going to put this up on our page right now. Yeah. I think you put that up on, on your personal page yesterday, right? I did. Yeah. I noticed. So this will go up on our, on our page now. So 68. I mean, that's, that, that's the confidence boost you were looking for. It was. Yes. I need a couple more to, to kind of like cement it into my brain and then I will have a sense of, okay, I'll be, I should be good to go. And I'm now reminding myself why it is I normally talk about my rounds of golf before we turn to you. So, but before I get to my lame rounds and, but I did want to ask about Q school a little bit. So I know he said, that's about a month away, almost exactly. And I know you've got two rounds coming up in Ocean City the week after next. Yes. I actually have, I have a round scheduled on Wednesday in Scottsdale. Just Wednesday. Yeah. I'm going out to, we, we do a, and pretty much an annual ping training trip for a lot of, a lot of our fitters. And as I am now involved in the training and certification of our fitters, I'm going out doing a little bit of presentation and kind of training stuff for that. Nice. This will be the fifth time I've been out to ping. And so, but they are, they're having us play on, I guess it's Thursday, not Wednesday. It's Thursday, Wednesday is all day at ping. And then we do training in store Thursday, Friday. So got to fly out with my golf clubs. That'll be, that'll actually be good. I'm, I'm kind of looking forward to that and playing, I think McDowell mountain ranch. I have not played that one out there. So should be good. Get a chance to, to tee it up this week, even though I'm going to be on the road. And Monday, when I get back the 21st, one of our, our newer employees at second swing, Ryan McGarry, who's a very good player, just finished sixth in the mid Atlantic amateur at Columbia Country Club. Oh, wow. He and I are going to play a two man at Worthington that is nine holes best ball, nine holes scramble and nine holes alternate shot. Wow. Ryder. He'll turn it. Shot. So I made the comment many years ago that you should not play alternate shot with somebody that you like, because there's a distinct possibility that you may not like them very much at the end of the day. We have agreed that there shall be no apologies and golf is hard and we will just go do our thing and we will play as best as possible. Sounds like fun. He's a good stick and I feel like there's a, a legitimately decent chance that we can go into this thing and do very well. Nice. Yeah. And when is that again? That's Monday, the 21st. 21st. Okay. And then Ocean City at the weekend, which will be great. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. Looking forward to that Friday, Saturday. Yes. Nice. And then what are the, what are the T times Friday, Saturday, by the way, they're like mid morning, like 11, 10, 10, 45, 11, something like that. So that, you know, get a little different than our last station city trip where it's like, you know, wake up early, play 36, then fall, then collapse. This is like much more leisurely, like one tea time, nice and, nice and chill. So I'll send you the T times though. Okay. Cool. Cool. Yep. Very good. And so then, okay. So that brings us to the end of the month. And then Q school is remind me the dates. So it'll be Mississippi, Sausier, Mississippi, the 13th through the 16th of November. Okay. All right. Wow. That's. That's exciting. I can't wait to, is it now, is it just, is the whole thing done there? Like, is it, that's not like different stages? Like it's just two stages. This is first stage. Yeah. There's three, there's three first stages across the country. There's one in California, one in Mississippi and one in Florida. I would love to go to the one in Florida. However, all the hardest holes and all the big scoring holes, i.e. the par fives, all work left to right. My shot works right to left. I cannot go against nature and for, you know, all those holes and try to fight my way through it. That's just not, just can't do that. So that one was out. I looked at California and California looked pretty good. It was just going to end up costing a lot more than I wanted to, to end up dishing out. So got it. In Mississippi it is. I went there. I got out of there two years ago. I went, I got, I made it to finals two years ago there. So I know, of course, it's tough, at least it's tough under tough conditions anyway. The wind was up and it was really cold when we were there and I guess it was even worse last year though, if you Google, "Hey man, what's the