Okay, no flying cars, but as soon as they get invented, they'll be on AutoTrader. Just you wait, AutoTrader. I'm Smiley Coffin, and this is The Smiley Show. Well, there you have it. That was my poorly executed intro. Can you hear me, Smiley? Are we live? Is this happening? Look at us. We're doing a live show again. These are always more interesting stars to shows than our other shows, because we have to make sure all the technology is working. Sometimes that's hard, but here we are. We are live. It's a major week. This is The Smiley Show. I'm currently in my house in Durham, North Carolina, about an hour and a half away from Pinehurst, because I've made the regrettable decision to shuttle back and forth in between Durham and Pinehurst this week. Smiley is sitting in what looks like a very white kitchen somewhere in the village of Pinehurst. He's ready to rock and roll this week. Before we go anywhere else, you are fresh off the course. Pinehurst number two, you just watched a little golf involving Jordan, JT Ricky, and one Tiger Woods. How was that? And Charlie Woods. So he was out there. Wow. I was just kind of hanging out in the background. It's chilling. First impressions of Pinehurst, ouchies. This place is going to be hard. I was blown away at how I don't remember how hard the golf course is. So if I was first impressions, we got a good amount of rain last night, because I was flying into Charlotte, and the weather went right through Pinehurst, and you wouldn't even be able to tell. The golf course still looks very firm. The Bermuda Greens is a huge change in difference, and I know we're going to get into a full recap of Pinehurst this week, but instant impressions from talking to Justin, who said on the first hold today that he putted two balls off the green. He said he's never seen greens this quick on a Monday. So he probably guesstimated that maybe five balls were putted off the greens on their back nine today, just putting to the corners of the green. So the greens are really quick. And yeah, the tiger looks really good, by the way. It's like, you know, we say this every time he's still really, really good at golf. And this is kind of the place that you would think if there's anywhere, it's going to be warm, it's firm, should be easy on the joints, it's going to be hot. He's going to be sweating more than anybody. And I'm just so impressed with how good he is still, not only with his ball striking, but man, his chipping is just absurd, absurd. Yeah. And that's something you're definitely going to need this week at Pinehurst, the way some of those greens run off and you end up with some wonky lies in and around the greens. I mean, it's to me, and again, we'll get in this in the preview, but having played this course a few times being close to home, it just always strikes me to your point, always firm and fast. It's that sand base that that's Pinehurst, Sandhills, you know, where everything drains and you rarely have ever get that course, you know, wet or soft. And you can hit dry. I think it's, it's so important to not only have like a target, like a landing zone off the tee, but paying attention to what the ball is going to do on the ground. It's so easy for that ball to roll and getting some of those native areas with the grasses up. And then, you know, you have a tricky shot into some of these green complexes with the runoffs and everything around it. So having it, having a good short game as Tiger does, I, you know, I didn't think the walk was crazy bad. It's a little bit up and down at Pinehurst, but I don't think it's going to be crazy, you know, difficult maybe for Tiger this week in terms of the strain on his body. So, you know, I mean, it's hard, it's hard to not always get your hopes up when it's Tiger Woods, but it's a good early report from Finehurst. And one good story just at the end of the day, everybody's kind of gathered at the back of the green at 18. The pin was on the very front, which was right, just short of a false front. So, you're putting from the back of the green, really easy to put it off the green. I already mentioned Dia how guys were putting it off the green in the practice round. So they're all back there, they're gathered. And I see Justin talking to Charlie and Charlie has got, he's got Jordan's putter in his hand. And I, I immediately perk up and I walk over there because this is where I get in on the action, because this is where, this is where I shine. Give me the putter, give 60 footer, maybe I'll hoop it. But it wasn't my turn this time. It was Charlie Woods's turn. And JT set the parameters of the bet as if I recall. I didn't hear the numbers involved. But something like you owe me money if you put it off the green and that was like the first thing I heard. Three putt you owe me money or something like that. Two putt, I'll give you 100 bucks or something. If you make it, we'll all throw in, you know, whatever. It probably would have made a ton of money. And he actually hit a great pot, misread it, hit it to like eight, 10 feet, and then like whipped out the next one. So three putt it. So you probably owe his JT some money, but still, he used Jordan's putter too. And I will say that putter is a bit cold. So you can't blame the guy. Well, you know, and that's something we need to dig into because, you know, we are here primarily to recap the memorial tournament that was just played. And we led into that week with Smiley Kaufman, the newsmaker, breaking some news on the putter front for Justin Thomas and saying maybe Jordan was considering something, you know, that's not might he's to share. I'll ask you this. Was he using his current gamer as he stuck with that putter for the US Open? He still has his gamer. I was a little surprised. I kind of thought we might see one of the mallets that he has cooking up. And I've got my hands on one of it. It sits pretty. We'll see if he starts using that down the road. I know from talking to he he finds that the mallets are way easier to line up, which I think that's fair for most guys that they get a mallet. And they see that, Oh, wow, this is pretty easy to line up. But I think he's still, especially on really quick greens, I don't blame him sticking with the gamer because, you know, he's so he's got such a great feel with that putter. I don't I think it'd be really weird first week with the new putter to go to really, really fast greens. So that's probably smart. JT. Yeah. Yeah, he still had his blade. Didn't actually I should have asked him how first week was with it, but I didn't. But he still has it. And I think he was okay with how he put it last week. Yeah, I mean, I'm looking at it right now. I think let's see here. I need to go to event average here is to see where he shook out in terms of strokes gain. He was he lost just less than a shot on the greens. But I think relative to what he'd been the way he'd been putting for the year as a whole. I think that's an upgrade. If I'm not mistaken, I can double check that as well. I think the I think the strokes gain numbers were a little worse on the weekend, maybe. But you know, it's it feel it felt like also I test to just watching him like it felt like he was, you know, making a lot more runs of the whole than he would, you know, maybe with that with that that mal before. So it was kind of kind of I see and it pains me so greatly being the putter taker or sicko that I am to not be able to get into the details of this this putter of George. But I've I've already like, I said, look, if he's trying to get rid of it, you know, there's a guy who's happy to get his hands on that and roll a few roll a few putts with it. So it's good. And the last thing I'll say about the U.S. Open in Pinehurst this morning as we're going to get into this memorial breakdown. So I'm like looking for the