[MUSIC PLAYING] On the sweet show, finding their feet back at step five, we hear of the Belvedere joy boss Billy Hamlin. Once everyone's settled, Dan, and you know, I've already stopped, I'm waiting to stop, I'm whatnot, and you're getting to the grind a bit. Our fans are just to do quite well. And a perfect start to the Ismy league Southeast season. Chef United coach Jess Reacord tells us all about it. We had to go through a rebuilding process, really. You know, we had a lot of players turn up. And we had to pick the bonds out of it, and it's all turned out pretty well, really, for the time beating. Hello everyone, and welcome to this week's episode of the Kent Only podcast sponsored by Sandwich Town Youth FC, where the FA Cup didn't quite go as we were hoping on Saturday. But Monday's draw means that two of the sides we cover will be in the first round, which is a bit of a result, I suppose, aside from that, we've got two and two of which we'll enjoy this week, and some exciting news to bring you as well on this week's show. I'm John Phipps, who, and this is not a euphemism, has lost a banana. Another one that happens to me, and I had a taste of the big time at the weekend, but his heart remains in non-league. It's much odd, of course, how are you, mate? Not bad, not bad. That sounds like a euphemism, euphemism, even, that you've lost a banana. So, where have you lost a banana? Banana banana. I've put the banana in my work bag, brought it to work. I don't remember eating it, but it's not in my bag. OK. As a mortgage, well, as bananas, it just mulches into nothing. One thing is, if it was there, I'd smell it by now, because it's been, like, three or four days. Where was my banana? Have you seen my banana? No, hey, hey. I think it used to be an 80's program on Channel 5, that used to be, wouldn't it? Yeah. What were their names? Are ones used to steal the smarts? Yeah. Oh, you are awful, and all that stuff, anyway. But, yeah, genuinely, I've lost a banana. Dick Emery, that's it. Third world problems again, mate. Yeah, I know. Yeah. Well, you know. OK. Have you been keeping this week? Be busy at work again? Yeah, always busy at work, mate. It's no, no, let up. It was up in London and weekend, as well. No, it's good for you, isn't it? Yeah, it can't confide with being busy. It's always good, mate. It's all fine. It was up in London on Saturday at a very nice time. It was some very nice company, so that was good. And yeah, that's about it, really. Anyway, I'm glad that you left your Billy Big Balls behind to come back and talk to us about one of the football after your big day out on Saturday. Yeah, I was at Gilligan V. Barrow in the Football League. So it was nice to do a football league game, which I do occasionally with Radio Kent. So against Barrow, who are a non-league team, to be fair. I didn't think it was a great standard. Gilligan had a little bit more quality than Barrow, but yeah, it wasn't a great standard. But yeah, back to the bread of battle this weekend, you'd likely to be ramped against Cry. So there you go. No, I don't mind. I look forward to seeing those sides of the weekend as well. Absolutely. I don't think many people will have into both of those games. So I used to, I remember when I was even bigger Billy, when I used to cover Chelsea, as well as doing everything else. So I think I once had a week where I was at three games. One was at Eastbourne Barrow. One was at Stanford Bridge. And one was at Lansing. Now, that, you don't get very often, do you? You're Sussex, boys, mate. You're Sussex, boys. No, you can't. Do you miss the Champions League or is it clear in that again? Do you know what I kind of do? I didn't enjoy that job. I really did. I love doing all the minute by minute stuff. And I made some really good friends doing that. But ultimately, when a full-time job comes along, you have to kind of take it as much as the freelancers. It's great. Father, and I've always got that strength in my body. But I like job security and I like having to go through the tax man, I like when the tax man just takes the money straight away. Well, I don't like it when the tax man takes the money. But I like it when I don't have to do any effort for him to do it, if you know what I mean. But they still do that, you know, people do that, do they? Yeah, yeah, especially now the Champions League is extended. I'd imagine there's even more money involved for him. Oh, yeah, that is true. I mean, because the Missus has been out, so I have been watching the Champions League this evening. And I have to say, TNT, you get rid of James Richardson and bring him up in Keone instead of the experts who have been involved before in the European experts. It's probably one of the worst decisions I've ever made. Because that was a good program they used to do on that. But now they've got Mark. Do I really want to hear what Marking Keone thinks? No. But when, when Horn Castle, Lawrence and Henigstein talk, I, because they know what they're talking about, I had something to it, and Jay Richardson, I believe the best host there is mixed it all together. It was a great show. But now you've got Marking Keone. So there you go. So a lot of one sided games in that as well. So that's one of the things you're realising that, isn't it? Yeah, is it, is it the extra 12 teams would it be? It's only an extra 14, so we just, you know, you play, instead of playing, instead of playing one team, it's terrible. You're going to play two over the course of the season. And, you know, I can't begin to imagine how bad, so I'm bad at Starburst. They've conceded nine goals in their two games, including five against Celtic, you've shipped seven to nine. So who knows what's going on there? Anyway, this is a good one. Yeah, it's a good one. Yeah, it's a good one. Yeah, it's good, it's like, yeah, it's our 307th episode this week. So that's another Ruddy Peugeot. There's also the Uniball SIG 9307 pen, which Marking Speaks Alert is apparently ideal for speedy writing, long essays and note-taking, as it writes, for smooth, flowing, super-eath. This one is also the third non-pulodromic number, to have a pulodromic square, in case you care about that. Anyway, let's go and get started with when you get a nice pen. 'Cause I do. When somebody gives you a pen, you think, "Oh, this is a nice pen," rather than the standard big buyer that I use, it does give you a bit of excitement, I think. I've got some nice pens. I've got one in particular that's quite nice, but sadly, I don't like very much anymore. It's a lost art, isn't it? I mean, as you've proven yourself this week, when we got a long email in, that you just banned the AI and sent me the highlights. It's writing and cohesion are gonna be lost arts, unfortunately, and it makes me sad, 'cause it is nice. I haven't used a fountain pen in many years, but 25 years ago, 30 years ago, when I was at school, and you wanted a good fountain pen, didn't you? Oh, yeah, that thing we used to put the ink on it, you used to pierce it, but then you'd go home, and it'll be all over your shirt, and your mum would shout it, yeah. Do you have all that? Pretty much. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Those were the days, mate, those were the days. Absolutely, the kids today will never understand. Great pen talk, mate, great pen talk, mate. Excellent. Get a nice fruit, and it's something nice about it. Perfect. Let's go over the show then. We'll start by discussing the FA Cup, where despite high hopes for 10 of our sides in action, only three of them made it through, with the others all unfortunately falling short. Those who made it through were made to stone, who snuck past her and Bay thanks to Sky Salmon's own goal, in front of just shy of 2,000 people at Winchesfield. The Tumbajangels had to come from behind to be ordered and hurt in 2-1. And Craig Wanderers has scored three unanswered goals in the second half to see off Hastings. 