weather like in Mississauga or Mississippi in November?" It says the average high is 71 degrees. I haven't seen anything within 30 degrees of that yet. So I feel like I am owed and do a, a good week in Mississippi. Yeah, definitely. And then the other part of that is the food down there. Yeah. The seafood. Yeah. I bet. I bet. Oh man. You're making me hungry. Go get yourself a breakfast sandwich. I've already had it. Well that's awesome. That's awesome. I really look forward to being part of your prep for that in Ocean City. Yeah. Yeah. That's going to be, that's going to be really good. I need the, I need the reps for sure. So that's the timing is excellent. All right. Well, I guess maybe I'll talk a minute or two about my golf. Yeah. Let's, let's hear it. Let's hear it. All right. So I played two rounds recently, one last weekend at Needwood, which I think for you, it's Rattlewood. Oh, I agree. Rattlewood is the easiest course. Well, I don't know if it's the easiest course. It's, it's scoreable. If you're, it's scoreable, if you, if you're putting well, which you apparently did because you made a bunch of birdies. But I think Needwood might be easier. And it's definitely handicap adjust handicaps as it is. It's like, from the tips, it's 68.8 over 122. So Needwood's a course that I like to go to when I'm struggling because like, I feel like even if I don't play great, I can still break 80 there. And so I'm not going to bore you with everything, but I will say I started with a double bogey, which didn't like, didn't put me in the best mindset. And let me also remind you, this is now, we're going back a little over a week. We had just completed like a record breaking 11 straight days of rain in the area. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I can tell you from personal experience, mowing my, mowing them lawn at my house and then seeing what they had at Needwood, I don't blame them. But the course was an awful shape. And the reason like the, the fairways were like, at best, they were like first cuts. Ah, yeah, I can see that. Yeah. So, I mean, lots of, actually at times I got a couple of flyer lies out of the fairway. Yeah. Which not, not ideal. And I don't, and I'm pretty bad at predicting when I'm going to get a flyer. So yes, I airmailed a couple of greens on the front side. But anyways, I, I helped things together and shot a 40 on the front after starting with a double. So just a, I had a, like, I think I had a stretch of like five cars in a row at one point. So anyway, so I finished, I'm actually now, I'm actually now in a pretty good mood. Um, because, you know, I think, you know, the back side's only a par 34. It is the harder. It's definitely the harder and more interesting nine holes at me. It is. Yes. For sure. Yeah. And, um, so I'm, I looked though, like walking from the ninth to the 10th tee. And I noticed two groups and they're sitting there on the 10th tee box and they were not the groups in front of them. They were not the group in front of us. Yeah. And we were like, we had a great, it was, it was a, it was three. Well, my dad and my, and, you know, Tom, um, so it was my dad, Tom and me, and we got matched up with another guy who just, we, we were having a good, we were clicking. It was a good group. Yeah. It is a good mood. But then it's like, and we were moving. We never had the weight. We saw the group ahead of us. We saw the group behind us, but we, everybody was in their own zone, like the pace of play was ideal. Yeah. And then to stare down the 10th tee box and see two groups. And I was just like, I, I, I, I, I didn't know what was happening because it, well, again, like I said, it wasn't the group in front of us. I'm like, did they send people off on the backside on like a Friday afternoon? Like why would they do that? Yeah. Anyways. So we kind of like, we're, we're making noises, rumblings. Right. And the group, like one of the guys came up and said, Hey, um, yeah, sorry about this. Like we stopped in for lunch after the front nine, like the eight of us. So but we're playing a best ball. So don't worry. You won't be waiting on us. And I was like, okay. And we've let it go, but we literally sat on a T box for like half an hour. And what do you think I did when I finally did get the T up half an hour later? Oh, God. Do you remember there's a pond on the right is a pond just just to the right? It's like it guards. Yeah. Because it guards the 18th green. Yeah. Yeah. Well, it also, it also guards against the really bad T shot at, Oh, Eddie, that's not even in