group. I know they're on the back nine. I'm kind of getting my wits about me on the golf course. And I text the boys like, Hey, where are you guys? And like, I routed a corner and I see thousands of people. I said, nevermind, found you. Oh, good. So at that time, Ricky's always got his phone out. He had already texted me. But he, I show, I mean, it's just you wouldn't believe how many people were following this group this morning. Because I, I look at the crowd, and especially on 18, you have kind of a, you know, there's more grandstands, more options for people to sit. All the grandstands were filled up. It felt like a Saturday afternoon on a Monday morning at 9 30. It was everybody's like, what in the world's going on? 7 29 a.m. Practice round, have those crowds on a Monday. That's amazing. There was no other fan on the rest of the golf course, singular, singular, fan, no fan on the rest of the course. They were all following in the group. So I was happy I got out there this morning. I definitely was exhausted just from, yeah, we were circled Charlotte and took the drive took forever. And I tell you what, I talked about last night now, didn't, didn't exactly. Did you really, there was nothing on the way, and it was either Mc, I was either McDonald's, Taco Bell or Arby's. And I just, I don't know. Is there a right answer there? I'm sure there is. I'm sure that's like a debate within itself, is what's the best fast food options? And what's the move? But I tell you what, I, I could have something better. What was it? What was the order? So this is, I mean, I would love to have a Baja blast or something with what I ordered, but I ordered, it's a cheesy wordy to crunch. I got two of those and then I got a chicken case to D and just in case I was like starving. And so I had like a little bit of that. But I got it in my car after being in Piner's this morning. I was like, man, my car just like smells weird. So come on a hot car. Hard to get out. Hard to get rid of just smell like just ground beef. Just so bad. I love this. This is why I love this is that this is how I know it's a major week as we are back synced up on the fast food choices because if you remember the masters, we both hit the same windies drive through. We didn't even say didn't even know it. And here we are again. I was on the way to game two of the super regional in Chapel Hill, which by the way, we need to get into this. I think I'm a full on college baseball guy now. We got a diet deep dive on the diamond heels, but I was on the way to that game. And I was like craving. I was like, I'm just going to pick up a quick meal. I don't want to eat the ballpark, want to be locked in, sitting in the stands, taking it in. Where can I go? And I hit up Taco Bell. I did the little, uh, Crunchwrap Supreme meal with a little, a little, you know, a little cinnamon Swiss for dessert. And they actually gave you another like talk about this. I see Garrett Clemens in the comment just finished the Baja blast. Gary, I hit a Baja blast as well that night. It's nothing better. It was, it actually, I was, I thought it was going to be worse than it was. And it turned out to be a pretty solid as far as Taco Bell runs go was a pretty solid meal. So look at us. I remember being on the phone with Fran at that Wendy's because I've been Wendy's in however many years. And I'm like, trying to ask is like, what should I give Wendy's? And I say, Oh, I see this chicken snap rat thing. It's like real chicken looks to be the healthier option. And as I was about to hang out, I was like, hold on Fran, I gotta order real quick. And I said, can I get the double baconator? She was like, okay, that's quite the thing. Yeah, I, uh, I kind of blacked out there. I don't know what happened. It's a tough scene. I, the place I do this most often is Chick-fil-A. I'll do like the chicken wrap there when I really want the fried chicken sandwich. But it's hard to go to a fast food restaurant and do the healthy option. Just feel like you're missing out. You know, if I'm going to Wendy's, give me the double baconator. Like that's what we're doing. We're just going to live with the results. That's how that works. Yeah, that was a, that's the old gut bomb. But as we talked about college baseball, the only first off congrats to Harrison Andy Cott and Carolina tar heels. If you have, if you don't star center fielder, if you don't understand the joke, this was last week or so and North Carolina beat LSU to go to Super Regals and now they're heading to Omaha. And the center fielder, I thought his name and I knew it was Vance Honey Cott, but it reminded me so much of Harrison Endicott that I asked of, Hey, do you know who your center fielder is? And of course he's like, wait, Harrison Endicott, I feel like I know that he almost caught me to her. You caught me there for a second. Cause you're like, you know who he is, right? And I was like, shoot, I don't know anybody in this lineup outside of Vance Honey Cott. Now I don't know if I know his name or not. Like, I think I got to do it. What am I doing? It's going to be in the final group with Harrison Endicott. I'm just gonna be like, Hey, it's Honey Cott. Vance Honey Cott, by the way, very good at baseball. Done. All five tools. I mean, I watched the man hit a first pitch home run and then first pitch of the game for home run, double a guy off first on a fly out, run down a ball. He's got all a bump for a base hit that turned into a, a, they got a run out of it that ending. It was two outs. He buns a couple guys get on. He scores guys crazy fast. Thank you. Just go over there. I'm just, I'm so in here. Let me just, and I won't spend too much time on college baseball. This is, of course, a golf podcast, theoretically. This is the, this is the levels I went to as I'm sitting in the stands on Saturday, I go on Amazon and order my one and a half year old son of baseball glove. So we're doing this thing. We're all the way in, we're all the way in on the college baseball life. And this is, I have you to thank for this really because you, you kind of lit the buyer. Yeah. The LSU and C series got me going. But shout out to Vance Honey Cott and the boys going to Omaha. Shout out to, to, is it, is it, I'm going to get the name wrong here. I always get the name right. DiCaro. It's Jason DiCaro, I think. And he threw, he had a, had a really good game. I was sad to see him get pulled after six and a third, but I guess that's the way it goes these days. But, uh, what was fun watching that guy work? So anyways, are you familiar with a Rocco's in Omaha? No. Oh, that's the bar where they tally up how many drinks every friend every team gets, right? No, it's every Jello shot ordered. Oh, and LSU last year had 21,000 Jello shots. I'm looking up, trying to find the final tally. It looks like 21,435 is the last number I've seen. Nope. No more than that. 23,000. And like, the next closest is, uh, 6,000. So. Rocco's is really upset that LSU's not coming to Omaha. Yeah. Not only do they go, they, they take over, um, but there's, it's, it's a LSU, excuse me, it's an SEC, ACC, uh, Omaha, which is, I think, pretty cool. Yeah. We got four to, if you didn't see the four to Clemson highlights, you need to go watch them because that series was insane. Yeah, I, you have, I'm not, I'm not, I'm in my lane. I'm in my North Carolina baseball lane, you know, we'll get to those highlights when we get there. I'm such a big college baseball guy. But you haven't seen the best game of the entire season. I mean, the guy got thrown out, the coach got thrown out in the top there, the top of the 10th. And then they, maybe it's the 12th. And the, uh, Ford ended up winning in the, to go to Omaha and this dude made this incredible catch in the outfit. You go check it out. Anyways, that's, that's talking baseball, whatever. That