408 people there, which is bigger than any crowd they manage in their final season of Hayes Lane, but I'll imagine there'll be many more heading through the doors in the next round when Tumbajangels visits. Maystone's reorders are also a Kent Derby against absolutely unanimously, more surely, one of the ties of the round. I mean, if you're only going to have four teams left in the heart, make them play against each other and give us some unbelievable ties, hey? Yeah, let's talk about the other gate. When we saw we had 10 teams through, which I think could have been a record jump for a while, he did look at the draw. The draw was an absolute stinker for a lot of us. And I didn't think we'd get that many through and unfortunately it turned out that way. So yeah, it's nice that they've drawn against each other. But yeah, Maystone against Epstein is a cracking draw. Really good tie. Maystone probably say you're going to be favourites in that one. But in delight for Neil Smith, we had on the show last week against Tumbrich and as well, a little bit of history will be made there. I think when one of those sides goes through, though, Tumbrich got there before in the COVID years, in front of their own fans, they've got a chance of being in the first round of the Cup and having a great season. But yeah, Margate got went out this evening, I see DeHorsham and Atherie play. Yeah, and they would have had a good time the next round as well. So they might be kicking themselves, but yeah, disappointing, but there was some stinkers that ties there. And probably the only one I was maybe shocked about was Sitting Ball 'cause I thought they did well, but Plymouth Parkway did a number on them, which is disappointing, but they've had a good run. Yeah, I did read by Max or several on social media, which looked at the points with a couple of decisions that didn't go their way and just didn't quite get the rub of the green. But as I said last week, I think only Tumbrich Angels and Matesons and Clay Wanderers, that funny enough, the three went through, would not play against teams from a higher level. So it was always going to be really difficult for those teams. But as you say, it's great ties. And I also love the fact that in both those ties, the lower leads team is at home. So it's made stone at home, Clay Wanderers at home, and surely to goodness, I've been to the iPad, we're going to be all over that made something united game, aren't they? It'd be interesting to find out there's probably some other bigger teams in, Mackelsfield are still in, so I don't know who got 10 worth, didn't they? So as I said, they have been to Kent before, but the Mates Dome connection might swing it in there, what in their factor, we'll have to wait and see, but a couple of cracking ties, we'll review them, we'll review them next weekend, we'll next week before they play. But yeah, at least we're guaranteed at least two sides through, John, which is good. But again, I think the glory days of 2023, when we had a load of teams through, it would do well just to pass that over the next few years on the floor. - Well, as we said, we did say last year, we've never had any of our teams get to the first round before. So I did say then, drink it in. So, and you know, we're probably never going to have an FA Cup season like we had last season with Craig Valley drawing against Charlton, Ramsgate making three to the second round and playing Wimbledon, and made suddenly not getting to the fifth round. Unfortunately, I can't see that happening again, even if we do this podcast probably for another 30 years, I think that would be pretty difficult. But going out on Saturday, as we already mentioned a couple of them, but Ramsgate would be before when at Brackley, Chatham lost three-nil at home to Slough, Ashford would be in three to a church, he's 61 when our three-nil at home and split with partway, Dartford lost three-one at Worthy. And as Matt said, Margate followed on Tuesday night, say, loss of two-nil in a replay at Horsham, and they would have been at home to another step 14 if they'd made it through. So, you know, it's frustrating for Margate. I'm sure tonight they're frustrated. I'm sure they probably feel mad that they missed their chance in Saturday when they were in the lead and at home. - Yeah, 20 minutes to go, we're in that Horsham, the league above. Margate had a good season, but now, you know, the stadium a week, you've gone out of both cup competitions. Yeah, they'll be disappointed because that was a... If they could have got through, it'd have been a very good draw for them, and, you know, you're nearly coming up to next year, it'll be 23 years since Margate had been in the first round of the FA Cup and there's a club, that is a long, long time. So, they'll be disappointed with that, but they've had a good season so far, but now, the league will take be a major factor for the men, for a lot of our sides now, you've gone out of the cup, least taking concentrate on the league is a lot of games to catch up on. - Yeah, absolutely. Right, let's move on to the Schuffel now, where it is Groundbop weekend. The third annual Schuffel Groundbop takes place through Friday and Sunday, with a chance there would be ground office to take in six matches over the course of the weekend. Now, it all starts on Friday night, with Snoden hosting Rustle before three games on Saturday, Division I class between Meridian VP and Sooty Beck is at 11 a.m. before you can take in Fabochon's trips to Fisher at three o'clock and round your day off with the Schuffel leaders vis to the athletic, at Holmes, a lot higher than five, at seven p.m. And then the feast of football continues on Sunday with Corinthian hosting here at 11 a.m. before the six and a half mile drive to the other side of the M25 to three things off with Saturn athletic taking on summer as well as at two p.m. It promises to be an excellent weekend of football again, there's some really good games in there for those groundhoppers to enjoy. And with their Sunday morning day at Gage All Farm in mind, I spoke to Ian with the Bellwood joint whilst Bernie Hamlin earlier on today, I started a conversation with their weekend fight back from two goals down to an appointment against Saturn athletic. - To be honest, you're always disappointed to be two-nil down. We defended really well this season. Now, good head off from Harley, always in score against this. Second goal was a bit, it was, I think, the kids on these dips across, needs to loop over Charlie. But then, you know, we had two or three, well, in the game, we have three off the line, one in the first half cup, in the second half. The cup was made a really good save from Ryan Fowler. We should have been two and a half four, we actually went one-nil down, but the dressing room's been a really good place at the minute and, you know, in your art of arts, we set some, me and Jamie's system at half time. If you get one, we think we'll get three. All right, we never got there, we got two. But yeah, we were really pleased with the comeback. Disappointed, really, really disappointed that we didn't take three points, but from being two-nil down at half time, you know, you've got to give the boys a bit of credit for getting back in the game. - I