This episode is sponsored by Wildwood. From Leica, the studio behind Coraline, comes a new epic fantasy adventure. And at the heart of Wildwood is a simple question. How far would you go for someone you love? Wildwood is a handcrafted epic fantasy adventure that transports audiences into a secret magical and dangerously alive world just beyond their doorstep. At its heart is the story of a courageous girl, Prue McKeel, on a desperate mission to rescue her baby brother from a forbidden forest filled with enchanted creatures, endearing allies, and formidable adversaries. Her journey unfolds in a spectacular high-stakes adventure where the fate of an entire hidden world hangs in the balance. The film features vocal performances from Carrie Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, and Angela Bassett. And I have to tell you folks, I have seen the trailer for this film so many times, and I cannot wait to park my button to seat and experience this adventure. Wildwood is now playing in theaters everywhere, so grab your tickets today. This episode was made possible by Warby Parker. Before Warby Parker, I had to do that thing that we all hate, stand in front of a wall of frames, and find the needle in the haystack. Just trying to buy glasses shouldn't require a spreadsheet, right? That's why I am obsessed with Warby Parker. Nothing else comes close on quality price selection and customer service. Once you buy from Warby Parker, you'll realize how much easier they've made the entire process. Their virtual try-on has made it possible for me to skip those eye-doctor showrooms entirely since I can literally try-on glasses from my phone before I buy them. I've tried other virtual try-ons that feel pretty janky, but with Warby Parker, you can genuinely tell how the frames are going to look and fit. Warby Parker glasses start at 95 bucks and include prescription lenses with anti-reflective scratch-resistant coatings. They use premium materials in each frame, design every frame in house, and have a collection of silhouettes, colors, and fits for every face. Me, I wear progressive lenses, which are more complicated to get just right, but Warby Parker nailed it and these glasses are absolutely amazing. They look and fit so great. Hey folks, Aaron here. Welcome to Deeper Lore, a bonus episode that's designed to be a topical guide to the most recent episode of lore. Some folks have favorites they like to revisit over and over again, others enjoy listening to certain topics. They hear a new episode on one subject and it sparks an interest in other stories on the same topic. The trouble is, with over 300 episodes to pick from, it's kind of hard to track down specific ones now. So, this little bonus episode is here to help, offering a guide to folks who want to go a bit deeper into the lore. Thus, Deeper Lore. This week, for episode 266, What's in the Box, we get to meet a very interesting individual, self-proclaimed prophetess and cult leader Joanna Southcott. This episode is wild, partly because of the things that Joanna believed about herself, and partly because of just how long her followers were willing to go along with it all. Honestly, cults and folklore pair up like peanut butter and chocolate, which is why Joanna's story isn't the first time we've covered wacky leaders and their gullible followers here on lore. So, here are three more episodes that resonate well with that particular theme. First up, episode 84 of Family Affair. At first glance, this one seems like a family drama, not a cult story, but looks can be deceiving. This spiritualism-obsessed family in Vermont drew such a following that it also brought in investigators. It's a wild story from all the wacky and weird claims they were making to the drama of getting to the bottom of it all, and I think you'll love it. Next, download episode 116, Something Blue. Some cults are more dangerous than others, and the story of Linda Hazard and her fasting cult off the coast of Seattle ranks toward the top. This is the story of a cruel woman who used fake medical care to do darker things. It's the sort of tragic story that will pair nicely with this week's Tale of Joanna Southcott, so check it out. And finally, I recommend you go listen to episode 172 under the influence. When we hear about cults, we often hear about friends or relatives who get sucked in and lose everything. And we're left wondering, how could it ever happen at all? Well, the story of Brother 12 and his utopian community is a perfect answer to that question. This one is a trip, so please give it a listen. So there you go folks, follow up this week's brand new episode with the trip into the past.