this has been, this has been talking baseball. We, we, we might bring this back from time to time. Uh, we're, we're, we're, we'll workshop that one, but where we should turn eventually now is, is let's do a little memorial tournament recap. And we got some comments here that we can show using our little, uh, our little streaming service, restream here. And so we'll start with Gary on YouTube. Happy Mondays. Scottie, the dad on 18 green was the highlight of the week for me. Uh, we, we've noted this on, on numerous occasions, love dad related content, love golf content, dad golf content on the show. I was actually picking up my dad, my mom from the airport. As this was, I was watching this on my phone, uh, driving safely just to be noted, but was watching the end of that tournament, watching Scottie, uh, Meredith, hand Scottie Bennett after, you know, shaking Jack Nicholas's hand and celebrating yet another win. Um, it's Father's Day week. Like, it just, it just was, you know, before we even get to the tournament, I think you have a good Scotty dad back story as well to tell. Like I just, it's just so fun watching Scottie when he's such an easy guy to root for. And the fact that he is, is doing it the way he's doing it and being a dad and all these sorts of things, I just, I couldn't love it anymore. Oh yeah. I mean, Scotty's Scotty's like our dad hero, right? Like, yes, he's carrying the torch for all dads. And Scotty, I was talking to him on the third fairway. I had, I was working with the golf channel and following his group the entire day on Friday and we're walking up to the green and I'm just asking him how, you know, how's Meredith doing? How's Bennett doing? He's like, all good, all good. And, uh, it's like, so how is, uh, you know, how's, how's Rock and Rock and the old guy to sleep? He's like, you know, it's really great, but, you know, just when you think you get the guy down and I put him down. And the next thing you know, he just does one of these. And I was like, I was like those eyeballs just right when you think you got to figure it out and you, and you got the rhythm and you, and you've rocked the baby to sleep. When those eyes wake back up, you're just like, Oh, there goes another 30 minutes to ticking clock. And we were, we were laughing a little bit about it. Cause I, I remember when I used to rock in a carter that I would, I would like practice my golf swing. Like I would, I would go like, rock to the right rock to the left. Like it was, I was like focusing on my pivot. And I know I cannot be the only one that's ever done because I'm like, swing it to the right swing it to the left. I've definitely held Walker, you know, you know, the drill like I'm kind of sees. Yeah, like, I've definitely tried to hold him and like kind of brace him here and do a little bit of this action from time to time. Uh, it's just so funny. The flashbacks there, especially with the girl in the way in October, where all the work that I've done to get to a better place with Walker, walker sleep schedule is going to be right out the window back to square one. Just with, with Honeycat home, with Honeycat, with AKA, Huckabee, Honeycat, we're going to figure that one out. Uh, but that, that's hilarious from Scott. Yeah. I love that. It's, it's a relatable moment. If you're a dad, it's a sweet moment. I loved that that was where he wanted to go right after the win is like, let me hold my son. So good. It's just really, really cool stuff. And then to the golf, I mean, I have another good Scotty story. Okay. Get into it. Please go off to tell to tell. So I'm, you know, anytime you get to a new tournament and you just don't know where the compound is, you have a parking pass and the dress that I have wouldn't write. And so I, I pull up to the front gate and immediately know this isn't right. I know my compound is around here somewhere, but it didn't, ain't through the front door. So I'm kind of pulled over to the side as I was either on the phone with you or somebody else. And I realized, like, I need to hang up to try to figure out where the hack this compound is. And in polls, a couple of cars, I gave enough room for the cars that are coming in to be able to get through the gate, to be able to drive to the clubhouse. And I look over to the left and it's like this Nissan Rogue. It's not even like a Lexus stamped car. And I thought it was a Nike hat. And I was like, was that Scotty? And, and then I see it. I was like, just diagonal up to my left. And I see the window rolled down. And Scotty does one of these he sticks his head out the window. He said, Hey, bro, you need any help getting through the gate? I was like, you know, like, Scotty, I'll take it from here. He said, all right, watch out. They're a little tight around here. And so I just, I was just laughing my butt off just the fact that, you know what? I don't think anybody should be taking any advice from Scotty on how to get through security or through a gate of any kind as we stand. And, you know, not first off not driving in a, in a, in a stamped, like, was a Lexus car last week with the decal. So I'm already like, all right, you're already, I mean, you're, you're kind of pushing the buttons here a little bit Scotty. I would have probably came in, you know, a car that was detailed. Like you were a, a tour player, but once again, not, not listening to what you got to do. But I just thought it was so funny, right? Like, I mean, how were the odds of that that I'm just sitting there, like, you're out, like where we're up going. And then Scotty's trying to give me advice on how to get through, through security. Well, what I love, what I love about it is that he's willing to make a lot of something that was, you know, pretty traumatic at the time. And, you know, probably could be really upset about the fact that, I mean, look, we just watched him once again, I mean, win another signature event. And like there are just some, some stats on these things that are just, I mean, the, the runny's had this year, I think it was Friday golf that pointed us out to start is like the runny's had this year, it would be a great career, but he's done it, you know, halfway through the year, it's unbelievable. And so the fact that he could have had another major in that span, you know, theoretically, you know, if he didn't have that one off day on Saturday in the wake of everything that happened, a lot of guys would be pretty bitter about that, but he's just, you know, rolled out his window, cracking jokes, being good, good natured about it. Just, I mean, it's, we go on and on about the human being that Scotty is and why it's so easy to root for, but it's just, it, you know, there continue to be things like that where you're like, godly, like, how can I not love you? You know, he's so easy to cheer for it. And I will say that, that I need to watch my mouth a little bit on the air now, because on the 10th hole, on Friday, I'm walking with him and he hits it way left of the green worst shot. I've seen him hitting a while. And it's actually, I would hit him much worse shot. That's how not bad his shot was that he hit into the green. And he's left and he's absolutely screwed. And I didn't think he had any chance of getting up and down. And they come down to me and they ask me, how's the lie? What's the shot like? Well, I mean, Scotty's in, like, I was in the process of saying he's in the gym. And I was halfway, I had to pivot halfway through because I was like, I mean, this is jail over here. And then I started to think over here and I was like, man, you got to throw away the throw away the keys got no chance of ever getting out for me. I mean, can you, can you imagine I've just gone down that hole with that one? It would have been a viral moment. It is hilarious that these are things we