play, man. Yeah. You know, you can't shank, you can't technically shank a driver because it doesn't have a hosel, right? Actually, we got it. We got a driver in at second swing the other day that does a hosel, which is because then you can. But yeah. Okay. Well, you call it what you will. It sure looked it, it walked like a shank, it talked like a shank and it splashed in the pond like a shank got you. So I retie and I actually part of the second ball, so it's a double bogey. But not, you know, those are not bad double bogeys when you retie, right? I mean, it's better than the alternative. It is. It is. Yeah. Yeah. So. Anywho, I was kind of like, I, I, on the, on the back of that, I mean, I was, I was very, I was very frustrated because I did feel like I felt like the circumstances affected my mental game there and, and, and I was, I was very frustrated, but I, I refocused. I was, I was back in it and I started, you know, it was a mix of pars and bogeys, but I got to walk you to the end. So 16th hole there. I think it's, I think 16 may be the hardest hole in the course. Um, yeah, 422, it's the T shots uphill, then it bends a little left and goes down the hill to the green, but there's a pawn to the right. So there's just a lot of area for trouble there. And for like, for you, Kevin, I bet, I mean, did you even hit driver there or would you hit like a three would just to get to the top of the hill? Probably just a fair way would. Honestly. Yeah. Okay. And, and, but you know, obviously you're longer hitter. So I could see this not being as challenging for you, but for me, I mean, it takes like, even if I hit my best drive, I still got like a mid or long iron in, um, and I did not hit my best drive this time. So I, it was a little bit like a David co captain hook shot where I hooked it left and miraculously did not hit a tree though. And it went all the way through the trees to the 17th hole. All right. Yeah. And I had, I've lasered it. I had like 190, but it was downhill and I had a clear shot. As long as I got the five, it was a five iron, I was going to hit as long as I hit that five iron up in the air high enough, I could clear the trees and get close to the green, I thought. Okay. I pulled off. It was, it was a shot of the day for me at the time. Nice. And I hit it to the back fringe actually. Wow. Yeah. It was, it was, that was, it was just, it was perfect. I mean, it was, it was, it was one of those, you know, when you, when you hit it and you know, you flushed it and it's just a matter of like, what's, where is it going to wind up? Right? Yeah. Which was, you know, I love par on that whole, always put the smile on my face. So I bogey 17 and I get to 18 and I do, I do the quick math and I realize I need a par to break 80. The first seven. You know, okay. Right. So I step up on the T box. My driver's been shaky all day and I sliced it into like, it's, it's not all the way to the 10th fairway, but it's, it's up, it's up in the trees. And I maybe, maybe I hit it to 10, to 10, to, to 15, to 20, something like that. Cause it was, it was a slice. So it didn't go anywhere. So I've now got a decision to make. Do I punch out, like try to punch it down the fairway 75, 100 yards to then try to get up and down? Or do I try to pull off a banana fade or slice with a three wood? Cause I have like 220 left over the pond and then hope that I skip it up to the green. Kevin, any idea what I chose to do? I'm guessing at this point you were, you were motivated by insanity and you went for the three wood. Correct. Yeah. And I, and I, and I, and I remember it, like what went through my mind, I remember back in the day, long, long time ago, back when David Pells was with Phil Mickelson, he said, do you remember him telling Phil, like, if you think you can pull off the shot six out of 10 times or more, you go for it. And I looked at this lie. I'm in the rough, um, acorns are all around the ball and, and, and I've got branches hanging over me. So I'm going to not only play the low banana slice, I've got to keep it low to be get, I've got to keep it low to, so it doesn't get knocked down by branch. Yeah. And I thought to myself, I don't think I could pull this shot off like one out of a hundred times, but I'm still going for it. What the hell? Right? And I committed to the shot. I hit it. It felt pure. I look up the ball starts way, way left and it's slicing right towards the middle of the green bounces up just right to the front fringe of the green. No kidding. Yep. Pin was pin was 15 feet on, almost made the birdie putt, tapped