Hebrews 5:1-10 "The Superior High Priest"

Do we need a high priest? A better sacrifice has been given and the sacrificial system has been fulfilled, so do we still need a high priest? The author of Hebrews says, "Yes! We need a superior high priest."
Jesus is our great high priest who has a superior calling. He is called to be God's anointed King and High Priest. Like the mysterious figure Melchizedek, Jesus is called to be our Priest and King.
Jesus is our great high priest who has a superior sympathy. Aaron could deal gently with the Israelites because he could commiserate with them in his failure to resist temptation. Jesus offers the "omnipotent sympathy" that comes from resisting and defeating sin and temptation. He shows this omnipotent sympathy in the effective prayers he prays for us.
Jesus is our great high priest who offers a superior salvation. His salvation, won through His obedience to God's moral law and His obedience to God's righteous wrath, His salvation is an eternal salvation for those who obey. The call to obedience is a call to believe and repent.