have to think about now with him, like, never in a million years. And I mean, feel the pulse of the city, feel the beat of the drum, feel the bass, blow your hair. In Las Vegas, live music delivers much more than sound. I'm sure you saw the additional footage they got released this week. And every single thing that comes out makes him look better and better. And the people around that situation look worse and worse. But, you know, it's, it's in the past. Now he seems to have put it behind him here. Let me, let me read you some stats here from this Kyle Porter CBS put out a couple of amazing ones. So the first one is if a PGA tour call for played the last eight events Kepler's played API players, Houston Masters, RBC heritage, PJ Memorial, and he didn't know he also played colonial in here, but the stat was factored in and made the cut it all eight and played them all to field average. He'd be about five over at the end of those 32 rounds. And that same time, Scottie Scheffler is 106 under. Here's a Justin race that five players have won the Masters, the players in the Memorial in their career, Scottie, Tiger, Freddy couples, Raymond Floyd, Jack Nicholas, Scheffler and Woods are the only two only players to win all three in the same year. And then one last one from Kyle Porter, the gap in total OWR points between Scottie Scheffler and world number three, Rory McElroy is the same in the gap in total OWR points between Rory and world number 613 Anthony Quail. I just, you know, and I know, and Kyle put another tweet out that was just looking at some, you know, some peak numbers. And I know we do the hyperbole thing every time with Scottie and it gets tired of some of, you know, for every stat there is like this, there's another one that illustrates how far away, not only he is, but everyone who's peaked was from Tiger Woods at his peak. But I mean, it's just, he just keeps getting closer and closer to that level of dominance. And you know, you have to then match that with consistency year over year. But it's just truly unbelievable. And this was a week where you go look at his strokes gained and you know, he's, he's a little bit just slightly positive there on putting. He lost some strokes on the green on Sunday putting, you know, but can just find a way to get it done putting just about field average. Because he's just by far the best ball striker on the planet. Well, he was, he was top 10 and putting the first couple days and maybe into most of his round on Saturday. And he was the, he was in top three iron play on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. And this golf course was a US Open test, really small greens, rough was so thick, greens got insanely firm on the weekend, as I was out there watching. And you know, that this golf, that golf course is really designed and made for someone like Scottie Sheffler. It really was his tournament to lose, I felt like, where when you talked about earlier about Scottie Sheffler and Louisville and Baha'u'llah, I thought it was really a fantastic interview that I listened to with Sally from No Lang Up and Brando Shambli. And they, they talked a little bit about that tested at a Valhalla. And they kind of, they, they referred to the PGA at the I believe it was Brando as an execution test. And I thought that was a really good way of putting it, because it didn't necessarily test the best players in the world. It was more about who can execute the best. And I felt like this past week of Memorial, like you had to answer every single test that it was given it to you was 20, 30 mile an hour gust of times, firm, small greens. They're the third smallest greens on the PGA Tour. And much firmer, more rough and a top five longest golf course on the tour. So we're just talking about a ridiculous track that Scottie Sheffler's totally built to win. And I will say it was a, if anybody's from up in that area, the cottonwood. Oh goodness, I guarantee there's gonna be some guys that show up with some type of allergies from that from last week, just stuffiness and just how difficult the golf course was. So I'll be interested to see how light common workout Scottie Sheffler take the early part of this week, because the US Open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, it is practice rounds that are so, so long. It feels like it's just, you can't get around the golf course. There's so many people, you got to get tee times. It's not like last week in which there's only 70 players in that you can kind of zip around the golf course. And there's, there is a problem, but it's a fun problem. And you only play nine holes. So that's the only thing I think slowing down Scottie Sheff right now. Because from what I saw out here at Pinehurst this week, this guy's the odds I think reflect exactly where, where he should be staying this week, which is probably going to be the top of the leaderboard. Yeah. And I mean, you had some notes on 16 in particular. And I think even when you're looking at the putty and what the stats tell you, the eye test, you have to factor in because on 16, where both those guys hit it off the tee on that part three, it was, and then especially where Scottie hits his chip, you're thinking, Oh, okay, we might have ourselves a golf tournament here. And then Colin proceeds to leave it even shorter than Scottie's chip, misses a long put. And Scottie jars one. And I know he goes, he subsequently makes bogey on 17. It's back to a one shot margin. But to me, I was like, man, you know, he is making the ones he needs. There was a really good line in there too about, and I forget which round it was from where just his relationship with Ted Scott, where there was a situation where he needed to hit a flop shot and Ted's advice to him was, let's make the next shot, you know, the highlight real shot. This shot just needs to be good enough to get it on the green, give yourself an opportunity. So that and that's how that relationship and just, you know, the where he's making putts where he needs to make putts. And don't get me wrong, the putting's got a much, much better going to that mouth. It's been incredible. It looks really good. It looks good. But it's, I mean, it's, it's just amazing. I mean, it's like, and I think Trevor maybe said it on the broadcast where it's like, if he puts good, nobody has a chance. If he puts above average, he wins by a few shots. If he puts average, it's close, you know, and if he puts poorly, he loses by a shot or two. I mean, that's where it's just, it's just it's wild these days. Yeah. But so 16, you had some notes on 16 in particular. Not good. Still not good. Still not good. The 16th hole. It always has been probably one of the worst holes on tour, because it just doesn't make sense. You got a pond short left, the wind is how we got off the left. And they've made it to where you have a bail out now. It used to be a bunker short right to where it was pitched off that bunker to where if you were in there, it was hard to even keep that bunker shot on the green to a front pin. You basically had to leave it short of the green chip up. And I'm all for testing the players. And I just don't think there's any drama to a shot to where the closest shot all day was in the morning. And it was 16 feet away. And there was no birdies on the hole. I just think that I liked if we're going to compare and contrast, just drama down the stretch. I like guys having to step up to the plate and have an opportunity to pull off a shot. And I don't think it's I think the 16th hole doesn't give you enough. The only thing it gives you is aiming at the right side of the green and just go chip it and give yourself maybe it's something that's 10 feet for par. Now, some people may be okay with like that's what I like to watch. That's my viewing pleasure. Well, I like watching