in for par and I'm telling you, Kevin, that was the shot of the year for me. Yeah. And it had had the fairways, not been soaking wet and thick, like that ball would have ran up. It would have ran up onto the green. No doubt in my mind. Yeah. And I'll tell you the guy, the guys, well, obviously my dad and Tom, but the other guy who we've not met before, he was just like that. He's like, he's like, Eddie, that's the best shot I've seen all year. Because everything was awesome. It was so cool. It was so cool. It's like, it's one of those, it's always good to hit a great shot, but like this one, so many things. I had to do so many things right at the right time. Yeah. That, that definitely put a smile on my face sleeping that round. That's awesome. How's, how's the progmaster playing these days? Okay. So, progmaster's playing good, not great. Okay. So, he's got everything going. He just can't seem to get it under 90 right now. So he's, he's always under a hundred. I mean, he's like, I mean, even when he's playing a bad round now, he's like walking off, he's like, oh, 93. And I'm like, that used to be a great round for you. Yeah. And, and now you're frustrated. But, you know, he's, he's playing well, he actually, we did, we got it the little Bennett, which, yeah now, Kevin, yes, yes, that your, your name came up at least once every two or three holes. And, and I think both my dad and me do agree with you that it's, it's not Moby Dick. It's, it's just Dick at this point. But yeah, I, I don't know, I don't know what to say other than there's, there's like, there's a fairway. What is it? Number number seven, the seven T box and great. I'm playing from the tips. Okay. Um, I can't forget about hitting that fairway. I can't remember the last time I didn't have to take a penalty on that shot. Good. I thought I hit a good drive this time. Like, I, it started towards the tree line on the left and it was fading. And I'm like, once I saw it fading, I'm like, oh, I'm, I'm good. I think I'm going to be fairway. It hits just left of the fairway and then catches the slope and brings it all the way back into the tall grass and the trees on the left. I found my ball. I was able to take the drop, but it's still a penalty. It's like, I cannot, um, I cannot hit that fairway to save my life right now. I'm, it's a tough, it is, it is, but, um, I'm telling you, I'm going back there tomorrow. Oh my God. I can't, it's like, at this point, I, I feel like I've got to play a good round of golf at little Bennett. I can't, I can't give it up until I do. Yeah. So I'm just not going to do it because I just don't think I'm going to, like, I've, I've broken par there. Yeah. And I'm just going to consider that conquer and we're going to, we're just moving on to other golf courses. Yeah. I, I don't know. I was, I was texting with Paul yesterday and I told him, I think it's the hardest course in the area and he, he kind of disagreed, although, you know, he conceded that I'm probably playing it from the blues and he, and he plays it from the whites, but I mean, what do you think Kevin? Is it, is it hard or do you just think it's unfair and just not worth it? Yeah. I don't think it's unfair. I think the greens are very challenging. And I think that there are certain spots on the golf course that invite you to hit shots that you probably shouldn't hit. And I am occasionally susceptible to these invitations and, um, you know, that's, I tend to, I tend to do things I probably shouldn't do. So, uh, I just, I just have a hard time maintaining quality sanity all the way through the golf course and, um, invariably due to, you know, some of the extreme elevation changes, you, you make a mistake and then that compounds and you make more mistakes and then you're like, I just got dicked. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I, I, you know, you know, I think nine and 18 on that course are pretty challenging. And this is, I'm, I'm going to, this is the positive I'm going to take. I had smooth pars on both of those, hit both greens with those two holes. Like those two holes do not give me any issues. Okay. What's the, what, what, what's the, uh, number one freaking hate it absolutely despise number one. The most annoying par five I have ever played outside of, um, the, the one hole at the university of South Florida's golf course. I can't remember the name of the hole. It's okay. Even more annoying because you have to hit like three iron, three iron, five iron because the way it, it, it goes, you can't hit a driver. You can't do anything. Yeah. And