Luke 24:13-35 "A Stranger on the Road"

What would you do if the teacher and leader you had put all your hopes on had been executed for crimes he didn't commit?
Two followers of Jesus make the decision to head out from Jerusalem on that Resurrection Day. On their way to Emmaus, they are met by a stranger who asks why they are so sad. These disciples respond by explaining the death of the man they thought was the Messiah.
Then the stranger does a wonderful thing. He opens up the Old Testament Scriptures and explains to them why things worked out the way they did. He goes to the books of Moses to explain how rescue for the people of God comes through the death of the Messiah. And he goes to the prophetic books to show how that rescue involves the forgiveness of sins.
It is after this teaching, as they are sitting down for a meal that their eyes are opened, and they find themselves sitting face to face with Jesus, who has risen from the dead!