and the anticipation of Scottie Sheffler hitting a shot from 190 yards and the ball being in the air and hearing that it's on line and seeing where it lands like that to me is excitement. I think the 16th hole lacks excitement. I think it lacks the besides maybe one pin or two pins maybe on the green, an opportunity to pull off a shot. But that back left pin, you can't you can't do anything. I just think the hole should continue to move further and further to the right. I think the pond isn't necessary. It's not necessary where the teas are now. Not it's not my favorite hole, but 15th way better from any spec. Any similarities to the fourth at Riviera in that respect of sort of just an impossible puzzle to solve in a way, especially with that back left pin placement, you know, I think for at Riviera is perfect the way it is now if you just get their correct grass short of the green, if you had Bermuda grass short of the green instead of something that it just lands so soft short of the green, I'm not sure exactly what grass is. I haven't been back since I've played and it just it just doesn't play like a true redanched play and how it originally was designed. This hole just it needs rethought. You know, I think even Jackson on the coverage, it needs more of a slope that banks it off the right side to help you work it towards the back left side of the green. If because right now the only way to try to do is to hook something in there, well, guess what? You're not trying to hook anything over there near that hole location in the back left because it's a yellow penalty area. It's like, why am I going to hit it out of bounds left, you know, like that? Because that's basically what the pond serves as it's out of bounds because now you get a good drop back to 130 yards or something like that. Just give me a right side of the green or a chip and go try to get up and down. Yeah. Yeah. Well, you know, that was sort of interesting, like semi turning point there. I mean, especially, you know, if they both make par there and then 17 plays out the way it is, it's kind of tied coming down the stretch. But instead both come down to it, both go long at 18, you know, both get up and down and Scottie wants a golf tournament. Should we turn now to talk about the runner up and the the one and done controversy surrounding the runner up? Should I play a clip for you now? Would you like to dig into that or do you want to wait on that? One just last thought about just the round and just and watching it live. I think a lot of people, especially I think the highlight of the day for me when it got the juiciest was the 12 pole. When Mora Calla, I thought hit such an incredible shot. I mean, just this perfect little squeezy floaty seven iron to 25 feet. And then Scottie gets up there after watching that and hits the most psychotic shot I've ever seen. This is a psycho shot. He hit the same shot except he aimed at the pin and no problems hit exactly the number, hit it to eight feet. Of course, Colin makes the putt and Scottie misses, which turned out to make it some really good golf drama down the stretch because it really pulled into a one shot advantage for Scottie. But what I can't describe to you how difficult that 12 pole is when they put the whole location over there. This green is only about eight steps from front to back as far as shallowness goes like across the green. The greens are literally rock hard and these guys are hitting seven iron over a pond into a wind that you know is there that you're not sure if it's there. And these both of these guys get up there and hit their numbers. Just I just want to commend Colin and Scottie and their ability to play with such feel and skill at such a high level and high leverage moments. And I've been I wouldn't say critical of Colin, but more just show me like you show me that you're calling again. And that shot and all the I think even just he continues to bank more and more shots. And I'm just like, man, this guy's he's he's all the way back. That shot to me was like, okay, Colin Moore, Kyle was back and then we already know Scottie, like doing what he did was not surprising at all. It just was like, you're taking crazy pills. You're crazy. Well, I mean, kind of to your point of something you said earlier, like this was you know, close to a US open test, firm greens, you know, a lot of demanding shots. And it was it was a true test of like who are the best ball strikers in the field this week. And you know, I think it was said on the broadcast as well, Scottie and Colin are two of the best out there. You know, it was interesting. Victor Havelmann was right there until he played poorly on the weekend. But this, you know, he won here last year and it really separates the guys who are just flushing the golf ball from the guys who just aren't because you're going to get, you know, penalized forward a ton out here if you're not hitting it well. And so I thought that was a cool sort of test to see. And Colin, I feel like is we're almost he's already one major. So it's less of the, you know, clutch team question that we were asking about Zander maybe a couple weeks ago before he wins the PGA. But it's like, we're almost like reintering that territory where he's been there and every big term, basically every big tournament this year. And he's so close. And it's like, what's it going to take to get it over the hump? And I thought he putted it pretty well, you know, on, on Sunday, you know, especially in contention, made some big putts. There were a couple that he probably would have liked to have back. But it was less that it was more of like, you know, if you have the chip back at 16, you hit that a little tighter and then maybe, you know, you're in tight. Scotty thinks you're going to make a par and all of a sudden, instead of getting a read off you, he's got to make a nervy long putt to, you know, to hold lead. You know, maybe it looks a little different, you know, and that sort of finish. Yeah, I've just kind of charted in the last couple of years with Colin too. And we've, we've had periods in which Colin struggled with the putter and he's tried different grips and he's settled in with the song grip and it looks really good now. And it's carried on at the beginning part of this year, Charlie, when we you've kind of noted that as well, is that his his putter was kind of bringing along his ball striking. And then let's take it all the way back to the century, two years ago, where he has that lead on the easiest stretch of the golf course, the capaloo and and and chips and chili chunks his way and short games himself out of the golf tournament, John Rahm goes on and wins. So we we've got this couple year period of a sample size of the putter being off, the chipping kind of leading. And it's very difficult to chip cap was super, super grainy. And if you're if your motor pattern is off at all, like you're you're like, Oh gosh, how do I make good contact? And we've seen his iron game like not be elite, elite, like we've seen at the beginning part of his career and the driver, you know, he's always kind of driving, dripping it good. But with all that to say is talking with Mark Blackburn about Colin, and this was the week after Colin and Mark had split. And Mark said something very interesting about Colin. And it was that this guy's mental game is off the charts, just off the charts. And there's a reason why he's already won multiple majors. And we've we could talk about his his game and his skill all we want. But his his ability to be mentally strong. And I think we kind of just talked a little bit about, you know, Xander getting of the hop and you were just kind of referencing a little bit about how Colin it's like, what's going to be the breakthrough? I think mentally, Colin is there like Colin is that's