suppose for the up and down start, isn't it, four wins, three, two or three defeats? I guess you're both happy with the wins, but frustrated with the ones you haven't hold on to. - Oh, yeah, massively. Let's be honest, you know, the fabulous room game the other week was just the nightmare getting down there, like the end, the end, the end, two were sharp, and it was just an absolute nightmare getting down there. Whenever a people turn up to ask to know my mum that, but let's make no excuses, savagering bad, let's, to be honest, yeah. But the other two games, you know, I don't know, no people see on Twitter or X or whatever it's called these days, but against Punjab, we had a perfectly good goal. The person never catch up with playing. It's over the line by about two-four. And he never give it. Punjab went down the other end of school. Nick's a one-nil and I think, you know, first Punjab dealt right, I think, I'd be honest, they got away with it at night. And same the other day, Unsdale, you know, one new upper Unsdale, hit the bar just for a half time. Unsdale come out, second half played well, don't give me wrong, but we lost to Unsdale and we lost to Punjab and we're really disappointed with end games, but, you know, a lot of, say, fabish them, you have your hands up. They were so good for us. And, you know, we've had a few tours where, you know, we've done well against Fisher, down at 10 men, lived the other day, down at 10 men. They scored a debatable penalty. So, you know, things have gone just on the other way, just tilt with the other way a little bit. We could be sitting in there, like, with a lot more poison, we got back. Listen, it's a long season. And, you know, we'll be all right. We're in a good place at a minute. The change really is really good. So, we've added well over the last couple of weeks. Obviously, Tunday's come in and got a lot of goals. Diego, we've got from BCD, he's come in as a great goal yet, but he's really got him with a group and he's doing really well. And, you know, he got Laddick from here in town. He's come in and he's scored a great goal at Russell the other night. So, yeah, we're in the right direction. - You mentioned Tunday there. Great to have him back and scoring goals. - Oh, yeah, he's a top man. So, I've never reacted. Well, I've invested a lot to him. Obviously, he's flirted with him before in the past. He could never get older than he's come and play for us. But he's a really good Laddick. And the thing is, as well, he cares, you know, where he's played for the club before. He knows Jordan's chairman, you know, strikes a center off. So, he's come in and he ain't come in and just fall on. Just turn it up and play. He cares. And he's been really, really good to be here. He's been fantastic for us. - Obviously, last season, you went in mid season and weren't able to stay up. But how much did you and Jamie learn about yourselves as a management team from that experience in step four? - Oh, he just gave us really, really tough. You know, like, obviously, you know, Jordan, the chairman's a fantastic chairman. He's cracking to be. He's a great fellow. And, you know, he's not scared. He's hands dirty. And, you know, it's the right family. It's fair down there. So, you went in and you read that. You wanted to really help him out. But it was just a bit of a bridge too far. You know, they had a lot of players online. You know, they had a lot of players leave. And like you say, if you don't take anything from it, if you don't learn from it, it's no point doing it. You know, that's a tough league up there. And the gap, I don't think people appreciate the gap between the issue in the schedule. Not just as well, but financially wise. And, you know, it's Johnny, he's all missed and made these. And they've got this. They've got that. But you've come up and get some players. You know, some of the center force we come against in the issue really. I think that's the difference. The difference was in the two boxes. You know, we didn't take our chances. And they got piqued in that league who probably know where the goal is. And that's the big, big difference between the two. But that's probably the biggest thing we took from it. But, you know, it's been a complete change around this year. And we've got borrowing, probably, strikes and a few others like Dan Park. Obviously, Ross Morley's out into it. We've got a whole new team. My whole new squad, I should speak. You know, a few of our old boys come over this year. So, yeah, we learned from it. But it was tough and not safe. I don't know if it's no point doing it. And obviously, I suppose very intricately, so we're not far outside the playoff places. And I suppose that's the ultimate aim, isn't it? Because you've had a tasty step four. Do you want to get back there? Oh, yeah, I'll say you want to get back there. But again, I just said that the financial difference between the two leagues is huge. So, if you want to go back, you want to go back and say, I don't think you're ever going to try them, you know, unless you get a big influx of money, then try them. You know, a lot here in Santa Fe on there this year. And they've got to go off to a cracking start. But he's tough to travel himself. But, yeah, listen, we're not going to suddenly think, oh, you know what, let's just finish me table. No, with the group we've got, you know, and we haven't really been able to play the team that, not to say we don't want to play. I don't think that because some boys have come in and done well. But we've always seen, so we have free missing on Saturday. We've always seen to have free missing. But once everyone settles down and, you know, all of these stuff and weddings stuff and whatnot, and you get into the grind a bit, our fans used to do quite well. And I'll put this while to be really, really disappointed if we're not in them playoffs and finishing well towards the season, towards the end of the season. - Like, Corinthian, on Sunday this weekend, or was it tough place to go? - It is, yeah, it is, like, it's a lovely self down there. And I got a lovely pitch. And I had a few players down there, like good kids. And again, my crew friends, you know, they've had a bit of a turnaround this year. I haven't known, they've lost a few players and they've got some new ones in. So, yeah, it's a tough place to go. But we're looking forward to it. We're not too happy. It's 11 o'clock on a Sunday moment if I'm putting on to you, John. - I think, I know they do this grand upper weekend, but you're asking for it to be there at half nine on a Sunday morning. I think the fixtures could have been a little bit more kind. They could have moved it back an hour or two, to be honest with you. But it's only for one weekend the season. So, you've got a part of the onion. - That was exactly the reason why you're on my list to speak to this week. Because I wanted to say to you, what is the challenge of playing 11 o'clock on a Sunday? And, you know, obviously, it's amazing that there are going to be more people coming into the schedule. But, as you say, 11 o'clock on a Sunday is a bit of a ruffler, didn't it? - Well, yeah, especially, yes, trying to get them all their sober, John, isn't it? That's the challenge, you know? Let's be honest, you know? They all say to me, "No, we won't get sad, you know. "I ain't stupid. I love it. They're going to be out." But it's, again, the best time for crinkins as well. And it's, is it right? No, is it right that they do this grand upper day? Yeah, it's a cracking idea. But I think, I think us and crinkins have drawn the shocks for a little