you still have to hit like five iron into your third shot. Stupid. Yeah. I hate number one. I hate it. All right. Um, and that kicks off the whole round, right? I mean, you're standing there on the first tee and you're going, I hate this hole. Well, what usually happens when you're standing there going, I hate this hole. I don't ever play this whole well. You don't. You know, I've been in perfect position and three putted. Yep. I've been in perfect position and two and missed the green and it just, it just compounds Yeah. No, I, I, I understand I'm, I'm not a fan of it either. It's, it's almost 600 yards. It's mostly uphill and yeah, and the green is tricky. So Kevin adding add up my 18 holes. I had eight, one putts Oh, with eight, one putts. I still did not break 90. Oh, you got decked. Yeah. Yeah. I did. I did indeed. And, um, yeah, I, I, I, I don't know. I don't know what to say other than I'm going back there tomorrow and band aids and some gauze. Maybe something for a tourniquet. It's funny. I, I said I'm never playing this course again about a dozen times during the rounds. And like within 24 hours later, I'm like, yeah, I'm texting my dad. I'm like, Hey, let's go back there on Monday. Good. Now I just can't see the, uh, I can't see the sense in that when there's, when there's so many other good golf courses around and again, I have no, I like little Bennett. I like the golf course. I like the people. I like the area. I like everything except the way I play it. So I'm just not going to go play it. So, you know, go to Worthington. Well, I'm, I'm giving it one last shot here. Kevin, this is this. This is it. Like if I, you know what they say about gambling, don't, don't chase the loss. Yeah. All right. Don't double down and just, yeah, you're chasing your losses here. I absolutely am. Yeah. You are. It's kind of like, it's like hair of the dog, you know, so no, because hair of the dog is designed to be something positive, but you're just delaying your inevitable. I'm sorry, man. You're going a full red rocket on this one. You are looking to get dicked. So I'll report back a lot. If you, I tell you what, if, if you come back under 90, I will be impressed. Whoa. What do you, what do you, are you saying I'm not going to break 92 rounds in a row? Come on. I'm saying, I'm saying there's a chance. If you come back under 85, you can play this golf course again. Okay. All right. Here's what I'm going to do, Kevin. If you come back under 80, I'll go play this golf course with you again. Ooh, now you give me something to shoot for. Okay. There's, there's where we're at. Okay. So, okay. Here's what I'm going to do. I'm, I'm recording. I'm going to record like kind of like chasing scratch style. Okay. Yeah. I'm going to record some tomorrow. And yeah, I'll, I'll play it, but we'll play it for the listeners next week. Okay. The next week show. Okay. Sounds like a plan. Good luck. Thank you. Thank you. Um, well, anything else? I mean, that's anything I, did you want to talk about the new, I mean, that's pretty much all I got really. I mean, PGA tours got a new event this week. I haven't seen any of it yet. I'm hoping to watch a little bit of it this afternoon. Um, Utah looks amazing. Um, on track, man, we have some courses that have been added that are out in Utah. I want to go out there. I, I, I want to go out there for like a week and just play some of these amazing looking golf courses. Just incredible. I played out there when I was on corn fairy tour, but we were in Salt Lake City. Salt Lake City's cool. Don't get me wrong, but these are like out away a little bit and it just looks amazing. I want to go out to Zion. I want to see some of the national parks. It just looks cool. And I know you got the, you got, you got a little bit of weird out there, but, um, the golf courses look phenomenal. So, well, Kevin, I've got a family member that lives out that way. So I might maybe, uh, let's, let's talk, let's talk to see if we can make that happen. Cause that's, I'll tell you it's, it's been on my radar for a while now. Okay. And, and what I, what I have heard is that not only do they have some incredible golf courses, but they're quite reasonably priced when compared to the other golf destinations in the U S. So it could be a win. Cool. Yes. That could be a win win. All right. All right. Steve's doing it. Something figured out there. Awesome. Nice. All right. Well, anything else. We're going to call it a wrap. I think that's a wrap. All right. No eggs. No eggs in that wrap though. Nope. And no flavored waters either. Right. No flavored waters. Okay. Oh, wait. You, you mentioned the, um, one last thing you're mentioning the, um, the golf tournament you want to watch this afternoon, they, uh, in addition to that, the Ravens commanders play at one today. So by the time the show gets, is that throw ball? Yeah. That's the throw ball. Yep. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. We're on an international break on the, in the Premier League right now. So like all the international teams are playing total snoozer for me is what it is. Oh, I will say that, uh, Mauricio Pocatino, who has taken over the U S men's national team did get his first win last night. I have not seen the report on it yet. So I'll have to check that out, but anything that makes the U S men's national team better is a good thing. As far as I am concerned, well, that's great. All right. Especially with the World Cup coming, yeah, we're going to have to go to that. We're going to have to go, we're going to have to go to a game. We're going to have to go to a match there here in D C. We need to do it. Yeah. It's one of the venues. Yep. All right. Let's see who's, who's coming and what, uh, what it, you know, what it looks like. It's going to be a good one or not. I would love to see England play, um, since I, since all the soccer that I watch really is English based, I know more of the players and, and most of the English national team. So that'd be really cool, but I don't, it could be, it could be playing in California for all. I know. So we'll see. Yeah. Well, we, we shall see. And, uh, I would definitely be interested in seeing, uh, real football match as opposed to the throw ball. Yes. I, I am excited about the throw ball match between Baltimore and Washington today. Hey, my Cleveland Indian guardians, uh, made the AlCS yesterday, they beat Detroit Tigers and have advanced the AlCS. That's really cool. I mean, I spent so much of my life in Ohio and, and a bunch of time in Cleveland. So, you know, my born and raised in Ohio, but my whole family is from Massachusetts. So I've typically become a, you know, I've been a, a Red Sox fan or a Patriots fan or a Bruins, though I don't even really watch hockey, um, Celtics, you know, all that. But the Cleveland teams, you know, I, I, I always root for the Cleveland team. So even though I don't follow any of this stuff anymore, uh, very cool to see the Indian guardians in the, uh, in the AlCS and I hope they beat the Yankees cause two of the Yankees. Well, yeah, I mean, that's the only interest I have now that the Orioles are gone is hoping that the Yankees lose. Yeah. There we go. We can all, we can all unite behind the anti-Yankies. I like it. It's good. I think that's, yes. We, we can unite. So perfect. All right. Well, with that, I just want to thank you Kevin for doing the show today and getting up early and, uh, not drinking beer. Yeah. Well, you know, the Ravens game is coming up here in a few hours. So it's only a few hours before, uh, I will be cracking open some beers. Fair enough. Yeah. So, but let's see. What do I have to say, um, thanks for listening. Check out our friends. Yep. Check it. Check it. Check it out. Chasingasis golf. Yep. At chasingasisgolf.com. Check them out on Instagram. Also chasingasis golf. Check us out at Instagram at what the golf podcast. Check out my driver's swing speed. Check out Kevin's driver's swing speed, which is a little faster than mine. A little faster than the product masters. Maybe if you combine my swing speed and the product masters swing speed, we get close to Kevin's swing speed. So you guys, you guys would take me down. Okay. We take you down. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, um, what else? Oh yeah. Email us. You show ideas. Uh, what the golf podcast at gmail.com? Give us talking points. Give us something to review. Yes. Send us products to review. Fine. For heaven's sake. We will review any products you send us. Yes. Indeed. Send us golf swings. I promise Eddie won't review those. I will do those. Yeah. That sounds good. Well, I think that's it. Kevin, do you want to read us out as always? I will as always. All right, folks. Cheers to everybody. Uh, golf is hard. I don't know if anybody's noticed this, but, uh, I get reminders of it every single day whether I'm working or whether I'm playing, but it is a game and we are supposed to be having fun. And if we are not having fun, my galley, we are just not doing it right or we are not drinking. No. We will be back. We will be gone. We will be gone. (upbeat music)