never left him. He's about it is it's kind of like that stupid confidence that players always have, even when they're off, like they're they're never going to lose that. I don't think Colin's ever lost that he's won and stretches like in Zozo, for instance, where he hasn't been playing his bed, go best golf and goes out and win. So he's he's never lost that. And I think that's what's been the most impressive thing about him in the year that he's had and just continues to be consistent. And I think this is a great segue for you and and why you picked him at the memorial for your asterisk pick. Well, yeah, let's let's there's no further setup than these happen. We're just gonna roll a clip and then we're gonna just react together to this clip. So let's let's get right to this. This is a tough one, man. And I also like home work. I was at Piners, you know, I use them here. This is a tough one, man. And I also like home work at Piners, you know, I use them here. These one of Duns, man, they started to tricky real quick. It was all sunshine and daisy. Is it is it? This is weird. We're doing a live. We're doing a live. You can't hear it. I can I is such a if anybody's listening in the in the comments, if you can hear it. Yeah. So tell us tell us if you can hear it. I can it sounds like a mouse whispering in my ear. Okay. Well, I just turned up the volume, which you may or may not be able to see. I'm not sure how that works. We have a comment asking about Scottie's big on course weakness. But Tyler, we'll get to that. We just have to fix the audio here. Austin Fraser can hear it. So that's confirmed. There we go. That's all we need. Maybe turn your volume up a little bit. Smiley. Right. Oh, they can hear perfect. All right. Here. We're rolling it. We're doing a live. This is a tough one, man. And I also like homework. I was at. Pinehurst, you know, yeah, I use them here. These one and Duns, man. They started to get tricky real quick. It was all sunshine and daisies early on. But now we're really going to have to make some tough decisions. So I'm going to go kind of off the board here. Oh, gosh, we have got we have. What are we doing here? I'm going with. Can we do a shock? You're going with who? Scotty. Adam Scott. Oh, like, dude, Scotty. We've already picked him. I'm trying to revive the magic with another Scottie pick. You're taking Adam for a different type of Scotty. I liked everything that you're doing. And then and then just out of nowhere. What about Adam Scott right now? Do you like the memorial? I it's a good course fit. I think like he's made 14 to 15 cuts here. Last time. Five top 10s. T9 last year. Second place in 2019. Breaking in with a bit of a emergency public service announcement. What you almost just heard was a three minute discussion in which I made Adam Scott, my one and done pick for the memorial tournament, which had a lot of stats to support it. Some great rationale for why I was going so far down the board. All would have been good and fine. Just one minor problem. Adam Scott is not playing in the memorial tournament. That was a huge oversight by the guy who had just finished reading a list of all the participants in the field, including the sponsor exemptions. In my mind, I'd been so trained to assume that Adam Scott was getting sponsor exemptions into all these signature events that I just went ahead and ran with that. I'm going with call more Kawa for a ton of different reasons, some of which I mentioned on the front end of this feel like he's in great form signature event. So it's a worthwhile pick because you can get a lot of FedEx cup points for that. This is a course where he's won before. So I'm going with Colin this week, even though I also love him the following week at Pinehurst, I'm going to use Colin as my one and done pick at the memorial tournament at Muirfield Village. So we're reeling a little bit on the one and out front. This has to be rock bottom. We can only go up from here. So stick with us. We'll get you some winners. So there you have it, Smiley. I think the clip speaks for itself. At least the portions of it that you may or may not have heard with your mouse volume. But I mean, do you want me to make a statement or do you want to issue yours first? Because I feel like we've sent this off to the rules committee and they've made a ruling that is consistent with all the rules committee. You're ridiculous. You're the rules committee. We can't reveal who is on or author rules committee. That's behind closed doors. That's a very private matter. But I think it just made a consistent decision. It made a consistent decision. If you remember the Bo Hossler Windham Clark incident, that was you made a pick. It was on the record and then you went back and changed it and in a tournament erroneous in all counts. I'll tell you exactly what happened on that week. First off, I didn't even know I thought we had to pick two like once you pick one guy, you're picking both guys. And so you're kind of making up the rules as we go. And then wind up Clark with draws. And so I'm like, well, I picked wind up Clark for their team. So I feel like it was okay for me to have a backup pick, which I did. And so it's, I think that's a fair withdrawal process. Now you, on the other hand, picking Adam Scott, which is, by the way, if he would have played great pick, you know, Top 10 lock fruits out in just like how I loved here. Well, hadn't, you know, he would have topped into Bay Hill this year and I would have picked him. But my, my take here is, is that you should get half points or an asterisk on the trophy at the end of the year. We are in the year of the asterisk. Yes. Do you pronounce the S in the asterisk? I think most pronounced the asterisk. They say it asterisk. Yeah. Asterisk. Asterisk is, I, it's like a diabolical way to pronounce that word. I'm not sure why. Asterisk. Asterisk is. Yeah. I mean, you do, you do you, buddy, if you ask direct, it's like someone's name. Aster, asterisk. I mean, we, I mean, we, we need to get to have a good shot to get the right pronunciation. He's got to walk us through this. I'm willing to let, I want to let Taylor Guich adjudicate this matter as well. He wants to come in and deliver a verdict and he wants to come on the show. Let's sign him up. We could use it. All I'm saying is that, you know, my, my pick, my rifle pick, calm work, I made 400 points. Yours, unfortunately, miss the cut. I'm back in the lead. I'm back in the lead, baby. How do you miss the cut signature? Almost a no cut of it. Such a bad, bad. And I, I talked myself into it. I did. I, I picked Jordan. I said, you know what? His driver is going, it's going to lead him to the promise land this week. Oh, guess what? He was top five and driving again. I guess why we missed the cut. So, um, maybe you would say I tried to, I tried to, I tried to debunk the trend that eventually his iron game would wake up with a good driver. Wrong. Oh, but good for you for picking Colin. Half points is warranted. So, good 200 points for you. And let's go on our merry way. That is a full 400 point win. Uh, you know, it's literally a win. It's a win because we don't want to pick Scotty. None of us can pick Scotty. And this is, I think the same amount of points you get for an opposite field win 400. Pretty sure, right? Yeah. If you get 300 percent. This is a better than opposite. I loved Colin next week too. Uh, you know, so I, I kind of, you know, I hate that I burned a guy that I think I went next week, but who are we kidding? Scotty's going to win next week as well. I mean, this week, that's right. The week that we are in now. Yeah. I mean, we're, we're actually, we're live. We're, this is actually live right now. We're in the middle of the now right now. It's like, uh, it's like space balls. See from space ball. You're