bit, if I'm perfectly honest with you. And just finally, you know, you're obviously enjoying your time here with the bell over there and hoping that it's going to be a successful season and beyond. - Oh, yeah, really enjoying it. That's so, you know, totally the terms of cracking fell off. Not afraid to get his hands dirty, you know, he's in the bar. The bar's packed, he's jumped beyond the bar. It's not about him. It's about the club. And, you know, he's been a pleasure to work for. We had our ups and downs, obviously, trying to get the squad together. And, I say, John, you know, there's a lot of money banning the bat in these leagues, and, you know, you can't always get the players you want. And then all of a sudden, kind of weeks later, they fall out of bed somewhere else and you're going to pick them up. But, you know, yeah, we're looking forward to it. We're looking forward to the season. We're growing into it and, you know, we'll be all right. I think, like, you ask the boys in the changing room there. They're all getting together. Because, obviously, you had some left from last year, and you had some of our old players come down. We got some new kids in. Tundays come in, being brilliant. Geez, I was coming, being brilliant. They're all bonding. They're all getting together. And, yeah, I can only see us getting better. I'm like, put it out, we ain't going to get any worse. Well, I put the issue of sober players to the opposing manager on Sunday morning, and he was more concerned about a Saturday night playstation being from his squad. But I thought Billy actually spoke really well on that issue, all told, but he knows he's just a one-off. Yeah, they've been dealt with a rough hand. But, as he says, it's a great thing to be a part of. Yeah, it's a major event, and at least in the money that these clubs will do, and I suppose it is frustrating to play 11 o'clock on a Saturday, but normally, into Sunday league, sort of, time kick off. But, yeah, I think they'll make the most of it. And I expect that to be a very good game between them and Karisian. Everything Bell with Deir, you know, the issues they had last year. I think he spoke very clearly of confident the club is going in the right direction. The plays he's got involved in this squad. End results have been a little bit mixed bag, but he thinks he's got enough quality in his squad to move it in there. And, as he said, disappointed not to get into the... If I don't get the playoffs by the end of the season, I think it's a very open league at the moment, looking at it. I know VCT had run in a way with it at top, but when the sides maybe catch up with some games, it could be really close. And I think maybe eight to ten sides think they can get in the playoffs, and there's no reason why everything Bell with it can't be one of them. I think last season was, you know, a real struggle for them. They're going to come back and grow again. I think they've got a new team. And let's hope that they can go on and try and achieve their aims this season. So, but again, very passionate man there who thinks they're going in the right direction. Yeah, absolutely. People have forgotten Billy and Jamie Sips, his joint manager, where at StanSfeld got them into Skiffle Premier, and then got the job at Irith and Bell with Deir after leaving StanSfeld at the back end of the season. And he's very honest there about the struggles that they face and the financial challenges and, you know, a lot of managers. You do get under the crest of a wave when you get promoted. But I think all the up people that they had with Matt Longhurst leaving Irith and Bell with Deir, they'd had the up people at the back end of the previous season before they sort of snuck over the line. And so I think it was a tough last season. It couldn't quite manage to keep them up. But they've rebuilt, you know, and I think they've got a strong side in there. And I really like Billy. There's something about them the way he talks. I think he comes across really well, very honest, doesn't shy away from anything. And I think that's, you know, it's really refreshing to hear, actually. And I enjoyed that. And, you know, it's all positive for Irith and Bell with Deir, I think, at the moment, because they've won more games than they've lost. They're sitting just outside the playoffs and I get the feeling that they've not really got their straps yet. No, from what he said as well. I think it's the stability at the club there. Sometimes, probably, since the last 18 months, John, they've been struggling, isn't it? Because, as you said, they snuck out running away with the league, nearly through it away. Last season, didn't get going, change a manager. And they've never got, you know, any routine or any stability. Clearly, he's going to bring some stability there. Again, I think he's under any pressure to get them straight back up. But, the only pressure on, he's putting on himself saying, right, let's get into those playoffs and see what we can do from that. So, 11 games, 16 points. Again, in a quite congested division at the minute, I think they're going in the right direction. And let's hope they can continue that form as well. But there's a lot of sides in this division who will think they've got a chance of getting into those plays. Yeah, we mentioned that Tundi had a room new there. He scored a lot of goals. So, he was back in them for a bit and scored a few goals. He was tough to offer with in Belvedere in that season, two years ago, when they're on their way up. He's had injury problems. But to have him fit and firing is a veteran now, definitely. But to have him fit and firing, he knows where the goal is. And he scored a few goals in the last few weeks, including both on Saturday. It's great to have him back. I think it's pointed to be made that the difference is in the box. Is it if you've got somebody who can score goals, who gets that important strike that could be a tight game, it could be absolutely crucial. So, clearly, he enjoys playing at the club. It's what the manager said that he wanted to come back and wanted to get back to the levels as they were before. So, yeah, I think it's absolutely crucial. If you've got a striker, you're going to do well at this division. And I think he's played four games and he's got five goals. So, he's going in the right direction. And clearly he loves the club, which is a good thing as well. Yeah, absolutely. Right, it's time for the exciting news. If I was sat on my desk, which I'm not, I would do a little drum roll, but I haven't got the chance. But this is a little football show. Maybe we should just rename it that, actually, that you're currently listening to, has been asked to be the match. They sponsor at the Ground Top Open on Friday night. So, if you're snuggling against Russell, I will be there. Our logo is in the program. And hilariously, although I will be getting help with this, we'll be choosing the man of the match. It's the same, you can't make it, Matt. I only said, well, last month, how lovely it was at snuggland. And I'll get to go back. Absolutely amazing opportunity. Really grateful to the people at Snuggland Town. And looking forward to it. Yeah, it should be great. Mate, unfortunately, I can't do it for various reasons, but you'll be there flying the flag for the non-league podcast as well. I think they're going to feed you. I'm sure it'll be interesting to see. They'll put you to see some characters there, John, who absolutely love their football one. I think it's a big weekend for a lot of people, isn't it? You'll probably get people from all