India-based label and collective, Padmini Records are proud to announce their first offering in the form of ‘Yaar–Dost vol. 01’, a compilation of some of the country’s finest purveyors of dance music. ‘Yaar–dost’ is an age-old phrase that literally translates to ‘friends, buddies’ (or thereabouts). Padmini is built around this rather simple concept — to create a community that is truly welcoming, a consortium of ideas, and a safe space to share knowledge openly. An undulating journey through the varied landscape of India’s rave scene, the compilation is designed to be heard as an album. Beginning with the meditative musings of Hiranya, the album turns to the broken beat explorations of Oceantied, 8-Bit Culprit and Mutable Mercury, before finally building up to the hypnotic grooves of Angus 12, OX7GEN & Inspector Maal. ‘Yaar–Dost’ is an invitation to move; to see the world with the clarity that only a 4 am dancefloor epiphany can provide.