seeing space balls. I got another crazy movie that you're going to throw at me. Are, you know, it's space. Is this also on the, is this also on the Disney channel? Space balls is, uh, no, that's, this is like an old Mel Brooks movie, I believe. This one's more understandable. Like you, you growing up in the area, you grow up not knowing the movie Brink is, uh, borderline criminal, but space balls is more permissible. In fact, we have a guy pro. We have a comment here from, uh, Ruben Rocha, uh, which I'm going to pull up, said when you woke up today, did you tell yourself today I'm going to talk or today I'm going to skate? So Ruben, shout out to you. Uh, sole skaters for life. Uh, hashtag team pup and suds. Uh, so where, where do we go from here? Because I think we go a lot of different directions. We could, we could do a little bit more on this tournament, but we also have to note that your squad got a big, big dub in Houston this week. The tweaks are officially on the board. We could not be more back. We could not be more back. And for somebody who's been a cliques fan, their entire, entire life. Um, you know, it, it's just really good to see, uh, Samuja, I think is on our team now really play some south golf, uh, Richard Bland doing his thing like he always does. And then Martin Kimer just right in the candle from the past. Here we are, us open piners this week. And I just may have to pick the clique team captain. Just might have to put the hat on say Martin Kimer could be that dude again. I mean, I think it's a great turn back the clock opportunity for you. If a U. S open, you played in a pine hearst, you saw, I mean, I don't know how much you saw Martin Kimer in person. You didn't play the same group as him, but you were there on site for the magic. So I mean, what better way to take a little bounce off the cliques win right into, you know, the first major win, probably maybe the most improbable major win of all time. Martin Kimer got it done this week, but big one for the cliques, big, big one for the cliques. And what's really hot, what's really hot in Houston? Yeah. Well, I got, I got to say we also, we got a packet of, we have a live stats packet sent in by Sean Lori, who it's amazing. There's like, there are sections of the stat sheet that I don't even know how to properly read them. He's got like a freeloader award on here. We're gonna have to like go in depth on Sean on this sheet. But so just a little trivia, a little live trivia. Do you know which team has the most team wins and the second most team wins? And can you name the three teams that still have not won a team event on live? Okay, I'll start with the second question. The iron heads have not won an event. Correct. The Majestics have not won an event. Correct. And shoot. The last one's a little tricky, but do you want to, do you want to clue? I'm going to go with I'm gonna go with Stinger's. Stinger has won two events. Okay. It is Phil Mickelson's High Flyers still winless all time. I should have known that. What was the first question? So which team is one of the most live events all time? Aces. Four aces with seven. And do you know who's one of the second most team events all time? Crushes. Crushes with six. You're up on your live trivia, Aka Olivia. So we'll have to bring that back. We have like old time money, you know, we can maybe dig into a little bit of this spars our US Open previews. We talk about these guys, but how about that for the cliques? Big win. Yeah, Houston looked it looked high. I'd say don't, don't host the golf event in Houston in June. Just yeah, what we doing? I, I, I, we've talked to, I don't want to get down a rabbit hole with this, but I don't really know what they're trying to do with their schedule this year. Like, what are we doing going up against Memorial? I think golf fans, if, if you're trying to watch both, I know you can do that. People can get two things on a TV. I just think that why are we doing this like against non signature events? It just seems like that would be the model to me. I don't know. I think that they're trying to make sure that they have a tune up for all their guys going to the majors every week. So I think that kind of makes sense. And I guess in that context, sitting them to swampy Houston before they ship them off to swampy pine hearse is actually not a bad idea. You know, you might as well, you're going to get it soon up. Let's get it soon up. Speaking of swampy, I just, does Rambo have swamp toe? Rambo has a case of the swamp toe. It appears. I mean, this is, you don't want to take a swamp toe into a week of pine hearse. It's a bad, bad way to go. Oh, did you see him lip off after that shot on, on the tee that par three? Like it looked, looked a little serious. I don't know exactly what he's dealing with, but if it's an ingrown toenail, ooh, you came to the right place. I've had four procedures done on my big toes. I can't even they shot the chemical in my toe to where like the nail doesn't grow anymore to where I can't get them, but I used to get them all the time. So if you're somebody that has had ingrown toenails, and you try to convince your family that you're hurt, and that you can't go and that you're you're hurt not injured or injured or hurt, you're talking to the right guy because I milked ingrown toenail injuries better than anybody. Like put me on the IR, I was out. People don't know how painful it is to go to sleep and that sheet is sitting there right on that ingrown toenail and it's awful. But whenever you get a numbing shot in your toe to for them to cut out a nail, it's it's awful. Yeah, the the worst. Well, that's not mean ingrown tail on the foot. I've never had that. So I can't comment on that. But that tough scene getting the ingrown, like any of your fingernails, like the week of a golf trip, just a really, really, you got to get in there with the tweezers and kind of work it around and bandaid it up. I've had a couple of those and it is is bad. It gets really, really bad. So it's, you know, thoughts and prayers to John Rahm. He's dealing with swamp toe, maybe moving his odds around a little bit to get a little better value heading into US Open Week. So he can he can not afford a bad week this week. I'm really cut from John Rahm. Then I think you sound all the bells, even if he's hurt, I think he's got to find a way to muster up a make cut and a decent week because I think it'll just continue to put even more and more pressure and question his decision on going over there, even if he's played well over there, which he has, he just hasn't won yet. He's top 10 every single week he's played besides his missed his withdrawal this past week. The only, you know, if you're trying to play devil's advocate there, the only way that you kind of get some sort of saving grace is if you go over to trune and win because that's the one you talked about really wanting that one next, you know, having won the Masters in the US Open and you know, I think for him, you know, maybe there is, you know, to win that event obviously would be huge when any major is huge. But I'm here looking at, so I guess they have the event at Valderama the week before the Open Championship. So, you know, maybe that sets up nice for him. If you don't play well this week, I mean, of course you want to play well to speak, but if he doesn't, you go over there, you get a home game the week before the Open Championship and maybe kind of get it back on track, but agreed. I mean, he cannot go a full year with this later results in majors and expect to kind of get off the hook. It's just going to be a tough scene for him. Yeah, I think it's a huge week for him. But other than that, I mean, no, congrats to our boy car. I like I love Carlos. I think his only other win was in Houston. So on the PGA tour. So big Houston