over the country coming down for this. Yeah, you do. Yeah, so it's an event, very well organised. Plenty of games for you to watch. As you said, Snuggland looked after you before, and I'm sure they look after you again. And I look forward to seeing here in all about it next week's show. Absolutely, yeah, away from the ground. It was lots of other games to wait a whistle on Saturday. That's why, in fact, you could probably swap in. Another one of these three PMs are still good to be. He's either seven o'clock, but Bist had host Holland and Holland and Blair. Leave take on Lordswood. It's homestale against Kennington. Lead against Stanstfeld and Whitsterwood host Punjab United. Snuggland then in action again on Tuesday night when they play Fadisham. Last weekend BC did extended their lead at the top as they were on two-note Lordswood, while Fadisham were held to a two-two draw by Corinthian and Holmesdale also drew three-three homes of Snuggland. Punjabi came to one, Neil. Well, it was Gleed three Bistid, Neil. Holland's a Blair bit rustle, two-nil Lottfield, a new high then Fisher drew two apiece. Stanstfeld beat Whitsterwood one, Neil, and it was one all between Tambridge Wells and Lidtown. Then on Tuesday night, Corinthian beat Stanstfeld two-one. And Punjabi continued down on beating starts the season with a 3-1 win at Holmesdale. One thing very quickly in there, Jamie Philpott's played his 200th game for Gleed at the weekend, 141 goals he scored. Pretty good return. And he's been incredibly loyal there because I'm pretty sure Jamie Philpott could be playing a couple of steps higher than where he currently is, don't he? Yeah, he's a name in this division of goals, goals, goals. Yeah, I think he's starting at Neilwell, I think he did, didn't he? So there was a Welling, wasn't it? Yeah, so I think I want to see him play. He had something about him, but yeah, he's been loyal, enjoyed playing at that level of football, and get to do the score goals. Look at the top of the table, I mentioned about being quite tight there. Do you think certain stuff may be fabulous or will be a bit concerned that VCD, and I got two games in hand, of eight points clear than this early doors? I didn't imagine so. I think VCD have shown as I saw a couple of weeks ago, they're a real threat. You know, they're hard to beat. Don't concede a lot of goals, keep a lot of clean sheets. And I think there's, you know, that was a good result for them at the weekend, but in Lordswood as well, were tough place to go. And yeah, I think I know I'm pretty sure Tommy Waller would not have taken anything to glide this season, but he knows now that VCD are a real threat. And all the time they can keep going, they've got some good experience, they'll play some good football. This is going to be a title race again, man. And that's all we want from this league. Well, and again, we've got to play to Punjab. We've slowly grown every year from that point of view, and we spoke to Chippie before the start of the season. They seem pretty confident. Ten games in, I'm beaten. Maybe we're going to have maybe a three horse, maybe even a four horse race as well, but Punjab doing very, very well, not surprising. I thought they'd have a good season, but even better than I thought they would do, to be honest. So Chippie must be very excited at the moment, I would have thought, because they've got a chance this season. Yeah, they really have. In the first position, there were no goals between caps and community in Canterbury City. Our Fabution Strike Force ended a two-day win at FC on said. Lewis & Barra, two women at Hall's Athletic. Rochester and Croydon, two-one-all. It was three-three between Sheppie Sports and S.C. Thames, me. Stapers when I saw Stout, two-one-at-home was a sold-hour hamlet, and then two-two- get-three greenways. One before on Tuesday, Canterbury beat Sheppie Sports, three-two. It was the same school for Fabution Strike Force at Greenways, and that has put Fabution Strike Force at the top of the table. As Saturday sees Canterbury host, Brydon Ropes is Croydon against Sheppie Sports. Fabution Strike Force, me, Rochester. Greenways, host, Stapers, Monups, Hall's Athletic host, Welling Town. As well as said, Meridian BP take-on, two-ting Beckett, 11 o'clock, and then two games on Wednesday night for us to up our home to FC Amsterdam and sold our hamlets against Welling Town. Unless we're into the East Middle East, now we're two of our sides, still have a 100% league record. Ramsgate were busy in the FA Cup action on Saturday, but a two-no-win-a-fin sportsman is six out of six for Sheppie United. All told, it's 11 straight league wins for the Iights, and I've got up with the Iights first-team coach, Jeff Reacord, to discuss their excellent start to the campaign. Yeah, it was nice to get a win up there. You know, we've been up a few times over the years, and we haven't had the best of days up there, and I think we lost quite heavily and poorly last season. So, it's one of those places you can go to and have a bit of a nightmare if you're not really sort of foreign on all cylinders. And, you know, it's a bit of a strange game. To be fair, we wasn't there good. We didn't play that well, but I think when you go there, the most important thing is you get a couple of goals and come away with a win. I suppose they're having a difficult start to the season, but, as you say, you've had bad experiences there before, so you knew you had to go there with the right attitude. Absolutely. Yeah, we've had that experience, like I said, last year. And, yeah, so we had to try and be positive and aggressive in our football. And, you know, really, we dominated the game. They played with five across the back, and they played with two central holding midfield players. So, for a good hour, we were kind of faced with a wall of defensive opposition. And all we could do is try and play a football and wait till all the opportunities come along and make sure that we took them. But once we started getting in around the back, so their defence was kind of facing their own goalkeeper, we got our chances, really. We're talking very early in October, and you've still got 100% league records, you must be thrilled with that. Oh, yeah, absolutely. I mean, you know, to think at the start of the season, sorry, to think at the end of last season, and the start of this season, when we had to, you know, go through a rebuilding process, really, you know, we had a lot of players turn up and we had to pick the bones out of it, and it's all turned out pretty well, really, for the time being. But in terms of the run, I was thinking the other day, and I mean, I was fortunate many years ago, probably in the mid-80s, when Shepard were in the southern league, we had a run of nine, I think it was nine straight wins, which brought up the table at the time. And I can't remember a start like it, really, at this level. So, yeah, it's another part of Shepard, you know, as history. We're all told, including, if you do the back and losses, I believe it's 11 straight league wins for you as well. So that's just phenomenal, isn't it? Yeah, yeah, we just got to do our best to keep it going. I mean, this is a tough, uncompromising league that we're playing. So all we can do is take each game as it comes, and try and get something out of each game that we're playing, really. When we talk to other managers, we talk about, you know, the stop-start nature of the early stage of the season, if you don't have good cut runs. And I guess with the Hunter League record, the last thing you want now was a weekend off this