Hello, this is Aaron White from Israel. He's daily Dozen al-Daf. Today's Daf is 'Bovabastrat Daf Nun Zion'. The Gomorrah in Daf discusses a case of somebody who has made an oath that they will not receive Hana'a from somebody else. And the opinion of Rabiliyazah, he says a very interesting case where if somebody says that they will not get Hana'a from a person and that person owns a store, and so he is able to shop there like any other customer. However, if the storekeeper gives him a deal and gives him a better price when he's buying in bulk, that is forbidden, that is a form of Hana'a. And Rashi describes this case, and Rashi says even if this is a form of deal that he gives to all of the other customers, that because you bought in bulk, because you bought 100, I'll throw in one or two more, that is forbidden for this person because that is a form of Hana'a that he is receiving from this person who has taken an oath not to receive Hana'a from. And I thought it's very thought-provoking or striking this idea that there are forms of Hana'a that you receive that somebody is doing is a favour. Well, it's actually they're doing everybody a favour, but the fact it still is a favour for you and it still is a form of Hana'a. The fact you are receiving that, and I think it is thought-provoking something to think about that there are sometimes we only appreciate people or things that are, well, if you do something that's special for me, and only for me, that's something that I'm appreciative for. But if you do it for everybody, maybe we're less appreciative and this opinion of Rabi Lea's is teaching that sometimes we can be receiving a form of benefit from someone else. And even if that person is doing it to other people as well, in the end, they're still doing us a favour, they're still giving us something extra, and it's worth being very appreciative of those kindnesses as well.
