Hi, Melissa Diele here for your one-minute health hack. And I have a question for you today. Do you use antacids? They're one of the most over-the-sold drugs, over-the-counter-sold drugs there is. And the problem is, is that we're using antacids to stop the production of stomach acid. But the problem is, is that we actually are in a stress state that is causing the heartburn in the first place. And when we're in that stress state, the body shuts down digestion because it's looking for energy to help get you to safety. When digestion is shut down, you can't break down the food that you're eating. And what's happening in that stress state is the lower esophagus sphincter gets a little bit floppy like this, and the little bit of stomach acid you do have will creep up into your esophagus, making you think you have too much stomach acid. But you don't, you really have too little, and then the antacids make it worse, and your body can't break down the food. And then that causes further digestive issues down the line. The bottle says you should only be using antacids for two weeks at a time. How long have you been using yours? And perhaps it's time to address the stress rather than the stomach acid and the antacids.