weekend. Yeah, myself already, we're talking about that coming home on Saturday. I mean, I've never known anything like it at this stage of the season. I mean, there's plenty of other sides that are at the FA trophy and at the FA Cup. But to go a couple of weeks, which effectively what we're going to have to go through, before we play our next game, I've never experienced anything like that. So, yeah, our next game is in a couple of weeks down at Ramsgate. And what's the first one that will be as well? Oh, yeah, they have a good side, Ramsgate. No, a really good side. And they've got such, you know, a strong squad that they could rotate their side quite easily. It'll have very little effect on their performances and that. So, no, we'll have to play very well to get anything out of that game down there. What have you made of the standard of the league so far this season? Well, personally, I thought it was strong last season. I think it's even stronger this year. You know, we played by in the Cup a couple of weeks ago. And I thought they were very, very good. Of course, you've got Cymbaln, you've got Ramsgate, you've got Margate, yeah. So, the like I just said, this is a tough uncompromising league. And if you have a kind of a bit of a die-off, then expect a defeat. Do you know anyone, really? Yeah, I understand the recruitment. As you mentioned earlier on about how you had to pick the bones out of some players. Some of the recruitment has been pretty strong. And the points and players that aren't necessarily well-known names in the Kent scene, but they all seem to do well so far. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, we have a lot of players pre-season. Some of which we knew and kind of had a little bit of a reputation and others that we didn't. And as that season, sorry, as that pre-season unfolded. You know, learning myself, just kind of picked the bones out of it. And we've ended up with the sixth thing that we've got. And at the moment, you know, they've been getting results. And we've had some good individual performances as well. We've mentioned on our show how Herm Bay haven't played a home league game yet. Exactly, obviously, for you, you've had a massive run of home games. I think it was five in a row at home until Saturday just gone. So, I guess it's important for you that you continue to build a home park and get results there. Yeah, of course, yeah. You know, it's a lovely service to play football. And when we get our own games, we try to win. The tone of support was really by playing good football and trying to quite a few chances. And, yeah, we'll continue with that method, really. That's what I was generally speaking with the club. You know, the club's had a really big rise in the last few years. And I guess when you sort of stabilize the whole bit, I suppose there is a challenge of keeping people interested and keeping people involved. But winning games with football like you have done this season, is the perfect way to keep the sports coming back. Yes, that's right. And as I've just said, we try to do it. You know, each team's got a method and a style of play. Our ours used to try and get the football down. And, you know, I've plenty of passes moving it around on our big pitch. And, yeah, we go out there when we're at home to make sure that our supporters go away. We have an enjoy to go in. And just finding what's the aim for the season? Obviously, last year, the amazing FA Cup run. You've not had that this year. But do you fancy a push of the playoffs? Yeah, I think, generally, the thing around the club is the kind of aim for those playoffs. If we can and get ourselves into a position where, as the season unfolds, to make sure that we're challenging for one of the employees. But, as I've just said, you know, there's some good sides in there. And the four teams that I mentioned earlier, you know, I mean, I'll be quite shocked if those four aren't in the playoffs. So, you know, it's up to us just to keep the pressure on. And Sean, staying around that chase for a spot in the playoffs, yeah. If you want to know the secrets, how well they're doing, Matt. They've only left three goals in so far this season in the league. So they're very well set up, very hard to beat. I think they've gone under the radar and they've had an excellent start for the season. Yeah, interesting. You've probably said 11 game, 11 consecutive league games. Of course, last season was all about the FA Cup run on it. And it kept something being too kind for them this season. But, clearly, they got some, you know, solid players. When they lost Hamill, I was quite surprised. And I thought he was a good player for them last year. But working through Danny Leonard, we know Charles, agent, Charles, a good goalkeeper. Really friendly club when I went there. And I have gone under the radar a little bit, but six wins out of six. Only three goals conceded. As he said in there, we're expecting a lot of our sides here to be really, I can't dominate it. I cannot believe there's going to be any other sides that are going to stop the Kent side, Kent side and age getting the playoffs. There's a numerous sides could do it. And Sheppy have started well. You cannot 100% record very, very good start to the season for them. And it will be interesting to see if they can keep it up. Again, as I've seen, as you mentioned, I've seen from Dover, they've read a bit of a good run. Then they stopped for a couple of weeks and you lose that momentum. So it will be interesting to see if this is going to affect them because that will be a concern from my point of view. You want to keep playing winning matches. But they've had an absolutely great start to the season. The next game they play is against Ramsgate. And so 200% records left for Ramsgate playing the week could be up for grabs. So it makes it a very exciting division this one. I have to say, but fair play to Sheppy. Clearly, Ernie, the manager, knows what he thinks that they can do to get out of these. He knows his division. And he knows Sheppy. People will come out if they're doing well. So I'm pleased for them as well. I think they lost to Ramsgate in the cup, didn't they? So it'll be a bit of a grudge match as well coming up from them. But yeah, a really good start to the season. I really enjoyed it when I went there last year. Really friendly people. And I think they get the club going in the right direction. And there's no reason why they can't be, again, the start you've had. You'd expect them to be in and around. The top reason for the playoffs. So I'm sure they'll be looking into that. Yeah, I would do more than 300 sports to the guys every week. And that might lead through if they keep this form up. I mean, one thing I will say, and I think people inside the club are fully aware of this. They probably had a kind of on a fixtures from some others. They've had a lot of the Sussex teams. They've had teams near the foot of the table. But you can only be what's in front of you. And even though, as he said, they think sports have been a difficult start to the season. But last year, they got turned over there. And they went there with the right attitude, the right mentality, and came away with the result. And as Billy Hamilton earlier on, no easy gains in set forward. So any, no matter which six teams you play, so if one of the first six games of season, is that a mightily impressive achievement? Massively, massively. Do we ever games on a spin from that point of view? Just how it's not going to be a stop start now. And then we're back playing and you lose up momentum. But