Hebrews 4:14-16 "The Sympathetic High Priest"

This sermon begins a section in the book of Hebrews that focuses on Jesus being superior to the High Priest in the line of Aaron. This section will run through chapter 10.
For the Jewish Christian of the First Century, the question of the High Priest was an important consideration. In the life of Israel, the High Priest was one of the most important and prestigious persons in their religious life. How can Christianity be a valid religious option when they don't have a High Priest.
The glorious truth is we do have a High Priest, and He is a great High Priest because he is Jesus, the truly human and truly divine High Priest who has passed through the heavens to present the true atoning sacrifice in the heavenly throne room.
He is also a sympathetic High Priest, who has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Because Jesus is the great and sympathetic High Priest, we are called to hold firmly to our faith and to confidently approach God's throne in the middle of our temptations and trials.
