Rorshok's weekly ten-minute update on the happenings in Argentina. Argentina’s ruling coalition, Frente de Todos, was heavily defeated, which came as a surprise for the government. The heaviest blow was losing the Buenos Aires Province, which has historically supported them, as well as Santa Cruz, the home province of Vice-President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. The current government only emerged victorious in five provinces.So what does this mean for Argentina? First and foremost, Sunday’s results are a punishment for the government, and a strong wake-up call as Argentines continue to be hit by inflation, recession and delayed vaccination. After the defeat, Argentine bonds rallied and stocks jumped the most in three weeks, while the price of the parallel-market dollar decreased to 182 pesos.