interesting to see how they get on the next few weeks. But some tough games. But you say, I don't think there's any, is these games in this level? There's a lot of sides who expected to do well. I think it's a very competitive league this year. So on Saturday, high is head to ASE Croydon, back in and go to Burgers Hill. Here at the town, head to Eastbourne, sick run after that one. That's because it's pond fire night on Saturday in Eastbourne. Margaret head to Lansing and seven out of six, three bridges. For on Tuesday, steel town against Sittingborne. Herman Bay finally play a home game when Staining Town can really visit. Margaret take on three bridges and hear it sound. Head to Merston. It's the F.O. people, some of the rest on Saturday, as well as our six Ismian Premier sides. We've brushed over the draw last week, but tired of the round for us, it's surely Ramsgate taking on Croy Valley. PM again that Matt is heading to. Elsewhere, it's astrogenite against Lawton Horsham. Brentwood is a destination for Croy Wanderers. It's chatting against Wingo and Finchley. Chitistah City against Herman Bay. Dartford at home to Dalley Chamlin. Dorethetic Prince of Chessins. Folks of it to play Margate's Conquere's Ascot United. And it's Sissonborn against Bogner E just town. I think that my views on this competition for our step four teams have been made pretty clear on this podcast, but some good ties in there. And I'm sure you're in for a thriller at Southwood on Saturday. No love lost between those two at the back end of our season. Yeah, I think that's the stand out. That tie Ramsgate will be looking their wounds a little bit of the tough tie against Brackley to go out of that. But I'm sure they'll be looking for a little bit of revenge. I know the Ben Smith will say it's not a priority for the trophy, but I think he would like to have a little bit of revenge. He gets to Croy's side. He started pretty well this season as well. So yeah, I'm not expecting the two and a half thousand that in the league game that was too old with the back end of our season. But I'm sure it'll be just as feisty on the pitch as no quarter given. And again, Steve McKib will be hoping. I'm sure that he's so I can pick up. There's lost a couple of games of late to just get back on the horse of that. But and show that they were the better side of our season, which they were and that they continue to be. Yes. Four games in the history premiere over the week, course of the week. And four defeats. Folks are lost out to one at Chichester on Saturday. They're the same squad for Dover as they went down at home, so we can go and finish the Croy Valley beat in one-wheel ending. And then on Tuesday night, Chatham travelled down to Hastings, and they lost that one three-two as well. It's still finding their way, I suppose, in that division. Now, most of the team have played roughly the same number of games, but it's pretty tight, isn't it? There's not a lot of space between the top and the bottom. No, Chatham would be disappointed with Chatham's staff in the season eight games. Eight points. I think they've had a really disappointing, take away that win against Welling in the Cup. It's been a really disappointing start to the season, but I think this division, I don't think there's an outstanding team in it, to be honest. And if you can go on a bit of a run, you can pick up points. So, yeah, Divers did a disappointing result with the weekend, but hopefully they can bounce back. I've got a game on Tuesday. I think I'm going to against they playing Tuesday. Bogno is it? We're Bogno in the league. Bogno beat us, yeah. Yep, so on Tuesday. So, yeah, I don't think, you know, crying in eighth place. So, yeah, I think this league's going to set a world and settle down. I don't think there's an outstanding team. If you can go on a bit of a run, you can move up the table. But Chatham will be disappointed with that start, I think. I hope so, I think for them at the start of the season, just doesn't really work out for them. So, just to see how they can bounce back as well. Yeah, I was I was actually in Finchley on Saturday evening as well, when that was all going down. So, you know, I was with... Are they dancing in the streets? There wasn't any dancing in the streets, actually. It's just a disappointment. Maybe the result hadn't filtered through to the good people of East Finchley at the time I was there. But, you know, it was discussed where I was, but only because I looked at the score up, I was talking about someone who lives there. But, yeah... You can't call yourself when you saw the score, I'm sure. I'd never chuckle in Dover-Lues, but I just wanted to remind you that Margate did stop Bognary just in the FA Cup. So, I'd like to think you're going to win that one, I'm choosing. Yeah, well, yeah, hopefully. Again, just get back on the horse and get a result again, Dover. So, there's a funny score, two in the last two games after scoring. Average of four in the six of the previous ones. I think they need to start getting on the court on the horse. But, yeah, we had high hopes in this division, didn't we come to our sides? But, particularly Chatham, I think, have all the sides so far this season. I think they'll be disappointed the most. Yeah, also on Tuesday night, it's a dart for heading to Billericki and Craig Vallego to Canvey Island, as well as we've already said, Dover at home to Bognary just in the National League, Southland, Saturday, Tumbra Jones, head to Sloughtown, Welling, host Western Superman, Maystone, Head to Worthing, and Welling, also Head to West Sussex on Tuesday night. It's three defeats in a row for every three nights, after two won National League defeat to Oldham on Saturday. But Divos Harry Watling has made his first four A's into the transfer market with a double signing of Todd Kane, and Anthony Stewart, so he's keen to decide if defense is where he needs to start with the improvement. Kane was on the bench on Tuesday night, as the fleet played Westboro under 21, so the competition, which I would deem even more ridiculous than a fictional sebutia tournament held in Matt's house where even the dog has a team. Fleet home to Rochdale on Saturday. That's another tough one for them, because they've had a good start at Rochdale. Yeah. Game about it defensively. Again, the managers come out and sort of said the players aren't fit, which I think new managers do find, and from that point of view, that they will use that saying they've got to get the players fit. Again, that ridiculous competition they played. I think the gate was 213, John. Probably cost more than right with the stadium up, and put the floodlights on over the floor. Do you know what? There's 213 people I'd like to have a serious sensation with about what you're doing with your life. It's a wet miserable Tuesday night. Stained, or what's a bake-off? Do anything else rather than watch that, because that is an unbelievable... I mean, I think the Johnson's paint trophy... Well, why didn't they just put in this Johnson's paint trophy? They're this competition. I've got no idea. It's just a nationally being idiots again, isn't it? The only thing I can see for free at the moment is it's giving players minutes, and it's giving them new managers a chance to suss things out. But it's an insult of a competition to anything, and I really don't see the point in it, and, you know, West Brom under 21s, travelling all the way down to Kent on a Tuesday night. What is the point? What is the point, honestly? It's absolute shambles of a competition, and hopefully this will be a one-off, because