guy, apparently. Torque wearing a lot of Caroline blue. I mean, they're trying to pull me over from the wildcards and I'm going with them. I'm going with them. Let me pull up a leaderboard here while we're chatting. How did Anthony play? Well, okay. So Ron with Drew, I'm just going up the bottom of the board. He was 48th, one over the first round, four over in the second round, one under and the third round. So he tied with Cam Smith. Okay. Cam Smith watch eight over in the third round. We're going to need to keep an eye on that as we had to pine her. And he beat Danny Lee, Bubba Watson, Brandon Grace. Yeah, so so there you have it. There's your report. And I feel like the the loose ends we need to tie up here are well, we did we did have a comment from Marshall Douglas who I don't think joined us at the top of the show, but maybe just one more for the for the people who joined late on the Jordan JT Tiger Ricky practice round. You know, just how that when he's asking about the new putter for Jordan, we confirm it is not a new putter for Jordan this week. But for anyone who's checking in late, just any top line insights on Tiger, any of those guys in that group. Nothing to report. My really just this morning was Saturday crowds for a Monday morning, seven 30 practice round. Everybody looked pretty good. I mean, it's I think everybody's just trying to feel out how the golf course is going to play. The greens were super fast. And guys are just trying to figure out what to do around the greens. Salt Tiger, six ironing around JT with five irons. So just different types of shots. So yeah, I mean, nothing, nothing crazy to report. Well, there you have that. And then I feel like a few items in the way out, we got to get a sleepy hollow recap, because yeah, from what I saw on social, you're calling this one of your top courses you've ever played in your entire life. It was awesome. I actually saw Cameron Young in the airport. And him and I were kind of just talking about it for a guy that grew up there. He's a director golf. So yeah, pro or something. Just luckily we caught it on like member gas week, you know, so we're catching it in a primo state. And Adam Schefter and I played David Coon and Matt Kramer, who are two of the guys that work on the broadcast side for me on from an agency standpoint. And we had the best time. It's actually a tougher walk than you think. A really good walk. Love the design. Just love the design. It's a golf course that I could play every day. It kind of goes starts and goes way out, comes all the way back. And just beautiful part threes with some nice template holds that the famous stump print hole at 16 was awesome. And I actually tipped it out and I played really good. I shot a couple under a shot in the 60s. So that was exciting for somebody who's kind of been out of playing good golf this year. And then on Friday played the golf club in Columbus and was ready to quit the game. So I've gone from turning pro to throwing my clubs away. Actually in Charlotte, last night when I landed, I was waiting for my golf clubs to come out and I secretly was like, I hope they don't even show their face. I hope they stay back there forever. So that's where I was. And then this is actually both earlier in the day. I talked to Josh Gregory. I was like, bro, I hated like crap yesterday. Give me something. And so he's got me a little swing tip. So I got to see him. Yeah. Okay. He said my right hip was screwing me up my right side. So then I was opening up too early. So he just wants me to try to hit high drawers. Like, buddy, I can't hit high draw. He's like, you need to go try. I was like, okay, I'll go try to hit high drawers. Okay. Well, there you go. I mean, that feels like we're moving somewhere and in the direction. I mean, it's, it's all, I went out to old chatting to see John Reno again, because I had, as we report on this podcast, the briefcase of the shanks. And so I think we have a fix. I think we have a fix, but I'm playing in a old shop tournament with my dad on Father's Day. They could go very, very poorly if they're not fixed. So stay tuned. Stay tuned for more report on that. And that's about as good as place as any to wrap this thing up. I think, I mean, we really, what we should be telling you now is to get ready to tune in for the US Open preview show that we're dropping on Wednesday morning, we're recording Tuesday night at the Pine Crest Inn, a Pinehurst Institution. Very excited about that. They got a great little old school bar there. They have a great pork chop. That's like their famous thing. They serve a good pork chop there. So we'll, yeah, we'll, we'll check it out on Thursday night. But yeah, we're recording Thursday half of the Pine Crest Inn. If you're in Pinehurst, come say what's up. Love, we'd love to see you. And, and then that will drop Wednesday morning. And then, of course, like every major, we're going to have journals out after play on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, which will be coming pretty late because it will not play well, not until about 8 p.m. And you're going to be out there hoping around all day long. So that's kind of our slate. And then the following Monday will have just a show very much like this, a live stream where we're, we're kind of recapping all the action taking questions via the chat and things like that. But that's the slate for US Open Week, Smiley. Any, any other notes you want to add? Let's see. I'm just trying to get my wits about me in Pinehurst. Like, I think I need to just like drive around town because I'm kind of staying out in the boonies. And I just feel like even when I played in Pinehurst back in 2014, I stayed at a hotel. I don't think I really experienced Pinehurst. I need to go into the village. I've heard that's a thing. So I need to, I need to take it all in. So that's my only note. If you have recommendations on, on where I need to eat, that would be great. Because right now, I'm, I'm just, you big coffee guy, like you like a good like breakfast scene, right? All right, go to the, go to the pine scone cafe. There's mine, Southern Cafe, one of some pies, there's one in Pinehurst. And they have like this daily selection of all these different types of scones that are unbelievable. They have like a chocolate chip toffee scone, but they also have like savory like ham and chive scones, great coffee options. I, I'll like, I'll go to the pine scone cafe. They close mid afternoon, like I'll finish playing around in the morning of Pinehurst and go hit it up for like a coffee on the way out in a scone. It's just that good place in the electric. No, there you go. There you go for, for, for other food. I'm not sure. I have to hit people up, but coffee, breakfast, there you go. That one. So we're going to be doing on our Wednesday show full recap of, of not recap, preview, open. I'll have a ton of more information about the golf course, the tournament, the field. So I think that's the only other note is that one and done picks will be during that. Maybe build out some lineups here and there. But I think just kind of letting the tournament, you know, salivate a little bit, you know, kind of breathe and just let me, let me get, let me get the next 24, 36 hours underneath me. And I think we'll be ready for that show tomorrow night. Yeah, good. Could you use a little scone, walk the, walk the property and we'll, we'll get it together. So, uh, in any event, we really appreciate all of you joining us live to watch and, and you know, if you're a podcast listener, this will be out in a few hours, but, very much appreciate you joining us. And yeah, we'll be back here in a couple of days with a full U.S. Open preview. So we will talk to you then. Feel the pulse of the city. Feel the beat of the drum. Feel the bass? Blow your hair.