those teams just stuck their neck out, and said, "We're not playing in it." Hopefully they will write, and this will just fail, and everyone at the end of the next season, everyone will be like, "Don't know why we did that. Let's get a bad bit and move on." Yeah. I'm an abstract point of view. Then there's still a long way to go. New manager bounce hasn't worked. They've got some interesting pictures coming up as well, I think. Would you be concerned if you're an absolute fan already? I know the crowd is still there, a decent crowd at the weekends, and the fans haven't given up on them too much, have they? So it's back in the new manager, but I presume he's going to get some results from fast, doesn't he? Absolutely, I suppose what's helping them is that, no, they're not that cut-or-dressed yet, even though they have only won the ones, but yeah, they've got to turn it around. Obviously, he's had the thing of getting a win in his first game, and he needs to back that up now, and keep getting good results, because you do end up getting cut-or-dressed if you have a really bad start to the season. That's the fear for everything you're not interested in. Yeah, I suppose in the FA Cup time will be a tough one as well, I would have thought, isn't it, really gets made so much to discuss next week? But again, you win that, could kick start your season as well, isn't it? Absolutely, yeah, well, that is it for the football chat, and you know what, there's a training in about 10 minutes, Matt, so I'm aiming to be on that, so we can map this up and I can get home, can't I? We can't, so what were you doing in winning game eventually or eventually? I was visiting a listener to the show, who's called Dave and his family, and just having a catch-up with them. You get the training, you'll drive up. Got the train, got the train from the underground, up to East Finchley, pretty stress-free journey. But there was a lovely boozer, not far from the station, and that's a nice beer on tap and did nice food, and the company was very pleasant, and then we went to their local cod, and yeah, it was very pleasant. So, you know, it's nice to branch out and meet new people and go to new places, and that's exactly what we've done there. So, yeah, we see it was very nice. I would only enjoy it, would recommend it. Well, anything else planned? I know you're going to a comedian, very, going to see Russell Clayman on Wednesday night. Yep, that's why we're recording on Tuesday, because we're going to have to see... Where's he going? He's at the Tumbra dwells theatre, so it's their Wednesday and Thursday, I think what we're going tonight. And then what else we've got on this weekend? Well, his fireworks night on Saturday, and so going down to Eastbourne for that one, weather permitting, and yeah, that's it for all on Friday night, looking forward to that. Oh, another house for you, and so hopefully that one will turn out okay. On Saturday, so... Are you being bombarded by the estate agent? A little bit, but to be fair, it's done to turn today, because they've sent us one, and we published it and said, "That's lovely, can we view it?" So, we're going to see that on Saturday night. And so, yeah, hopefully the dream of living together is moving a little closer, but you never know it. What's going on in Gerard Land anyway? Not too much, to be honest, I've really been up to that much, working, the weather's been pretty ropey, so it's just been a busy week for various things going on in our lives, that we've just sort of, we've been ships in the night, my wife and I had asked a couple of days, and we'll be to the end of the week. So, but apart from that, nothing just, I'm going away in a couple of weeks on holiday, John, so again, so, I'm going to... Yes, so, which I should be able to record a pod, but... Is that half-term? Yeah, well, the kids get two weeks off. Oh, and so we're going the first week, so we're going off to the Algarve, I've never been before, so hopefully it'll be nice. But have you come into this money? Well, we just thought, because we didn't go away to court, what we thought wasn't too bad. We'd taken my mother and the mother-in-law as well, so it should be an exciting little breakaway, I feel a little bit of sun, because I hated it when I had to put my shorts away, because the weather's so bad in the last few days, it's supposed to be terribly wet as well. It's, I could do with a bit of late Sunday, not October, so that's the excitement I've got coming up from that point of view. But no, apart from that, I've never been to Algarve, I've never been to Portugal once, which was in Europe 2004, when I spent a week to support so, I watched three games of European football as very in quality, but no, I've kind of always thought, is it Algarve, say, Algarve, say, Algarve? That's where we go, that's where we go, yeah. Not so, but apparently, it's been a people who play golf, that's quite busy for golf things, and they said, this time of the year, it might get a little bit cold in the evening, but a nice, very nice warm in the start of the day, and I'm hopefully laying around the pool, jumping in the pool, so I've got a bit of an injury on my ankle, I went over my ankle, I'm holding it in August, and I'm struggling with it, I don't know what I've done. You know, you're sort of, I felt sort of down a hole, you do your ankle, you put it over, and it's just been really painful, so I'm hoping so I can get the rest out, all going this room important, do things like that, but apart from that, that's a couple of weeks away, so, and it's that time of the season now, John, which, after this weekend, you know, the cup's coming out, a lot of our sides going back to the football, it's going to be, everything's going to be a bit more easier to work out, because teams are going to start playing a lot of games, it'll be a lot of mid-week games, and probably by the middle of November, beginning of December, all nowhere a lot of our sides are going to be, so it's a bit of a bitty part of the season, isn't it? Yeah, it really is, sort of injuries quickly actually, I had a thing, and I've had it a couple of times now, I woke up in the night, and it felt like someone had dropped something on my foot, so I've been pobbling around for like the best part of two weeks, so it seems finally touchwood, and to have cured itself, so hopefully I'm over the worst of it, and I can actually move around a little bit more, and get back to some sort of normality, so apparently I need to get a tennis ball, but as I'm not a dog, I haven't got one at any moment, or a tennis player, I don't have a tennis ball. Just rolling your foot on a can of coat and things like that's supposed to do things, good for it, that's what it seems to be looking for, but I'll be watching YouTube on these bits and pieces about my ankle, so just a little bit frustrating, because I'm hobbling around, when you wake up in the middle of the night as well, it's, you know, you're hobbling, there's no being no blood in the body, you've been your bloody first, so that's part of that. First world problems, I'm getting old, that's what it is. We're middle-aged, that's the issue, we're just, frankly, we're middle-aged. If you're not watching it, the new series of Taskmaster continues to be excellent, I'm really, really enjoying that, and I'm sure I'll watch the next sort of the bake-off as well, but you know, winter's coming, the nights are drawing in, and that's surely we're going to do some stuff. On TV at the moment, Sue. Again, there's, you know, I think, because the heat has come on, so there you go.
